I really liked the look of this mailbox so I ordered it online. I got it and was not so sure about it but then I put it together and it is really great the way it connects and I liked the way it gets anchored to the ground. You install a block of cement and put 4 screws in the concrete and then just secure it with bolts. Super simple and easier than sinking a post but just as secure. The best part is if I sank a post I was really worried I would get the height correct and this takes out all guesswork.

This mailbox is a great upgrade from what we had here in the neighborhood we are very pleased only note I would put is it recommends you buy a wooden in-ground anchor post with it, if you are a first timer do not buy the wooden post like I did. This mailbox requires cement which was overall a fun DIY project.

This Mailbox can be readily removed/stolen.
After installing this mailbox, suddenly noticed all 4 screws at the base were simply exposed. Anyone can simply unscrew the nuts and lift away the entire mailbox.
I called the manufacturer and they simply said we do not provide this protection.
I don't think I would like to patronize a company like this one.

Attractive mailbox that's pretty easy to install
This Gibraltar mailbox is very attractive, and for the most part, it's easy to install. This mailbox is replacing the exact same mailbox that someone decided to run over in the middle of the night. The lock is pretty sturdy, my previous mailbox was around for 7 years before the accident, and I had to replace the lock one time because someone tried to break into it and jacked up the tumbler and arm. The installation is pretty simple, consisting mostly of a tension rod holding the base, shaft, and top mount together, and then the box is installed with screws to the mount. Make note that if you already have concrete in place where you want this box to go, you'll need to purchase concrete anchors. The mailbox comes equipped with some J-bolt anchors, but that only works for you if you're pouring concrete fresh for this mailbox. This time around I was lucky because I was just swapping units. Drilling the concrete and setting anchors not included, the mailbox took probably 15 minutes to assemble.

As a do-it-yourselfer I can say I put a lot of work into installation ( assembly, hole digging, cement and ancho bolts) . It looks good and I believe it will last a long time.

Nice mailbox. It does the job. Pretty straight foward to assemble (see photos). We screwed a number plaque to the side of the pole. It is the height required by our local postal service. I selected this type of box because I wanted something that looked a little more expensive or more elegant than a simple rural mailbox. I selected this specific model because I wanted to be able to send mail as well as receive through this box. This one has a flag that is easy to use and my mail carrier does move it back so I can look out the window to see if the mail has been delivered/pickec up. This is a locking mailbox, but doesn't have a flap like the blue USPS mailboxes. The opening is wide enough so that a thick magazine or very small parcel can be inserted. However, that also means that fingers could reach over and pull out an envelope if it is resting at an angle (which is how my mail carrier leaves them). However, my mail isn't so valuable or private so that I worry about such things. Personally, I would have preferred a pony express rider on the front of my box, but with that one, I would have had to drive to the post office to mail a letter. We rented a hammer drill to bolt it to our sidewalk and used black Appliance paint to paint the bolts. The appliance paint is a little glossier than the mailbox post, though.

This mailbox was easy to assemble. Used a 90-pound bag of concrete to mount the mailbox base using the included J-bolts, which were set in the wet concrete per the instructions using the base for hole alinement. Let the concrete dry, and then removed the base and assembled the pedestal in accordance with the instructions (did not put the mailbox itself on the pedestal). Then, bolted the assembled pedestal to the concrete in the ground using the J-bolts in the dried concrete Reading other reviews, in order to ensure a solid pedestal upon which to mount the mailbox itself, poured mortar into the pedestal using a narrow stick of about 5-feet in length to push the mortar and ensure that the mortar filled the base at the bottom first and then all the way up to the top of the pedestal. At this point bolted the mailbox onto the pedestal, which, after the mortar dried, is extremely "solid." Added brass numbers (separately purchased) to the front of the mailbox, and the installation was a success. The mailbox looks great!

Easy to assemble and install. I would have expected more substantial bolts though that anchored it to the poured concrete pad. Luckily we live on a cul-de-sac so drive-by baseball bats should not be a problem. :)

The Gibraltar Pedestal Mailbox and Post Combo is the best mailbox I came across when shopping for a new mailbox.
I ordered it online at HomeDepot.com. It arrived packed very securely. The assembly was easy. The mailbox
is well made and fit together very nicely. I would have no problem leaving mail in it while on vacation for several
weeks. The locking deposit is water resistant and very secure.
I have had many people compliment me on the mailbox.

Elegant MailBox, Very nice size.
So far it is Looking great - not the easiest thing to put together, the post comes in 4 parts... We did do as others suggested and after we set it up, we filled the base with sand for even more structural stability. Making a concrete base with Quick-crete, not the easiest task. But the mailbox can handle a lot of mail and is easy to unlock, and we were able to set it up to the measurements the post office demands for curbside mail, with no problems.

This was my second mailbox. The first one lasted over 10yrs and was hoping to get 5 more yrs out of it until a neighbor's dog broke it after it's leash got tangled around the mailbox. The bottom part had started to flake off and likely become brittle.
Purchased the same model and all I had to do was remove the 4 nots on the base and put the new one on.

Arrived with a cracked base
This item is not available in stores, only by ordering online. Mine arrived with a cracked base, in an un-opened box. I re-ordered another one and am waiting for it to be delivered, hopefully in one piece.
