[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The motor on this Hamilton Beach SoftScrape 6 Speed Hand Mixer with Case is about half again as powerful as my old hand mixer, and matches or exceeds the wattage on many stand mixers I would have considered if I'd had the space for one in my kitchen. The manual is very brief and lacks recipes -- but people buying hand mixers doubtless already know what they want to use them for, and therefore don't need detailed instructions. The snap-on case was a new feature to me, but I figured it out quickly enough, and it's certainly a compact way to store all of the included beaters. (If one springs for additional optional accesories, however, you might want to either secure the mixer's power cord with a rubber band outside the case, or find someplace handy to store the extra attachments.) The arrow on the underside of the mixer clearly indicates which beater socket to use if you're only using a single-beater attachment such as the whisk, and possibly also indicates which socket should have a beater inserted first when 2 beaters are being used. (Listen for the click as the beater snaps into place before turning the mixer right-side up, however, or the beaters will fall out.)
I prepared both skin-on mashed potatoes and pineapple upside-down cake batter with the SoftScrape beaters, cornbread batter with the traditional metal beaters, and a non-dairy whipped topping for the cake with the whisk. The plastic batter bowl I used for everything but the mashed potatoes was plenty tall enough to prevent any splattering while mixing, even when I had the mixer turned to its highest speed while mixing the whipped topping. The Dutch oven I mixed the mashed potatoes in was shallower, and I held it with 1 arm curved around as a "splash guard" while mixing, but there was minimal splattering then, too. I had seen concerns elsewhere about such a powerful mixer having a tendency to splatter food around one's kitchen; however, based upon my own experience, I think that a few common-sense measures (use tall mixing bowls, and use the lowest speed setting that will get the job done) can prevent the vast majority of splatters.
None of the foods I mixed required scraping down the bowl during mixing (although thicker things like cookie dough might); I just ran the beaters (regardless of type) around the edge of the bowl to knock loose stuff. The SoftScrape beaters were probably a little quieter and gentler on the bowl than the metal beaters, though, didn't scratch the Dutch oven, and held up well under the heat of just-boiled potatoes.
I hadn't thought I needed a new hand mixer yet, but the powerful motor, sturdy-but-gentle SoftScrape beaters and convenient snap-on case of this Hamilton Beach hand mixer have me sold. (Oh, and if you like stainless-steel major appliances, the stainless-steel finish of this mixer will match them perfectly.) Well-recommended!

No dough hooks
Works as expected.. VERY disappointed that it did not come with dough hooks.. (never even gave it a thought).. and, as far as I am seeing so far, there are no dough hooks out there that are compatible with it.

This hands mixer is powerful and works great. I’m like the covered beaters to keep glass bowls from getting dull. It is rather heavy though. I’m not able to snap the mixer into the accessory holder which was one reason I purchased this model,

I needed to replace an existing mixer which had stop working after having it for less than a year. I saw this online and decided to purchase. I love the overall look of the mixer. It matches the rest of my appliances and it does the job. It is not as powerful as my previous blender but it works just fine. I only hope it lasts for more than a couple of months.
I really like it a lot-I finally found it at Home Depot on line- my old one still works after more then 15-20 years- but was getting a little worn out- this mixer is the exact same one- great power

Love this blender. Sturdy, beaters don’t fall out or rust like my last cheap one. Very happy with the results and the price. Don’t hesitate on this one, it is the best in its class to me.
I love this mixer. The storage area to hold all the beaters and cord is actually large enough to do as it says. The softscrape beaters are awesome for my glass bowls.

This was Consumer Reports rated best value for a home mixer and Home Depot was the only place I could find it. Excellent value!

Very heavy for a hand mixer. It’s a little clumsy to use, my hands hurt by the time I was finished, I had to keep switching hands to ease the stress on them. It gets the job done but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Nice power, easy to handle. I am an older lady so strength in my hands is starting to fail, but this hand mixer was fine. Great quality for the price, durable. I had purchased another product prior to this and it broke within two months. I did have a little trouble with the ejection of beaters, as I mentioned before I have lost strength in my hands. I would definitely recommend this product.

Great hand mixer - love the silicon-covered beaters. Only gave a 4-start because, although the storage base to sit the mixer on is a terrific idea, it is way too light in weight and does not work well with the mixer cord.

This is by far my favorite mixer! I've always had a KitchenAid hand mixer and it never was strong enough for thicker batter. This mixer is 10 times quicker/stronger and the rubber on the beaters don't scratch my bowls. It's a great price too!
