This is a GREAT, easy to use and powerful weed trimmer by DEWALT. Nicely balanced and not too heavy even with the battery anyone should be able to use this. It’s from their Flexvolt collection and you can easily switch out the trimmer for other tools like a hedge trimmer, blower etc and it comes with a 60v lithium battery and charger. Assembly was easy and quick by removing all packing material and attaching the trimmer base to the main unit by inserting and twisting lock key(make sure to remove the small grey tube before inserting!) and attaching the line guard and handle. Let the battery fully charge(takes @30-40 mins) and start attacking those weeds and grass. It has 2 speeds-low and high and you can easily toggle between the 2 with one finger while using it. There is a safety mechanism which requires you to depress the top handle first by pushing forward a slide latch and then the second handle to start the motor. The harder you press the second handle determines the speed at which the trimmer head spins. This is a great feature for when you want to do precise edging or lighter cutting using the lower speed setting and the higher for aggressive cutting and weed/grass removal. Imho,it is very easy to maneuver and flip to get the best angle for trimming. It uses .80 feed line and has the standard bump and feed line output. It has a quick load spool that you simple line up the top and bottom white lines which aligns the 2 holes to create a tube for your new trimmer line to go thru(you can put up to 15-20 feet of line). Then pull the line thru and make them equal lengths and hold the bottom portion with the notches and turn the upper portion clockwise to turn the line onto the spool inside. You can also easily access the inner spool by depressing the 2 notches on the sides to release the spool cover. It is recommended to use only round line vs angular for problem free trimming. The overall length is @6ft and I’m not a tall dude but can easily maneuver and handle this with no problem and was able to get beautiful precise cuts and edging. There may be a little learning curve until you are comfy with it,but for me it was very short and felt like I used it for a long time. Being able to adapt with other accessories makes this a truly beneficial and useful tool in the yard and garden arsenal. Backed with the Dewalt name it will last a long time and will be used over and over again. Would make a GREAT gift for anyone or even as an unexpected new home gift that is useful.

This thing is SWEET!! I've been looking around and thinking about replacing my 2-cycle string trimmer. I came across this Dewalt Flexvolt 60-volt trimmer. This trimmer is well balanced, very quiet and works like a charm when it comes to those weed-whacking jobs. The Flexvolt Lithium-ion battery can be used in both 60-volt and 20-volt tools and uses the regular 12/20-volt Dewalt charger. The head unit can also be used for several other optional attachments such as a leaf blower, hedge trimmer, etc. that are sold separately. And no more mixing gas and oil!

The Dewalt flexvolt 60-volt max lithium-ion electric cordless attachment capable string trimmer is a great trimmer. The trimmer arrived well boxed and required minimal assembly. The trimmer is so easy to use and this cordless feature adds to the ease of trimming. The battery system is a great innovation of a 60 volt lasts long enough to complete 1 hour+ of trimming while you have the ability to use the 20 volt on other Dewalt tools. The interchangeable 20-60 volt works on a variety of tools. The line is a bump line. This is a trimmer that I highly recommend.

The Dewalt tools I use for construction are probably a little noisier than average, but they are very, very durable. Therefore, I decided to try my first Dewalt yard tool, this Dewalt Hedge Trimmer. I haven’t used a string trimmer much, but we just moved to a home with acreage. I used the string trimmer to clear a path along the fenceline up the hill to a clearing where we can sit and enjoy the view. It was the right tool for the job. I ordered this cordless one because, although my husband has an old, corded string trimmer, our 100ft extension cord was nowhere near long enough to reach the end of the path, and I didn’t want to drag out our generator. I am attaching a photograph comparing the two trimmers. The Dewalt trimmer is a lot longer and narrower than the old one even though it cuts a wider circle (17”). I am 63” tall. This trimmer is 70” long. However, it is really easy to carry. I attached the front handle so that the center of gravity is between the two handles, biased toward my left hand. Now the tool is perfectly balanced. It is very easy to hold and carry. It doesn’t feel heavy. I measured all the parts before assembling the trimmer; the total is almost 13 pounds. The extra length also keeps the cutting cable far away from my legs and ankles which I like a lot. The shield is smaller than the old one, but I think that is because the old one has a wheel on the shield for use in the vertical position as an edger (the Dewalt has a separate attachment for edging.) The small shield might create a wider spread of debris, but I didn’t care about debris while defining my walking path. The Dewalt trimmer did fling a few tiny bits of decomposed granite toward my head, but so did the old one. I always wear glasses and long pants when using a string trimmer. I also have a face shield I can use when trimming near gravel. This one easily cuts a wide swath through tall grass. Using it is quite satisfying. You need to bump the Dewalt on the ground to advance the cable occasionally; whereas, the old one is supposed to spool out the cord automatically (I am not sure how that works). Banging the trimmer on the ground might shorten the life of the cable assembly, but I expect it to last at least a few seasons because Dewalt tools are always very sturdy. Assembly is pretty simple: 4 screws to mount the handle and 2 screws for the guard, but the instructions are not very clear. They don’t mention that you have to remove three plastic parts used for shipping. The battery has a red plastic shield covering the contacts. This is pretty obvious because it is bright red and has a sticker that says REMOVE. There is also a black plastic cap covering the end of the string end of the wand that is easy to remove. However, it took me a while to figure out that you have to remove a 3” length of plastic pipe stuffed in the end of the motor assembly before you put the wand into the handle. After I pulled on the tube, it was pretty obvious. I mean, I feel kind of stupid, but that little piece of plastic pipe really looked like part of the tool. It would be better if it was brightly colored and/or had a sticker like the shipping brace on the battery. I tried to put the wand over the end of the silly little plastic tube before realizing that it is just part of the packaging. Therefore, if you are reading this, pull the pipe out of the end of the motor unit. That way you won’t have to feel stupid like me. Also, push the button to lock or unlock the battery while attaching or removing it from the charger or the tool. I am also impressed by the FlexVolt battery. It looks like there are a lot of tools in the FlexVolt family, including more attachments for the motor included with this string trimmer. I plan to order the pole saw attachment as soon as it becomes available. However, I already have a cordless hedge trimmer, and I don’t have a lawn so I won’t need the edge trimmer attachment.

OK so at the end I have the 2 small reasons I deducted a star. But the positives FAR outweigh the shortcomings. In addition to the impressive build and quality materials the string head has the newest & simplest method to load the line. Cut a piece of string, align the arrows, insert ½ the length straight through the case and twist the bump knob to get the line in. No more taking apart, losing springs, washers and patience. It’s well balanced and powerful with 2 speeds. My run time on a full charge was about 40 mins and the battery was down just 1 bar (see picture) so that was great. My last one would usually need a battery change ¾ of the way through. It was a great tool to use. I can't comment on its’ long-term durability. My 2 negatives are; (1) instructions are poorly laid out (diagrams on pgs 1&2 and instructions begin on pg 8 so you constantly need to flip back and forth) and horribly confusing, it never mentioned the cap at the end of the trimmer pole. It also did not mention whether to leave the lose piece of plastic in the end of the power pole (I discarded it). Honestly it was easier to ditch the instructions and wing it. The second “issue” (2) the handle utilizes a clap that is smooth on the inside to attach to a smooth pole so it twists/rolls slightly. Like I said, these shortcomings do not overshadow performance this cuts better than any other electric String Trimmer I’ve owned

9AH battery version
Bought this because I hate dealing gas weed eaters. Draining gas during off season. Just wanted to be able to slap on the battery and go. This does the trick! First time I used it for about 45 min and the battery still shows full. Has plenty of power to chop up thick grass. I actually use it to chop up a bunch of wild bushes that were coming up next to my house. As in the amount of time it will truly run on a single charge I'm not sure but it will do all I need for sure! Once again I bought the one with the 9ah battery DCST970X1S. The string that came with it did hang a few times and I had to take it apart to fix it. I'm assuming it's because the string has been in it since they built it. Mine has the easy wind up string that you just feed in one side and out the other and twist. I like that feature. It does have a little weight to it with the monster battery on it but it's no heavier than the gas inches I've owned. I just need to find me a Dewalt strap for it and I'll be good for much longer.

    Terrible Quality Assurance!
I've been waiting for a Dewalt cordless lawn tool that was universal-attachment ready. So when I saw this was available in the store I bought it right away. I was highly disappointed when I went to assemble it. I found multiple problems with this item. For one, there is no hole to attach the string trimmer to the main power head! Someone forgot to drill a hole there, and somehow it made it past QA! Second, there was plenty of RUST inside the trimmer head shaft! Now I’m not a Dewalt engineer, but I’m pretty sure RUST isn’t the lubricant they originally chose for this tool. This has been a very frustrating day for me as a heavily-invested Dewalt customer. In addition to this, I had to return the just-purchased 2x20v Brushless Push Lawn Mower because of missing parts! I was hoping to spend my day trying out all this new equipment but I was too busy returning it and discovering problem after problem! Come on Dewalt! Where is your QA department???

        Flexvolt
I love this Dewalt flexvolt cordless string trimmer. The trimmer is easy to carry and the rechargeable battery last a long time. The trimmer seems to be of good quality and it seems pretty quiet while running it. The color is vibrant and just simply a great tool for the yard!

Great tool. Lightweight and easy to maneuver. For a battery operated trimmer it has plenty of power for your standard at-hole trimming. Already have a few 20v Dewalt tools, so I purchased this trimmer to replace a corded Black & Decker trimmer whose motor gave out.

          Poor QA for dewalt
Im a big fan of dewalt tools, so when i saw an electric weedeater whose battery is swappable with my other tools i was excited. Well i should have just bought a regular 4-cycle weedeater. About a year after buying and only using 1-2 times a month during 1 and 1/3 mowing seasons it stopped working. Checked the battery it was fine. Opened the sucker up and a wire was melted and apparently exploded because there was black soot everywhere. I will not be buying another electric weedeater anytime soon and i guess i wont be buying anymore new dewalt tools for a while either.

            Quality buy!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a trimmer for some time, but I’ve always used fuel powered trimmers and was hesitant to buy this one. After extensive research I decided to make the purchase and this trimmer exceeded my expectations. It has the power of a commercial trimmer. It’s lightweight, balanced, has a low/high setting for regulating the power output and conserving battery life and paired with a .095 line can cut through anything in its path. Battery operated tools are always a hassle when the battery dies mid project, but it had two bars of battery life even after I was finished. The one downside to this product is the small guard, as it does not provide enough protection. But after all it offers, the good outweighs that minor detail.

I have several Dewalt tools and decided my old corded hedge trimmer was just not convenient, so I took advantage of the batteries I have by purchasing the Dewalt 22in cordless hedge trimmer. The blades are sharp and able to cut moderately sized branches, and the length makes reaching across easier for cutting a nice flush top cut. The trimmer feels sturdy, has a little weight to it, but not too heavy to wield above and below the bushes.

              Horrible Head-Design; Otherwise Outstanding Tool!
I make sure that I do not write reviews until I have used a product for a good while. I bought this 10 months ago, used it several times a week for an average of a couple hours at a time, for several weeks (until county weed abatement requirements were met). I am a pretty loyal DeWalt tool owner for about 20 years. They are my preference. I have about a dozen tools using the 20V/60 system. The GOOD... This trimmer definitely has power that rivals gas trimmers. The battery life is not amazing, but what one would expect for the work that it has been doing. Having to swap batteries forces me to take a break. It is well balanced, well-designed, comfortable, and rugged. I like that housing on the battery-end has what is essential a built-in hook to hang it vertically. As far as quality, overall design, feel, cost and power, the tool is fantastic! The BAD... I'm pretty smart, but simple arrows molded onto the head would be nice to remind me of which way to wind it. (Because, this head can spin both ways). I agree with another reviewer that removing the battery takes some brute force at times. Sometimes I have to smack it quite firmly with the heel of my hand, and even that doesn't work sometimes. Sometimes I have to knock it against a stump, tree branch/trunk, 2x4, etc. The well-intentioned (and otherwise well-designed) guard around the battery hinders this process. I can overlook this, but can understand why this would be unacceptable to others, though. The UGLY... Where the product was demoted from 5 stars is that the head pretty much seized-up at the end of last season. I figured I would get to it later, now it's spring and it's that time. I am certainly an advanced DIYer (professional aircraft mechanic and wind turbine technician). So I tried to remove the head... nope! Not happening! Not without breaking something! I can barely wind string, and can't replace the head. So, I download the PDF manual to make sure that I'm not missing something. Problem is the manual for the tool shows a completely different head than what I have! Are you kidding me?!?! I admit that I am biased towards thinking positively of DeWalt tools, but this one did not measure-up. I buy them because they LAST, this one didn't handle 1 month. Nothing's broken (that I know of), it's just seized from dirt/dust. Again, are you kidding me?! It's a trimmer! I so badly WANT to recommend this tool, but I can't, because if I can't wind the string, then it's useless!

Love it. I don't use a blower enough to warrant keeping the carb cleaned on a gas unit during the off season...I have found myself using this 60v unit by far more than I ever did with the gas blower and it's about the same strength if not a little stronger. Absolute "breeze" to use!

I purchased this blower in December 2017. It worked great for about two weeks and then completely died. The batter was fully charged but the electric motor wouldn't turn over. I returned it to Home Depot and they gave me a full refund, which was most appreciated. I've ordered another one and it should be delivered this week. Hopefully it will meet my expectations. My question to Dewalt is how long should this blower operate on a fully charged battery running wide open? My returned Dewalt blower ran for about 15 minutes, however, I see where others are getting as much as 45 minutes on a single charge while running wide open. I think most consumers would appreciate an honest answer. As you can see in the attached photos of me repairing my deck, I'm an avid fan of Dewalt, however, this particular product needs major improvements.

                  Line Problems
Only had a chance to use trimmer once. Good weight - plenty of power. Line Broke Constantly. The trimmer head and Wire feed opening are out front so it's easy to bumb into objects which seem to shear the line off - then the line sucks into the spool housing. The idea behind the spool design seems ok - but in my unit the spool binds inside the housing and is VERY difficult to remove. This makes replacing or untangling the line VERY VERY difficult - and frustrating. Loading the line - insert the line into the retaining hole - which is the opposite direction of winding, so you flip the line over and wind one section. Then while keeping this line from unwinding - you do the same thing on the second level. This is not an easy process. Other models allow the line to pass through the head leaving even distance on both sides, then you just wind the line in - both sides at the same time. I spend more time untangling or rewinding the spool than cutting. Trying to contact Dewalt for replacement spool that chipped on the inside. Will see how it goes.

                    dewalt 20v hedge trimmer
Debating wether i should get the package with 5h battery or not, i do have two 4h battery, i decide to give a try with 4h. First the timmer is very light, razor sharp. Now about battey, those 4h did very well, last quite a while before change to next battery, only use the Echo gas trimmer to larger branch which is about 15lbs, very tiring if you have to work for a while, just like any other products 20v, Dewalt did a great job for weight, power and convenience, highly recommend, this is one to own if you only want to get one!

Needing to upgrade my hedge trimmer to one capable of cutting larger branches I saw that there were several choices but already owning several 20V 5 amp DeWalt batteries pushed me towards this tool. The 20 V platform is very powerful. Obviously it runs quiet and even with the 5 amp battery it's pretty lightweight and nimble to handle when you're shaping shrubs. I have quite a few shrubs around my house and was able to do them all with one battery. The blades are very sharp and overall the performance exceeded my expectations and there were no disappointments.
