Saw these in the village of bargain bins at HD and having installed a Defiant electronic deadbolt a few months back, I decided to pick this reduced price set. For my installation I had to bore a hole for the lock and latch, and while a paper template is included, I would recommend buying lockset drilling kit. The kit takes the guess work out of the boring and lets you focus on the lock installation. The included instructions are detailed and cover both boring and precut doors. The only tricky part is making the electrical connection. The first time it was a pain, but this time I knew not to twist the connector and make sure the side with the red marking faced outward. The keypad seems to have a small target area which you have to press exactly in order for the system to register your entry. The kit includes all the hardware for installation, although I would have preferred longer screws to secure the catch latch. You'll need to provide 4- AA batteries as they are not included. For boring you'll need a drill, otherwise stick to a manual screw driver as using a power tool, especially impact, can lead to cross thread. Some painter's tape can be used to hold the outside panel in place while attaching the backplate. Will this lock stop a determined person, probably not, but it will discourage most. I like the ability to use a code instead of a key and to be able to assign codes to visitors. Changing codes is fairly easy and step by step instructions are included. Two keys are included to bypass the keypad. An LED light lets you know if there is an error, if batteries are low or everything is correct. Overall happy I got this lock, and would have gotten it even if it wasn't on sale.

The DEFIANT CASTLE SATIN NICKEL NEO TOUCH ELECTRONIC SINGLE CYLINDER DEADBOLT is a great security option to all properties. The advantage is no keys to find or rattle around. This lock is stylish and has a great finish that contributed to the overall appearance of the door. The electronic lighting system is a great feature allowing for glow in the dark function.

This is the second Defiant keyless we have installed. Because it’s keyless, you don’t have to remember your keys every time you lock up. (however, it does come with 2 keys in case the batteries run out) We were lucky because it fit in place of our old keyed deadbolt place. Since the cylinder is longer than our other deadbolts, the depth of the door jamb hole was too shallow, so we had to do a little adjusting. Other than that, the installation and programming was straightforward. I had a little trouble connecting the 2 wires because it was close quarters and the wires wanted to go backwards. If this is a new installation, it has the templates you need. The lock needs 4 AA alkaline batteries that are not included. This lock is great on inside or outside doors that are 1 3/8in to 1 ¾in thick. The keys that come with it can be re-keyed to match a KW1 key that you might already have. You can set 1 master code and 10 user codes. The user codes can be turned off with vacation mode. The number pad is LED Backlit so you can see what you are doing in the dark and it has a low battery indicator. The keys are flat on this one. My other one has raised keys. I haven’t decided which one I like the most. This Aged Bronze looks classy. Next, I will have to get door hardware to match. Having these locks will encourage us to lock up more often because we won’t have to fumble around with keys. This one is priced reasonably compared to some but more expensive than my other Defiant lock. I hope that it will last a long time. It is rated ANSI/BHMA grade 3 security. It is backed by a 1-year warranty. I haven’t checked to see what the more expensive lock warranty length is. Overall, we are pretty pleased with this so far. We have only had them installed for 2 weeks so time will tell.

This is a good quality electronic deadbolt lock. I have installed a few of these electronic deadbolts in the last few years and this one was very easy to install. Took me about ten minutes to remove the old one and install this one. You will need to purchase four AA batteries which are not included. Programming takes about ten minutes as well. Overall very nice, I hope it will hold up being exposed to the weather.

Wanted a touchpad deadbolt for my side garage door to my shop so I could get in easily without using a key. The installation was quite simple and took less than an hour. The deadbolt fit the existing cut outs well but did need to trim the opening at the female side of the jamb slightly to work properly. The Defiant touchpad looks great and has a smooth flat face so don't worry about the buttons getting stuck in the recesses or water getting inside, which is nice. Programming the deadbolt to accept a new code perplexed me a bit but got it to work after a few tries. The deadbolt takes 4 - AA batteries and does not come with them so be prepared to pick some up before installing. Lastly, the deadbolt comes with 2 standard keys should the batteries run dry or prefer the old fashion keyed deadbolt.

This new dead bolt is a godsend for someone like me, I don't know how many times I have forgotten to pull my keys out of one pair of pants and transfer them to the ones I am wearing. With this type of lock all you need is a simple short pin number that you pick (4 to 6 digits). No more lockouts! This lock can store up to 10 codes, that can be programmed and deleted quickly. This makes the lock convenient for others to use like, UPS or anyone else that you want to grant access to that door, then you can delete the code if you only want to give one time access. Everything needed is included in the box for either a new or existing install except for 4 AA batteries. If you are replacing a existing dead bolt, the upgrade is quick and easy. Remove the old dead bolt install the new one in the same hole without any modifications. This deadbolt can be installed in either 2 3/8” or 2 3/4” setbacks by rotating the deadbolt 180 degrees. On a DYI scale, anyone that can use a screwdriver should be able to install this in less than one hour in a pre-drilled door, as most doors produced are. I connected the wires from the keypad to the deadbolt so I could set the codes on the bench. This made it easy to set everything up and familiarize myself with the operation of the deadbolt. Everything is easier to do when your sitting in a comfortable spot. The only little drawback is, when wearing wintertime gloves the buttons on the keypad can be a little hard to push. For the price and convenience this lock is a must have. No more lockouts or forgotten keys. Highly recommend!

Keyless with a key option is convenient. The Defiant Castle Aged Bronze Electronic Touchpad Single Cylinder Deadbolt was installed to replace another keyless deadbolt that cracked from the heat. The Defiant deadbolt seems like it will last longer than three years. The numbers are easy to read and the script is nice. The Aged Bronze is lovely and fits my exterior well. Instructions were easy to follow, but programming the codes was not seamless. The lights and beeps were confusing, but you keep programming and it works.

Picked this Defiant Castle Satin Nickel Neo Touch Electronic Single Cylinder Deadbolt to go on my garage entry door. It also allows me to keep a house key in the garage it case something happens to my keys or they get locked in the house. Keyless entry technology brings peace of mind without the worry of losing keys. User-friendly features include ease of installation, simple operation and customizable programming. Seems to be as good a quality as kwikset or schlage.

The installation into my existing door was relatively simple. The instructions did offer tips for items I certainly would have questioned. I appreciated that. Plugging in the front keypad to the back battery unit took a little patience on my part - it was a small area to work. But the wire tuck-in location was big enough for me to easily tuck in the wire without any frustration! I did have issues changing the master code. I'm not sure how I messed it up but the factory reset is simple enough to allow me to start over. There are lots of options on this deadbolt keypad. I can add "permanent" user codes that will only go away if I reset the keypad or issue the codes to delete. I can set single use codes. You can set vacation mode where only the master code works while the other codes await idly until vacation mode is turned off. You can turn off the beeper, set auto lock and timed auto lock (10-99 seconds after unlocking, deadbolt will relock.) Access to the battery area and the SET button is simple -- just pull off the cap. The deadbolt also comes with 2 keys. I'm guessing that if the batteries unexpected die on you, you want to have one of these keys on you. I wish that there was a way to modify the lock to work with the key that this lock replaced. That way I could use the same key for all the doors on my home, which were already matched and for which I already have several copies. It's important to note that the movement of the deadbolt is by the batteries power when successfully entering a valid code. There is no dial you have to turn from outside. You can lock the deadbolt simply by pressing the Lock symbol on the keypad.. From inside, you have a dial that you can turn to lock and unlock. I didn't check to see if the instructions to manage the keypad coding is online. I would recommend that you keep the instructions with the value of your master code written on them in a safe place where you'll remember to find them in the future.

This Defiant electric combination lock fits well with the deadbolt system that was already on my door. It was easy to install and set up with my personal number. It works as advertised. It is run by batteries but also includes keys just in case your batteries run low. I like the fact that I can choose who has my keypad code or provide a key that I can give out and get back without having to change my keypad code. It has a nice design and adds a high tech secured look to your door. I am going to order more to put on all my entry doors. Great product.

With a lot of kids in our family, I love the idea of an electronic lock with a code. It eliminates the need to give them each a house key and risk the possibility of them losing the key or not having it on them when they need it. I love that this lock can have several codes programmed in. We easily allowed each of our kids to pick their own code so it's simple and easy to remember. We even put on a babysitter code for guests to use, so that it can be easily changed for safety and security. The lock was simple to install and only requires 4 AA batteries to work. They are not included, so be sure to have them on hand. The lock auto locks after about a minute. So be prepared to keep the door propped if you're running out to get the mail or just key your code back in. The lock is a little slow to respond once the code is correctly entered, but doesn't take too long. I wish the lock came with the ability to be keyed to any key so we could maintain consistency across all the keys in our house. The sound of the lock engaging is a little loud and comes with a beep. I haven't found a way to turn this off and it is a little jarring. Overall, it's a great option for our family.

The instructions were daunting at first since it is still a single 2-sided piece of 14.5" x 20.5" paper with small font. The front contains the installation and the back contains the programming and troubleshooting sections. There is a template to drill a hole through the door face for the deadbolt latch, but no template for the deadbolt that installs through the side edge of the door. The instructions tell you to use the strike plate as the template. Cutting away the template to use destroys part of the instructions. Fortunately, my door already had a deadbolt installed, so installation of this one was very straightforward. If you can remove it yourself, then you can install this yourself too. Just be aware of the routing of the keypad-side cable through the door hole. The cable must also pass through the door plate on the inside. This all installs like a typical deadbolt. The only additional step is to plug the cable into the battery compartment/latch piece and then screw it to the door plate. All hardware is included, but the screws that hold the deadbolt to the door and the strike plate to the door frame are too small and strip easily because of the thread pitch, which cost a star lower rating I would recommend buying longer (at least 2 inch) screws for both parts, or maybe including them? Also, you really need to ensure that the deadbolt has plenty of clearance or it WILL jam. If your door is not well aligned, you will have issues using this. The programming is straightforward. Once you press the red 'setup' button, you have a limited amount of time to press your program codes, so be sure you are ready and understand what you are programming. I like the ability to add multiple users. I see this effective for temporary access, like for an AirBNB setup or for a service-person to use. Also, the keypad lights up in blue and is bright enough to be used in direct sunlight. The one big drawback with a touchpad is that you must 'unlock' the keypad by pressing a 4-digit pattern before being allowed to type in your code. I guess they needed to do this to ensure someone is deliberately trying to open the door, but it seems cumbersome. The only benefit I see is that it would make it necessary to press several areas of the keypad so a stranger cannot just look at the fingerprints left from using the same keypad press areas and guess your code. I have also experienced a major irritant with the deadbolt actuating if I accidently contact the touchpad while closing the door. When this happens, the bolt will extend and slam against the door jamb, which at worst, will damage the jam, or at least causing you to reenter the code to withdraw the bolt, after you pass thru the door. Overall, this would be a nice product. It seems very well built and has a nice heft to it. The instructions could be written in a book form, so it isn't so overwhelming to use, and use a larger font for better legibility. I would have liked to see longer screws with a coarse thread pitch for better security. Also, batteries are NOT included, and you will need 4 AA batteries to make this work. I like a touchpad better than buttons since there are no buttons that wear out. The extra pattern that must be typed in is a fair tradeoff for safety. I would give this 4-stars for overall functionality, but you MUST get the alignment right and the lack of a template for the door frame may make this more difficult to install. I’m not sure what can be done about the accidental bolt activation issue, but these issues will need to be fixed by the manufacturer. Too many faults prevent me from recommending this product.

The deadbolt was pretty easy to install and it didn't take long to install either! I love how it looks and on top of that, it works so well! I have used many electric locks like these in the past and I think this is the best one yet! It is easy to program and has no glitches. I like the fact that it is touchscreen and not buttons as well so it looks cleaner. I also really like that it will automatically lock in 10-99 seconds, which is your choice. Very high tech and works like a charm.

This touch keypad door lock by defiant is easy to assemble and install, nice to look at, and works great. It took me about 15 minutes to remove my old deadbolt and put this new one in place. Another five minutes to program it with my code and codes for my two children. I look forward to many years use out of this deadbolt. My only complaint is that The deadbolt cannot be keyed to the locks I have in my home. According to Home Depot defiant uses a proprietary key bank.

I really like this deadbolt keypad. I like that the keys are not raised as I feel like other deadbolts that have the raised rubber buttons, like on an old school TV remote control, will wear out much more quickly and attract more dirt in the crevices. Installation was fairly easy. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because there is one point of confusion on the installation. It tells you to install the indoors side panel with the deadbolt knob in the vertical position. But when you do that it only allows you to turn the deabolt about a quarter of an inch, not nearly enough to engage the bolt fully. The trick is to not test turning it until you have installed everything and set the code on the keypad. Once this is done the unit automatically calibrates itself and allows a full turn. I wish that would have been in the manual as it slowed me down trying to trouble shoot.

I have been updating the locks at my home and decided to obtain the Defiant Castle Aged Bronze Electronic Touchpad Single Cylinder Deadbolt. The Aged Bronze finish is very attractive and it comes with a lighted backscreen. It comes with two keys, and the ability to program 10 different codes from 4-6 digits. It also has a master code which is set from the factory at “123456.” Obviously, this master code needs to be changed immediately upon installation. After using the Deviant Electronic Touchpad Deadbolt for a few weeks, I have been quite impressed with the performance and ease of use. The installation instructions are very well written with lot of graphics and step-by-step guides. Programming the codes is also very easy. The Defiant Touchpad Deadbolt is a quality product and a great value!

Functionality is good on this electronic dead bolt, and it looks great too. Perfectly matches my Kwikset knob. Features I love: Easy installation. Ability to set as many codes as you want (set each kid thier own code individually so they never forget). Ease of use. The install as I said was easy, I installed it with the door off the hinges, because I was painting it first. Make sure to follow the instructions, yes, the wire has to go UNDER the middle cylinder. I also did not tighten down the screws enough the first time, and ended up taking it apart to tighten everything because it was moving around too much. Setting multiple codes is simple, you just need to know the master code, and I don't think there is a maximum number of stored codes. Lock the door at the push of a button without the code, use the code to unlock. It's not an instant unlock, the motor has to turn the deadbolt, but you can hear when it is done and ready to open. It's also keyed, so if the batteries die, you aren't out of luck. I rekeyed my door knob to have the same key as the deadbolt, since it was a compatible key with the Kwikset smart key. Good value for the price!

Just got the defiant castle electronic lock installed. The lock installed pretty easily- as long as you have existing holes in your door. There are also templates included if you needed to cut a hole for the deadbolt but I wouldn't trust myself doing that. The programming of new codes is quite easy, the cover is removable with no hardware needed- and actually has the instructions for code changes printed inside of the cover. If you were to have different people coming or going and say for security reasons needed to clear all the codes- its also quite easy to do with a few pushes of the buttons. It takes 4 AA batteries which are a easy replacement. After my new lock was installed and new codes set up -when I tried it out I got a clicking/grinding sound from the lock during opening/closing.. after a few tries - it seems to have loosened and was functioning good. But then the next day the lock got jammed during opening and made the grinding noise again. A little aggravated- I took it apart and checked everything was lined up correctly - you kinda cant mess it up since it all fits together. As of now it seems to be working good. I will update if it gets jammed again.

This is a good keyless entry deadbolt. It only took about 15 minutes to install by yourself. If you have a second person to hold the deadbolt while screwing the back on the door will help but not necessary. You don't have to drill any special holes to make it work unless it is a new door but you get a template on where to drill the hole. The mechanism is smooth when operating the deadbolt. It comes with directions in english and spanish. You can have the deadbolt rekeyed to the key you use for the door knob. It is a little tricky when programming the lock but after you get a handle on it it goes fast. If you have any questions call customer service at 1 (877) 663-5625. They walked me through the initial programming and only took 5 minutes and I was up and running. You can have 10 preset codes for each person in your home and if for any reason you don't want that code to be used anymore you can delete with ease. One of the features I like about this deadbolt is that if you want to lock the deadbolt when leaving the house you just have to push 1 button and it locks. You don't need to use the key to lock it from the outside. If at night you need to open the deadbolt when you push a number on the keyboard it lights up and goes off immediately when opened. Another nice thing is you can also program the deadbolt like vacation mode and automatic locking so if you always keep the deadbolt on you can have it automatically lock after you open the door. This is from the outside. I'm not sure if it is for when you leave and come back home but it is a nice feature.

I have to admit that I was a little hesitant about being able to install the Defiant Castle Satin Nickel Neo Touch Electronic Single Cylinder Deadbolt. I have replaced several regular door locks. But never a keypad door lock. I am here to say that all that worrying was for nothing. Replacing my old deadbolt lock was a piece of cake. All the parts are clearly marked with, "this side to door" or This end up". The only thing different was having to plug in the wires and installing the four AA batteries. The keypad is back-lit for night time use. And programming was very simple and spelled out in the easy to follow instructions. My wife was impressed with the simple function ability of this lock. I do recommend this product.

I love my Defiant Castle Aged Bronze Electronic Touchpad Single Cylinder Deadbolt. I was able to remove my old deadbolt and install in less than 1 hour. The buttons are super bright at night which makes for easy entrance. Lines up perfectly with most all precut door locks. The looks is not modern more rustic. Make sure it matches your style or it will stick out. Overall good electronic deadbolt.

This lock will not work. Do not buy one.. I tried putting this thing on for half a day and I never could get it to work properly. I ended up putting my old one back on and using it.

Lock lasted maybe 3 months before needing to change the batteries every 3-4 days
