You can see how durable and well-built this product is. It definitely helps to have a reversible gym so you don’t have to worry if you know what where are your door swings. It will go to either side.

If your door has been broken in and the jamb (frame) damaged, this is a good product to repair it – or if not broken (yet), to strengthen it. The principle is that the replacement jamb, that your door closes against, is replaced by a new one that incorporates metal plates behind where the lock striker plates mount. So, the striker plate attachment is reinforced to resist impacts to the door. It is designed to accommodate 2 striker plates spaced 5.5” to 6.1” apart. The door frame section is well made and finished and appears that it would significantly strengthen a door against forced entry. Normally the only things that resist a door being forced open are the screws attaching the lock striker plate(s) to the wooden door frame. But with this product those striker plates are bolted to corresponding plates screwed to the rear of the wooden jamb, so a lot more force would be needed to break the door frame wood. But before you buy it, check the dimensions of your existing door jamb to make sure it will fit. In my case I was out of luck. The replacement jamb is 4.6” overall, with the strip behind where the door closes 2.47” wide. My door outside door frame jambs were both 6.1” overall with the strip behind the door 3.95”. So, it was too narrow. Also, if your door frame is varnished, this product is not suitable as it is white. While it can be painted, it isn’t suitable for staining. Installation is non-trivial, as the existing door jamb must be removed to be replaced, which in turn requires removal of the trim around it. But there are some helpful YouTube videos on how to do this. And note that the replacement jamb is reversible (it can be used for left- or right-opening doors), has pre-mounted weatherstrip, and can be cut to length.

I got this to enhance the security of my garage's rear door for a project I have lined up next spring. This does take some carpentry skills. All door trim and the existing jam needs to be removed. Then line up the new jamb's reinforced strike plates with the latches and bolts on the door. Then replace the trim, caulk and touch up the area with paint. The jamb comes with a good weather strip seal already installed on it so the door fits tight and make it more secure. Good product, a lot of work but it is worth installing.

I got this item to strengthen by door jams as they were getting old and worn. I used on the door going into my house from the garage and they worked very good. The instructions were step by step and really helped. The wood jam is very well made fit well and you can cut to size as I did need to take some off. The metal jam is quite strong and improved the tightness and security of my door. It does take a little more work as you need to remove the old frame and drill holes for you door jams. Everything is adjustable so you can easlity fit to your needs.

After a tedious time getting everything installed, I replaced the trim but now I need to caulk and touch up the area with paint. The jamb comes with a good weather strip seal already installed on it so the door fits tight and when I try to move the door when it is closed I can feel that it is more secure. Good product but a lot of work installing.

This security jam leg is the perfect way to quickly add more security to your entry ways for new construction but can also be used to upgrade your existing door ways, with a little more work. I like that the thick metal plates are mounted behind the jam for a cleaner more finished look.Once mounted there's not much more to do other as it comes complete with a white finish and a quality door gasket. Plates can be adjusted as needed and jam can be used with either left or right opening doors.

The instructions that come with the jam are limited and are the same as the ones on the HD website. There is a link on the instruction sheet for “more detailed instructions” but the link goes nowhere. There is also a QR code on the instruction sheet that leads to a website, but neither the detailed instructions nor installation video come up. The faceplates can accommodate door that have between 5-1/4” to 6-1/4” center-to-center between the latch and dead bolt. Anyhow, this jam is a pleasant surprise as I did not know it existed. It is exactly what I needed to replace the jam on a brand-new door on our cabin. That new door—with three dead bolt locks—was the victim of a break-in a week after I installed it. See photos of the splintered jam and my temporary repairs. The wooden jam comes primed but blank so it will be necessary to drill holes for the deadbolt and latch and mortise the visible latch plates. The face plates and U-bar will be concealed behind the jam. It will also be necessary to re-rabbet the jam to receive the head. I pulled the old door out, disassembled the old jam, cut the replacement jam to match the old jam, painted the areas of raw wood and screwed it to the top jam and threshold in 15 minutes. Including removal and reinstallation of the door and frame, the whole process took and hour. I did install a single new ANSI 1 dead bolt. Also, I recommend that additional and longer screws be installed through three holes in the bar on both sides of the face plates instead of the short screws provided that only go into the jam. Pilot holes should be drilled through the jam from the back side before reinstallation. It occurred to me that if you have a new door, it would be simple to install the EverStrike hardware on it if it was available separately. (I could not find just the hardware.) You would need to route a 7/8” wide by ¼” deep groove in the back of the lock side jam for the U-bar. It would not need to be the full length of the jam, just long enough for the bar. The product is made in China.

You can also select this jamb for an upgrade when the door needs repairs. All installation hardware is included and the jamb is reversible to install on either side of the door. It comes primed, ready to paint. It looks great and replacing an old jamb with this one is definitely an upgrade. Nice.

Let's start off with this is an advanced DIY project , Not as simple as installing a strike plate . The product is of good materials and could work for various applications. The wood is pre primed the hardware is ample for installation of the strike plates but you will need to provide mounting materials for the jamb itself. Be aware you need to remove your old strike plate jam ! This itself if the biggest part of the job. I'm also not too keen on the finished results as the plates are very industrial looking with exposed screws. All in all a good kit if this is what you're looking for and should provide a solid secure Frame when done.

I love the reinforced strike plates. If you live in an area, where doors get kicked in, and already have a good solid door, this is a great cheap solution to prevent it from happening again. Before I start a project, I read the instructions. If they are inadequate, I go online and look for videos. For this, the included instructions are too minimal. Terms like 'remove' and 'measure', but no directions on 'How To'? If you know how to remove a jam, and measure holes for strike plates, then they are pointless. If you do not know how to, they are useless. I was hoping there would be an Installation Video. I scanned the QR Code on the Instructions. It brought me to their website, but I see no videos under 'Installation Videos'. I logged into my PC, and went to their website, but still no video. I searched YouTube, and did find an Evermark video called 'Meet Everstrike' (see attached), which does show highlights of installation. So, I figured there must be a full video. I watched Evermarks other 4 YouTube videos, but they are what the company does and other products. On the positive, at 83" it is plenty long for most doors, it is reversible and primed white. l would prefer it not having an insulation strip. In my experience, it is better to have the same insulation on all sides of the door, for even wear and fit. Not a quick fix, but great price for a long-term solution.

It is a replacement door jamb leg and cannot be installed on an existing jamb leg. Everything needed is provided, including weatherstripping. This is a really simple concept to provide additional security to the lock on the door jamb. A metal plate that fits inside the door jamb holds two metal plates that provide additional security to the door strike. It is difficult to explain in words how this all works, so I made the included video to shed some light on it.

I am reviewing the 4-9/16 inch by 83 inch Everstrike reversible exterior jamb leg. This will work perfectly for a project I have planned to change our door entry from a 2 door to a single door with side windows. Was surprised that this was assembled as 2 pieces creating a weak spot. I unwrapped this from packaging and I must have done something wrong because the wood is now in 2 pieces. Pretty sure I can fix it and glue it back together right before I am going to install it. This will be connected to an existing frame and get added support from the existing frame. This should work for what I need to use it for. I only gave this a rating of 3 because of this extra work it’s going to take to use it.

This is a nice set to improve security for your exterior door. The set comes with one side of a door frame, instructions, two metal plates, metal bar, and screws. The door frame comes with a tan-colored, insulation door seal. It is primed in white primer. The instructions are for a door that has been damaged from a break-in, but you can install this onto a new door by replacing the latch-side door frame. The metal plates and metal bar are about 1/16" thick. When properly installed, it will make it more difficult for the door to be kicked in. The door frame can be installed on either the left or right side. My expectations have been met.

Simply flipping it end for end allows it to be used for right-handed or left-handed doors. Limited lifetime warrant! It is over-sized so it can be trimmed for a customized fit. With three inch screws a battering ram will ne needed to break through. This jamb is well made and strong. It is simplistic and yet a great design, functional. And it is easily paintable and adds a touch of class, some elegance to most all decorative frame around a door. Wood and metal, no plastics. If it needed to be cut to fit, I can't see that being an issue. I like the gap in the lip, it's a little high and therefore easy to clean out unlike those that are tight and more or less enclosed.

Design looks solid. I hope I never have to test out exactly how strong this door jamb really is. The jamb itself is a soft wood. The same design in a heavier duty material wood really dry this item apart. Key is anchoring it really well to the studs of the doir frame. All said, I would buy again. Only slightly costlier than a typical repair door jamb.

Replaced door frame. Worked properly.

The exterior jamb worked perfectly. it matched the standard jamb that I was replacing. That jamb was in place when I purchased this rental about 17 years ago. This item is designed to replace the latch side of the jamb on a door that has been split by someone using too much pressure when opening the door. I had the help of my son that has some experience in carpentry however he had never replaced a jamb piece similar to this. In the past when I have a similar problem I have chosen to replace the entire door. In the future I plan to use this item to repair the door rather than replace the entire. It saves a few hundred dollars. The job to replace the jamb piece required about 3 hours to complete.

Overall, a great product, the striker reinforcement plates require some space between the jamb and the cripple stud so just be aware of that requirement. One of the striker plates I installed would not lay tight agains the jamb so that consumed a bit of the gap. The install instructions glossed over details about how to make sure screws holes in the striker plates align with slots and holes in the mounting channel. There was also no advice on how to attach the side jamb to the header jamb.

I loved the jamb when I first put it in. Easy to size, install and well made. A year later it is still structurally sound but 30% of the paint is peeling. It was supposedly primed and I painted over the prime with exterior latex. The paint is peeling away leaving bare wood. This means it was not properly primed. I'm going to have to scrape all the paint off and start over with good primer.
