Not Soil
I purchased this to patch areas of my lawn with grass seed. This is far more mulch than soil, the grass seed I laid down will have a difficult time growing with all the wood chips. Really feel like they should rename this product or update the description because it is not as advertised.

We are very sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the product you purchased. All of our garden soils use aged wood fines, which does make our garden soil look different than other soils. We use aged wood fines for three reasons: 1.) Adds structure to native soil which helps air and water penetrate deeper into the soil, helping with root development for greater plant health. 2.) Helps retain moisture to reduce the need to water frequently. 3.) Wood fines are an excellent food source for beneficial microbes, which helps with pest and disease resistance. We are committed to addressing your concerns someone will be contacting you so that we can help resolve the issues that you've experienced. KelloggGardenProducts

As described. Rich topper soil. I used for patching lawn and planting wildflower seeds. All plantings were up within 7-10 days.

Thought I had mistakenly purchased mulch.
I'll be brief: Product is advertised as "Soil for Lawns, Sod & Seed" with a price point exceeding $10 bucks per. What I received is a bag of mulch. There might be some soil in there, but the ratio appears to hover around 90/10 mulch/soil. Certainly possible this bag is the exception. In any event, on the plus side, it is really nice mulch which I needed, so that's good.

We use aged wood fines in our soil mixes for three reasons - Provides better soil structure with its to help help air and water penetrate deeper into the soil mix allowing for better root development and more robust lawn - It is an excellent food source for beneficial soil microbes which help lawns resist pests and disease - It is a more sustainable ingredient, benefiting the environment. It does look different than conventional peat-based soil mixes but provides the benefits that only adding organic material to native soil can do. KelloggGardenProducts

      Rocks in top soil
After throwing down ten bags and running the sprinklers I noticed a ton of rocks. Not just tiny pebbles but big rocks that will be projectiles for sure. Be careful with this stuff. I have gone over half the yard so far and this is what I have collected.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Small rocks occasionally end up in our mixes, but the amount you have described is unacceptable. Someone from our team will contact you. KelloggGardenProducts

        Is it mulch or soil?!
I bought 14 bags of this and it’s basically mulch and not much soil at all. Very disappointed and now my lawn is filled with wood chips/mulch…

The use of aged wood fines is more common in organic soil mixes than conventional synthetic soil mixes. It mimics the natural and organic activity that occurs on the forest floor. For nearly 100 years, we have used fully composted aged wood fines in our soil mixes for three reasons – Better soil structure with its slightly larger particle size helps air and water penetrate deeper into the soil, allowing for better root development and overall plant health – Excellent food source for beneficial soil microbes which help plants resist pests and disease – A more sustainable resource benefiting the environment. No doubt, it does look different than conventional synthetic peat-based soil mixes. KelloggGardenProducts

It seemed like they took more time to let this product break down before packaging it. Which made it easier to work with. No big chunks. Fit into my small plant planter.

Great for planting St. Augustine sod
I used this to cover where the edges of my St. Augustine sod met to keep them moist. Never saw this done but figured it would work well. Boy, was I right! The sod caught on so well and grew together beautifully. I will always use this method in the future.

            CONTAINS SHREDDED PLASTIC
I bought this tonight at my local home depot. They removed my first remove today only after an hour of it being up and I imagine it's because they're getting called out for this issue. Upon opening the bag, I got out about a shovel sized amount, only to immediately start noticing things that didn't belong. Naturally, I start sifting through to discover it was SHREDDED PLASTIC. I found a LOT of shredded plastic bags, along with a wad of rope, cut up plastic black flower pots and even found a cigar tip!! What about this is organic???? This is horrible for the environment and quite honestly, false advertisement. Providing pictures to just show SOME of the plastic or in their words "organic" materials I found in this bag.

              DO NOT BUY
I'm not exactly sure what part of plastic and cigar tips is organic?? I barely opened the bag and found so much cut up plastic and immediately found a cigar tips. The bag was completely sealed, so this is manufacturer issue. Please do not use plastic as fillers, not only is it bad for the environment but my turtles could have eaten this and died. This was the first time trying this brand and it'll definitely be the last.

                Weed grower
I used this product to reseed part of my lawn damaged over the winter. It is a poor substitute for top soil; it had lots of bark mulch in it and lots of crab grass seed, which i not have to eliminate and probably reseed again. Would not buy this again.

Mushrooms are typically a sign of too much moisture. They thrive in damp organic material. Reduce watering and the mushrooms should disappear. KelloggGardenProducts

Bark infested mulch not clean soil
Bought 10 bags to overseed lawn. All of them were full of bark. This is not soil but mulch instead. I ended up watering down and removing most of it with a rake because it was obviously going to suffocate my existing lawn after not being able to get it down to roots of grass. Waste of time and money.

Well the results are quite impressive. I've never had very good luck growing grass... but I have to say this is awesome. With MINIMAL work done preparing the soil (bare spots) - I seeded and covered with about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of this product and watered lightly just to keep wet by hand, not sprinkler, twice a day. The last week or two with a little help from Mother Nature - cooler temps and rain. Before and after pictures. (Looks like I need to change my nickname now LOL) LOVE IT - HIGHLY RECOMMEND

My lawn was ravaged by grubs and needs serious help. Met a Kellogg rep at the store named Dave who recommended this product. It spreads nicely, and seems to stay damp longer - reducing the need for watering. Hopefully all the work will payoff for me. Here's a picture dated April 30, 2018. I will come back later to revise / update my review with the results. So far so good.

                            Stinks, but its AWESOME!
We have been trying to get our lawn to grow for three years. when we bought the house, the back was nothing but sticker bushes and the front had a layer of leaves so thick that the whole lawn was essentially fungusy, moldy, grossness. We have tried seed, sod, all kinds of fertilizer, trugreen, etc, with no luck. this year we started early, put down some cow manure, seed, and topped it off with this stuff. After 7 days we are getting excellent germination of the seed almost exclusively where we put this topper. We will reseed in the fall and ensure we have enough of this to cover everything!

Kellogg Garden Organics Topper is perfect for starting a new lawn from seed or sod. For future overseeding or patching, the cow manure is not necessary. There is composted poultry manure in Topper that will work perfectly to help seeds germinate. Adding organic matter to your lawn consistently over time, will build life in the soil providing a thick turf that will be more resistant to pests and disease. KelloggGardenProducts

                              Weeds and chunks of garbage
Kellogg topper has so many weeds, that I have not had before using the product. I used the spreader that does the sifting as you roll it. So much junk left after all the soil was spread. I will check on the 100% satisfied? However, I spent the time and energy putting it on my lawn )-:
