My pickup truck bed cover broke after many years and as my truck is a 2002 stepside nobody makes solid bed covers for my truck anymore. Mine was a roll top and it worked great but the years took their toll. I came up with the idea of utilizing the side rails from my old cover and making a new cover out of 1/2 inch plywood. I was at Home Depot one day and saw aluminum C-Channel and bought a piece to see if it would fit over the edge of the plywood and it did. It was a snugh fit at that which is what I wanted. I believe that having that C-Channel on both sides will help with the wear and tear from opening and closing the cover. I applied vinyl to the plywood with contact cement and trimmed it at the edge of the C-Channel and was real happy with the way it turne out.

This light weight aluminum alloy channel section is a useful size for may projects around the home. It is almost as strong as a similar sized rectangular tube when it comes to bending, although less rigid in torsion. It cuts easily with a hacksaw when clamped in a vise and any rough edges can be quickly removed with a file. Sharp drill bits will cut clean holes in the channel when some oil is used as a cutting lubricant. The surface finish is good and the channel can be painted, provided that a suitable primer is used.

This 1/8' thick, 1 inch outside width aluminum angle is very strong, adding to its desirable stability and stiffness. I am using it to add stability, strength and support to a 3/4 inch plywood base for a slow speed grinding station, and also to protect the plywood edges from chipping and delaminating. It fits perfectly onto 3/4 inch plywood or other 3/4 inch stock.

The Aluminum Trim Channel (T6063) can be cut with a hacksaw and drilled easily. It has a fine extruded finish – it is relatively soft, so any surface imperfections can be easily removed. The product dimensions can be confusing. It is 1” x 1” outside dimension with heavy 1/8” thick walls resulting in a channel 3/4” wide x 7/8” tall (see photo). I use this to quickly and effectively edge 3/4” thick wood or plywood shelves, the 1/8” thickness provides an effective shelf lip (see photo).

I got the Everbilt 3/8 in. Wide x 1/2 in. High x 96 in.Long x 1/16 in. Thick, Aluminum C-Channel. To hold light fixtures below screen tops from above for the weight so it gets transferred to the metal rim and is not on the screen. I also used one for a top track for plexi glass doors. No problem drilling through it with my dewalt drill and some older bits.

I was going to use this for a door frame but I actually needed a wider trim channel than I thought. However, I have an upcoming project - a simple, wall mounted work table made of plywood - that I will use this channel trim to make a clean, finished edge. It's solid, but not bulky, and it will prevent the plywood edges from splintering and warping. This aluminum channel trim will only need an occasional wipe to keep it looking polished.

I built a wooden multi level pet hutch with wood I got from home depot. Some of the wood was vary warped but I compensated by screwing the warped side against the 2 x 4's to take the warp out of the plywood. How ever on the open end with the screen doors, their was no way to control the warp other then secure those edges to take the warp out. I wanted to use some thing stiff to secure the edges with out having the brace take up too much space. So I got the Everbilt 3/8 in. x 72 in. Plain Round Rod and the Everbilt 3/8 in. W x 1/2 in. H x 48 in. L x 1/16 in. Thick Aluminum Trim Channel. They were shipped together in a 6 foot shipping tube. I found with the steel rod it will flex across a long length of the rod and becomes less flexible the shorter in length it is, as I needed to use a 34 inch length this was not ideal as it would be flexed by the warped wood. The Aluminum Trim Channel, has no flex to it at all and due to its U shape design it resists flexing and was able to hold the edge of the wood in place while providing a back stop for the screen door. So it both removed the flex from the warped wood and provided a door back stop with out taking up nearly as mush space as a wood brace such a a 2 x 4 would of. The Aluminum Trim Channel was in fact ideal and a perfect fit for this project. It was easy to cut with a jig saw with a metal cutting blade, and easy to drill with a 12 volt drill.

The Everbilt 3/8in. W x 1/2in. H x 48in. L x 1/16in. thick aluminum trim channel is very light weight and corrosion-resistant. This is easy to cut with a hacksaw and I use a small file to clean up the cut edges. These c-channels can be used for door framing. I use them over edges of plywood for my wood shelving. They are strong and do a great job for me.

Consistently smooth and clean finish, did not require any prep sanding prior to painting. Getting the label was the most frustrating part of the project…not sure why they used the “impossible to remove glue backing” on the label but using a razor would have resulted in scratches. Otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars

I cut this into shorter lengths at an angle (approx. 45 degrees) and used the shorter pieces a ground stakes for yard signs (security system signs). They work very well and the channel design means they are very resistant to breaking or bending. Much sturdier than the plastic stakes provided by the security company.
