Replacing this valve turned into a major project. Would like to elaborate to hopefully help someone else. My son's shower valve was leaking and after research, determined that this was the valve needed for the Price-Pfister Avanti series. After removing the retaining collar, I tried for 45 minutes to get the valve out. I'm guessing it may have been original from '87. I tried with handle on, channel locks with the handle off. Heated up the valve with a hair dryer. No way! Had to give up for that day. Checked plumbing sites. They all said just to yank on it for all it's worth with a strong jerking motion. I did not like the idea of putting that kind of stress on the copper and perhaps creating a new problem. Another reviewer here had the same idea I did. I got a 10-24 tap and threaded the center of the valve and then screwed a 10-24 threaded rod into it. Using a hot water tank wrench as a collar, I braced it with "L" channel and used a connection nut to tighten and gently pull the valve out (see photo). It worked fine. BUT, I was not out of the woods yet. Part of the valve was stuck in place. I used a flat screwdriver to pry a black neopreme rubber portion out of the housing. It came out in two pieces and was amazingly stuck in place (see photo). I strongly doubt jerking on the valve ever could have worked. I wet sanded the inside to clean up any imperfections and also used some extra Danco silicone grease (88693) that HD offers for $3.95 for a .5 oz. tube to make sure all would be moving smoothly. All good again. Now to fix the water damaged wall.

Works well. Existing (old) cartridge was EXTREMELY hard to remove (probably original equipment, 20+ years old). So special removal wrench/socket on the market, so had to devise my own, which rests on the sides of the mixer housing, and applies a pulling force on the cartridge via a 3/8" screw.

I bought this as a replacement cartridge for an old Price Pfister shower valve with markings "SHWR 7105" on the valve. I didn't see any markings on the cartridge. In my web searches, there were several different valves with the same markings, so this really was a guess... but it worked! The valve comes with a small amount of silicone faucet grease already on it but I added some extra to the o-rings for good measure. Installation took less than 5 minutes.

Did the trick, easy to install. My really tight valve now works smoothly. I did install it upside down - so now hot is cold and cold is hot, but that is on me, not the part.

Our shower was leaking pretty bad, I looked up what part number I needed and it pointed me to this - removing the old one was a pain, but after installing the new one the shower does not leak and the knob is MUCH easier to manipulate. Very happy.

This cartridge costs quite a lot more than a competing one. So, I purchased one to compare side-by-side. The Pfister cartridge has a metal core (see photos) and has a different shape on the end that fits into the wall. For my money, metal parts are always superior to a similar item that is all plastic. So, I recommend spending the additional money for the Pfister cartridge.

Fit my Price Pfister 25 year old shower valve which was getting hard to open/close.

Replaced cartridges in 2 forty plus fixtures. Leaking stopped and now the knobs pull out and turn with ease. Watched a YouTube video and the replacement went relatively easy.

Original product fits better. Bought related product still leaks.

Factory OEM part worked great. Double the price of non-OEM part, but don't have the time to mess around.

This was the correct size and was pretty easy to replace for my 1991 Price Pfister shower faucet. So happy to find it & not have to hire a plumber to replace everything! I found the part on a YouTube video, but can't remember which one (sorry). There were others they had in store, but they were the wrong sized.

Easy to install and had instructions for all three different kinds of faucets it might be used for. Shower handle works like it’s brand new now.
