    Removes chlorine taste very well
Bought this because our municipal water has had a strong chlorine odor and taste this summer. The filter works amazing, the chlorine taste and smell are gone. A couple complaints... 1. The filter is sold separately!! 2. The water pressure by quite a bit after filter installation

Ordered in June 2020 to replace same model which has been installed for about 5 years. Old one was working fine but in the past I've experienced these filter housings develop pinhole leaks after too-many years in service (GE support told me chemicals in tap water can cause slow degradation in the plastic over years of time), so now I replace every 5 years. I did not experience the filter size/incompatibility problems others have mentioned. I was able to install the same/usual filter cartridge model I've used for many years and the housing tightened properly with no leaks. Note that I use the GE model: UCWRNCH wrench to tighten the housing securely (with the filter mounted on its wall screws), it may be that hand tightening alone might not be enough. I like the fact that there are multiple brands of filter cartridges compatible with this housing which allows me to keep filter replacement costs reasonable. I do wish the housing plastic would last forever but replacing once every 5 years is a minor expense/hassle relative to the amount of good-tasting water I get.

        Flawed design
Same issue as everyone else, the filter is too long for the unit to seal, making the entire thing useless. Adding in the cost of fittings and test replacement filters it gets expensive quickly without ever solving the problem.

Same as everyone else! Major problems! Don’t get!
Just the same complaint as everyone else! The filter does not let you screw the capsule on tightly enough.

              cartridges dont fit
This GE filter has a serious design problem in that the cartridges are too long and you cannot tighten the outer sump enough to stop leaks. I spent a whole day trying to get it to stop leaking and then finally read reviews that others were having the same problem.

                Defective Design
GE has designed a defective product the absolutely does not fit with the intended filter cartridges. Just like every other review of this awful product, the filter does not allow the housing to thread all the way shut. GE offers zero help on the phone. They just say "return to place of purchase" or "buy another filter to see if it fits." This is truly unbelievable and I will switch to using better reviewed filters from another company like 3M. Thank you for nothing but wasting consumers' time.

It leaked from the beginning with the filter in place. It leaks when there is not filter inside. It is a piece of garbage and GE is aware there is a problem with this specific filter. They have even changed the filter media in hopes it would not leak. WRONG. It still leaks. I use this in my vacation home where someone is only there 2 weeks a month. I can't take a chance that it would continue to leak but I should not have to turn off the water at the valve since I have people coming and using the home on odd dates. So I am out for the filter housing and two filters that of course Home Depot won't accept as returns since they were completely saturated and wet.

poorly made product filters do not fit
Wish i had read the reviews before purchasing, at least i did not have leaks as i could not get to fit properly before it even got under the sink. going back to the store and will start again. usually read reviews but was in the "big box store" and saw the product. made a decision based on the GE name. Big mistake, not even a little off on the fit, not even close, there is no way to compress the o ring.

Hello! Thanks for the feedback. We're sorry for the difficulty you're having with your water filtration system. For FXULC and FXUVC filters, make sure the black seal that is at the top and bottom of the old filter is not stuck to the head or canister. The new filter has the same seals and doubling up even 1 side (top or bottom) can keep the filter from fitting correctly. For further assistance, please contact our experts at the SmartWater line at 1-800-952-5039. Thanks for reaching out to us!
                        Leaks like a sieve
A ton of people say filter is too long and outer o ring won't seal. All get told to call a number where they don't answer cos they're closed. How about answering the core problem on here ant tell us why the system doesn't work?

Hello Sssteve - Thanks for the feedback. We're sorry for any difficulty you're having with your water filtration system. If your filter is leaking, please turn off the water supply and turn on the filtered water faucet. Disassemble the filter housing and check the o-ring for cuts, flat spots, etc., and sealing surfaces for foreign material. Clean the o-ring and lightly lubricate with clean silicone grease. Carefully press into the groove in the sump. Reassemble and check for leaks. If this doesn't help, we recommend contacting the experts at our SmartWater Team: 1-800-952-5039. They can be reached from 8am to 6pm, Mon-Fri. (EST).

Just like it says in dozens of other reviews, this unit is manufactured incorrectly and will leak no matter what if you try to install a filter. It’s absolutely ridiculous Home Depot is still selling this. I bought mine in Chandler, Arizona on January 24, 2020.

Stay far far away from this system!!! This unit leaks like crazy due to the plastic threads on the inlet and outlets. I used plumbing tape and then I used plumbing sealant and It took me forever to seal it so it does not leak. If you want to lose all of your hair installing this, then it's for you.

I purchased and installed this unit under my sink. The filter from Home Depot was too large and prohibited the unit from making a good seal. After several attempts at making it work and drying up the water under my sink I called GE. GE support said this was a know problem and sent me another filter. I installed the replacement filter that was sent directly from GE and it was still not sized properly. The unit wouldn't fully tighten and thus continued to leak. I will be returning the entire unit to Home Depot for a refund and try another manufacturer.

                                What is going with GE!?
After reading all the negative reviews on this new GX1S01R filter system, I had to check it out for myself. I have an older model GX1S15C filter system and the FXULC filters have always fit fine including the one I just purchased. I wanted to add another filter system in a differetn part of my house and found that the GX1S15C is no longer made and has been replaced with the GX1S01R. I could not believe the reviews were correct that GE would make a filter system that did not fit the filter, but I am shocked to find out that is true. I went to Home Depot and opened up a new GX1S01R system and tried to put my old filter in it (the filter that works perfectly in my old GX1S15C system). I could not get the canister to seal with the filter in it. The filter that fits perfectly in my old system was a 1/4" too long for the new GX1S01R. I called GE three (3) times about this. The first two times they told me they were redesigning the filter to fit the new GX1S01R system. I questioned them about this since if they make it 1/4" shorter then the filter won't seal in the old GX1S15C and water will simply bypass the filter making it useless. Their solution was that I should purchase a bunch of the old fitters to avoid that problem. The third time I called I was told that GE has not come up with a solution to the problem and that person did not know where the first two had gotten their information, but it was wrong. Who to believe!?

                                Hi Chris,

We are sorry for the confusion and for the frustration. Based on our research, there are two filters that can potentially be used for the GX1S01R. Those filters are FXUTC and FXULC (rev. 2). To view this information, here is a link to the GX1S01R Owner's Manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-50247-1.pdf - Take a look at pg. 2. You can view the FXUTC filter through this link: https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/parts/spec/FXUTC?SpecType=SpecType - And you can see the FXULC filter through this link: https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/parts/spec/FXULC?SpecType=SpecType - Also, if you are having more questions regarding these parts, you can contact our Parts Team by calling 1-877-959-8688. We hope that this helped to clear things up! Best wishes -Michael GE_Appliances
Other than flow rate, I really have no complaints.
Other than the reduced flow rate, I really have no problems with this filter. I have been using the the best filter which is the FXUVC and it does kill the flow rate. But I'd rather have thoroughly filtered water. My fridge came without a built in filter so I hung one of these in my basement to supply it. If I ever make a little mess changing the filter, I'd rather it be in my basement rather than my kitchen. Since it's only supplying my icemaker and occasionally filling a glass, the flow rate doesn't bother me. If I really want to increase flow rate, I've even thought about installing 2 or 3 units in parallel. More cost for filters, but the flow rate would double or triple.

I've ran into the same issue as everyone else - can't close the filter housing because the filter is too tall. I took both rubber gaskets (from the top and the bottom of the filter) and sanded them down with my Orbital Sander using 60 grit paper. After I sanded both down to about 65% of the original thickness, I was finally able to successfully tighten down the housing.
