This drill bit is 18 inches long and the cutting point drills through wood very quickly. The shank has three flats ground into it so the drill chuck clamps tightly onto the bit without slipping. The half-inch diameter hole is perfect for running Romex wiring through. I used a small cordless drill to run the drill bit with and it functioned perfectly. I did not need to use a large, heavy drill to do the job. I drilled over a dozen holes in just a few minutes. The bit showed absolutely no sign of wear or damage to the sharpened surfaces. I expect that this bit will be around for many projects to come.

Recently had to drill and fish a low voltage power cable for my new door bell camera. As a retired AT&T tech I am experienced with doing this sort of work. Well my old bit I had used for years finally broke. So I was in need of a new bit to use for this type of work. This bit was better than the one I had. Fits really nicely in my cordless drill. Is very sharp and made quick work going through a 2/4. I am planning to installing a new electric outlet in my garage and this will be perfect for drilling holes through the studs.

Pretty straight forward product here. Met all the requirements. Plenty long to reach and bore thru long runs. Nice that the shank is narrower than the fluted section to allow for a slight changes in direction. Do recommend backing it out frequently while using in order to reduce heat on the bit. Like the sleeve to store it in so that it doesn’t prematurely dull.

The Diablo Installer Drill Bit is a much better alternative to the standard bore bits. Given its length you can drill multiple holes through studs or stringers. The holes are drilled quicker and cleaner which limits the amount of saw dust. The Drill Bit is heavy duty with a flat edge to insure it does not slip or rotate while in your drill. The holes are true to the measurement stated on the packaging.

I was looking for a long length 1/2" drill bit for several projects I had planned, I have used diablo bits and blades in the past and always really liked them. This bit is right on par with the other great products I use of theirs. Nice sharp point so the bit doesn't wonder around when starting a new hole. This bit is fast, bores right through framing material without a problem in my 1/2" drill. The end of the bit that goes in the drill chuck has 3 flat sides that prevent any spinning within the drill chuck. The 1/2" diameter is great for 14/2 wire and I'm sure 12g wire would not be a problem. I also used the bit to drill some holes through wet railroad ties in order to stake them into the ground with rebar. I was able to drill multiple 6x6s in one shot, that really speeds up these projects. Minor wood tear out when drilling fast, but this is a rough/speed bit, so that is to be expected. Very happy with all my diablo products including this long bit.

DIABLO 1/2 in. x 18 in. Installer Drill Bit has proven to be a durable bit. This bit is long enough to penetrate a band board on a house to go all the way through an exterior wall for wiring and bolts or anything needing a half inch hole. The bit has an aggressive very sharp, hardened point that eats wood. I hit a couple of nails and it hardly dinged the sharp tip. Easily reaches from stud to stud. The end is flat so it won't slip in the drill check.

This was a little overkill for my project. I was looking to drill straight through the joists to install cabling but it was longer than I expected. I could see how this would be incredibly handy for running cable from outside of your home and drilling through the wall. The drill dug in nicely. The strength and durability of this bit was surprising.

I got the diablo 1/2" installers drill bit to dill a hole through the wall of my garage to run some electric wire for a security light. Really like the 3 flats on the drill end of the shank to stop any chance of slippage if you happen to hit a stud. It also has a hole in the flutes so you can put a wire like the center wire of cable wire and then pull it back through the hole.

I don’t have an active project going on presently whereas I need my new Diablo 1/2” x 18” Installer Drill Bit, but I know it will do the job. The last drill bit like this that I had provided me with many years of use up until it got jammed up in a framed wall that had an unforeseen metal plate hidden within in it, thus the drill bit snapped. I use this type and size drill bit for drilling through wall studs for electrical runs, security system wires and cable runs. It’s great for drilling up into attics or down into basement space where the standard length drill bits just can’t reach. I expect that I will get many years of excellent use from my new purchase.

This bit is ideal if your looking to run a small wire through several layers of wood. I needed to run the power cord for my driveway camera through my garage wall (as you can see how much depth I need from the pictures). The area I had to go through had a 2x4 stud wall followed by a header which was 2 - 2x8 planks. So a bit this long was needed and worked perfectly! The shank end has 3 grooves to prolong the life of the bit and drill chuck. I also like the case it came in which is reusable by simply unscrewing the 2 tubes together or apart. I also have Diablo reciprocating saw blades that I used for my basement remodel so I’m very familiar with the quality of this brand. Very solid product!

I used the drill bit to drill holes for rebar in railroad ties. It did the job, but seemed to get dull after 20 holes, even though I was pretty careful to not overheat the bit. It worked better than a jobber length spade bit, which I also have. I'm glad I bought it.
