Rigid are 2740 belt sander bought this belt sander from Home Depot had it a couple of years now used it a few times and all of a sudden one day it quit working brushes are good switches are good it just stopped why do I wanna spend that kind of money on a piece of equipment when it just doesn’t work I will not be buying another rigid tool there is no way to fix it

Shopping for a Belt Sander and this one caught my eye for the lifetime service agreement. This sander could have been the last one I would ever have to purchase. The cost was about twice that of sanders with similar power rating. This sander failed after about 1 hour of use. It sounded like a bearing failed, motor still worked but no belt movement. I do not review often and really hate to write a negative one. This sander had to be the one in 10,000 made that made it through all the QC checks. Whatever the reason this was my experience.

Bought this sander for a renovation project. It broke within the first 10 minutes. It has now been sitting at a warranty repair shop for over three months. No sign of when the defective parts will be available. I have lost all confidence in Rigid tools! The renovation project has been on hold now for this length of time

It has been a few years since using a belt sander and I was a bit concerned with the quality of a $100 belt sander... Well, I am happy to report this sander worked perfectly right out of the box. No issues with the belt, it stayed in place, and replacement was a breeze. I am very happy with the purchase. The dust collector worked pretty darn good too... Not as good as having a vacuum hose attached, but I am not complaining in the least. Very happy with the purchase and made my project go smoothly. Hopefully will be using it soon. It is a keeper and great for a homeowner that does not need to use on a daily basis. But I am sure it would hold up well for frequent use if the operator does not abuse it.

Love this. Unlike the other belt sanders I have used in the past, this one feels truly heavy duty and like it will last. I use it mostly for sanding hardwoods and it's been great. The vacuum bad is pretty impressive for already coming with the body. Keep up the good work, Ridgid!

It sure did NOT meet my expectations. I bought this to sand paint off of my front door to repaint it. Not only did it not do well, it DIED 45 minutes into the job. A CORDED power tool made specifically for sanding died doing a simple sanding job in under an hour. I buy and use Rigid tools. This one disappointed.

right out of the box I liked the way the rubber grips felt, it made it very comfortable to use for long periods of time, as for operating this sander I think the air, exhaust system on this thing could have been thought out better because after 10 - 15 minutes of use on oak slabs I had dust all over my work area and everything, and nothing in the bag, and I had to blow it out really good because it was plugged up. the thing that drew me to this sander was the lifetime warranty, to me that makes it worth it, just make sure that you stop every so often to blow it out, I know for some that might be a bit of an inconvenience, but I still recommend, Just like everything else if you take care of it, it will take care of you. the pictures will give you some idea of the kind of mess that it makes...

I burned out two other belt sanders (one Skill and one Black and Decker) but this rigid worked excellent for 8 hours with very little downtime. The auto tracking belt worked pretty good and changing the belt is very simple not to mention the lifetime warranty. So far so good.

For the 1st time, I'm disappointed in Home Depot (online). Received my sander in a damaged box which was re-taped prior to shipment. Its clear the unit had been dropped multiple times due to both ends of the box were pushed in or crushed. This is NOT shipping damage, the tape is tight over the top of the damage and not conforming to the actual box damage shape. Returning unit to store, unopened, for exchange. I don't know if it will die 4 month from now due to the drops before I received it. If these are opened box or returns, it should be stated in description. If it's Home Depot's policy to ship damaged box products that would have been difficult to sell in a store (who would actual pick this one from a shelf), it should be stated in the description.

I bought this belt sander for my wood sign project and it did a great job. It was very easy to use and I really liked the feature that allowed one to change sanding belts without tools - just flip a lever!

I had removed a carpet in a house I bought to find a nice hardwood floor covered with paint. I bought this product after renting a large sander which missed too much of the paint even though the floor is even. I was afraid it wouldn't hold up under the extreme use of hours of heavy use over three to four days. I went down to 40/50 sandpaper and it worked very well. It wasn't too heavy or big and I was able to go along the baseboard as well. I've never sanded a floor before and was relieved to be able to do it! I definitely recommend this product for sanding projects. Oh and I left the floor with a distressed look. I added some oil and it looks great! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the exhaust stopped working after the first day. The bag never filled up again. I was 2.5 hours away from Home Depot or I would have brought it in to find out what was going on. However, it didn't affect the sanding but I did have more dust on the floor. I stopped periodically to sweep it up.

We re-did our 15’ x 15’ kitchen floor recently. Before install the new “floating” floor, we needed to remove the existing two layers of flooring. It involved tearing up a layer of peel and stick tile and removing the original linoleum floor. This sander was perfect for smoothing out the remaining “clumps” of glue on the sub floor. Even the dust collecting system worked well (but I would highly recommend wearing a dust mask and making provisions to insure the dust is contained). The only change I would recommend is to make the dust collection bag larger. It fills up pretty quickly.

I bought this because the first one failed while I was sanding my hardwood floor. I had the first one for about five years and got some good use out of it before I pushed it past its limits, sanding the hardwood floor of a 200 SF room, running it almost constantly for hours on end with out breaks other than changing belts. About 3/4 way through, the motor just quit. Understandable I thought - it was not meant for constant use, so I bought the same one to finish the job. Overall, it is a good little belt sander and more affordable than most of the others I looked at.

Literally the worst tool I’ve ever bought. The rollers are held together by thin plastic. Once the rollers heat up, it fails. Rigid knew this if they did any testing at all and still decided to sell it.

DO NOT waste your money. This is terribly under powered. It has a delayed....slow rolling start. I dont know how to describe it other than to say it takes its time getting up to a usable seed. If you take your finger off the trigger its like starting all over again. The button that allows you to keep the belt moving stopped working within minutes of using it. The belt tensioner is quite useless as well and no matter the brand of belts they slip.

i bought this Ridge sander about an year and after using for about a month or two the roller that that speeds the belt stop turning so i checked it out and also it was not sucking the dust into the bag. So i bought it back to Homedepot for return and got a new replacement brought it home and it happened again so i cleaned it out but it still doesnt work. What a dissapointment never again will i buy this Ridge belt sander.

I like the fact that the belt does not wander when applying pressure.

Bogs down on power when using heavy grit.

Had to return it as was too weak to do any type of real projects.

This product broke within a few days. Will be returning.

Honestly it's ok. For 100 I'm not upset but I wish it had I little more power and and the belt didn't slip so much. I was upgrading from a skil belt sander that was $40 and I was would call them pretty close. They both have there advantages. I would like to see the previous model come back. So far I have been pleased with rigid tools and this was the only mild disappointment.
