Disappointment followed excitement
Loved the specs on this. Seemed a perfect gas replacement. I used it once, found it has excellent cut quality--great mulching, no clumping. I cut all but 3 rows (7500 sq ft) on the 1st battery. BUT--when I finished I saw the blade cut into the deck a lot in the area near the right front wheel. No idea why--yard's flat with a couple bumpy spots because it has been so dry. Very disappointed. I returned it for a gas mower--too many reviews say this has not been fixed & I was afraid to try another.

    RYOBI - 40V Self-Propelled - Awesome!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered on-line and received in two days. I had it put together and had it ready to go in less than an hour. Batteries charge really quickly. Can't wait to start cutting!

Great mower until it stops working.
Bought last year. Works very well, but is hard to push and maneuver. The plastic deck also makes it seem extremely flimsy. However, self propel feature and 2 batteries make up for it. However, it's stopped working this year. Will bog down heavily and then die, with the batteries 2 inner light flashing. Will not cut any grass anymore. Will Warranty replace this? We will see. I'll update this review when I find out. In the mean time, my grass stays uneven.

        June 2022 Purchase
Mower comes fully built and ready to go. No assembly needed. This is already ahead of the curb. Batteries charge very quick and honestly the mow is no different than a gas mower and has a respectable amount of power. It does not come with a collection bag so definitely buy this when you order. Great product, very easy to use, I have a decent sized yard and can get by on one charge. Zero maintenance on this thing.

Amazing power! Best push mower I have ever owned.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Picked this up a few months ago after watching some Youtube reviews. I was a little nervous getting rid of gas, but now I am happy I made the switch. This mower is more powerful than any gas push mower I've ever used. It even cut my neighbors yard that he had been neglecting for months. I brought it over to give it a real world test in some of the tallest grass I have ever seen! It plowed through 24+ inches, only bogging down once or twice! I am Very impressed, and so far the batteries are great. I have a large corner lot of thick Florida grass/weeds, and I cut the whole thing with about half of the second battery left over at the end. Never going back to gas! Looking at the history of Ryobi quality, I won't be buying another mower for quite some time.

          Pleasantly surprised
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this mower over a month ago and wanted to put it through it's paces before I reviewed it. I have used it with mulching and bagging and it has performed well. I have an average size yard (see photos) and it takes about 30 minutes to mow. This mower has plenty of power and run time even with thick wet grass . I was hesitant to move to a battery mower my previous gas model lasted 24 years but so far I'm glad I made the move.

            Best in it class
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is one of the best mowers I’ve invested in. I’m not sure how many people worked on this project, I must it’s a work of art. Ready to use right out of the box. So easy to use, I taught my kids how to use it in 60 seconds. No strings, no pulling, no gas, no oil and no mess. Easy to start with a trigger and start button. That’s it. I also love the simplicity on the wheel adjustment also. I never thought I would love cutting grass more than ever. RYOBI, y’all did a fantastic job with this line.

Quiet, Mulch mows good, Good Battery Runtime.
Happy so far, I own many Ryobi 18v, 40v tools, 40v weed trimmer still running 7 years, no deck problems, mowed front twice 1 battery, back 1 and 1/2 batteries, 15k sq. ft. (1/3) acre, batteries charge fast, could have made lights not run all the time would likely improve battery runtime. Vertical storage easy, extremely quiet, don't leave batteries in mower seems to slow drain if you do, mulching quality acceptable, maybe not as good as my Honda, but it cost a $1000 will keep as a backup.

                Just what I needed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this 1.5 weeks ago and have used it twice. My lawn is approx .46 acres and if I don't use the self propel unless needed it uses approx 1.5 batteries and takes me about an hour. It cuts great and gets the job done. I've tried it with the bag and the side chute, I prefer the side chute because it's a little less work. I was having to empty the bag every 15 minutes or so with the bag on. It's pretty quiet, so that's nice. Overall super happy with this buy.

                  Overall good mower
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used this a few times now and I like it for the most part. It's powerful and can get through taller grass. The light is convenient, but I wish there was a way to turn it off. I assume it's not taking that much from the battery, but every little bit helps. It's louder than I had imagined, but still quieter than my gas mower. It's fairly heavy, so turning it is more difficult. I really like the one handle for raising/lowering the height and the simple handle for adjusting/storing the main handle is a great feature. It's nice to have the 2 batteries on deck as well. The 3/4 acre that this is supposed to mow must be flat with low grass, not using the self-propel, or something. I have about 1/2 acre and have to go through 2 of the 6 amp batteries as well as most of a 4 amp one. The handle to raise and lower the deck gets in the way when you lower the main handle (see picture). It's not a big deal because the yellow handle moves out of the way, but still rubs right there. Overall, I'm happy with it, I just wish it were a little quieter and the batteries were either more powerful, or there were 3 of the 6 amp batteries.

                    Worked well
Cut well with the dual blades on both my flat and slight sloped areas. Did NOT cut into the polymer deck as others have experienced. Did 3,000 sq. ft. on one battery. Did two different cuts on different days: Bag collected well. Mulching was good. Annoying blade on-off trigger has to be held the entire time. It's on the handle so not a real problem.

Very poor performance compared to gas.
Todays temperature was in the 90’s And I experienced the worst performance yet. I have 2 6AH batteries and was only able to mow 1/8th acre before both batteries were exhausted. When I tried to charge them the charger gave an error code. Had to bring the batteries inside the air conditioning for 30 minutes before they cooled enough to take a charge. Overall this is heavier, slower, more expensive, and less capable than even the cheapest gas push mower. Sorry.

Very impressed! Better POWER than gas!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The new mower works fantastic! I was a little skeptical, and thought for sure it would be less powerful than our gas powered mower. But, this thing works perfectly! Definitely much better and quieter than gas. I was easily able to mow the entire lawn with plenty of battery life left. It uses two 40v batteries and there's a “key“ that you use to switch between batteries. We have a very tough broadleaf grass called St. Augustine, and it is tough to get through with anything less than a 7hp gas mower. So, yes every power tool we now use is either a 18v or 40v Ryobi.

                            Batteries don't last
I love my Ryobi 40V walk behind dual blade self-propelled mower. However, the batteries don't last. I'm on just under 3/4 acre, and unless I keep the grass cut every three days (which, in no way, is practical), it takes three or more batteries to cut the front and back individually. The Ryobi is impractical for large lawns where the grass grows quickly! Also, I bought a third Ryobi battery, but the 40V 6 amp is much smaller than the original ones with the mower. So what's up with that.

                              Wow. Cuts great. So quiet
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was really impressed with my first mow using my battery powered mower from Ryobi. It is my first non-gasoline mower, and it did not disappoint. The self propelled motion is intuitive. The ability to fold up the lower and not have gasoline spill everywhere is awesome. Plus not having to go fill up the gallon jug and transport it I t he back of my car is pretty sweet.

                                Great Mower
This mower is great. No more noise, no more pollution After 18 months use, A few pointers. 1) Do not cut your lawn wet. ever 2) Start with the blades set high. Lower only if required. Never "scalp" your lawn. 3) Removing the batteries can be a problem. I sometimes have to use a Dasco 5.5" inch prybar to release the mechanism AND a larger prybar (Stanley 12inch) underneath the stuck battery. Be sure to get the 5.5 in bar as far as it can go before levering up with the other

Satisfied overall; still skeptical of plastic deck
Pros: - Battery life as advertised. 1/3 acre yard completed in 65 minutes w/ ½ a battery to spare (i.e. used 1½ of 2) - Remarkably lightweight; w/ 1 battery in, seems ≈ weight of my old (non-self-propelled) gas push mower - Intuitive self-propel - 2 height settings for handle (e.g. for adult, kids) - Vertical storage Cons: - Plastic deck flexes over uneven terrain and especially when circling trees and poles; blade cuts deck (pic) - "Squeeze" handle to keep motor going cuts out w/ loose grip

                                    Returned for questionable quality.
Review after 45min use, 1 day. Mower intended to replace a similar gas model I've owned for 9+ years. Pros: Battery life/power as advertised. Easy to assemble. Good traction, even on slopes. Easy bagging/emptying of clippings. Quiet enough to hear audio over earbuds. Cons: Battery compartment lid hinge snapped after first batt insertion. Mower blades impact and gouge the mower deck when slightly bumped against trees, mail box post. Conclusion: Will not hold up long term, even for DIY level.

Just got it today. In the first 10 seconds of starting it up the blade immediately started scratching the casing. I don't know how a $600 mower doesn't have the most basic quality control. What a waste of time picking it up and now returning it.

                                        An Efficient Cut
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first cut was a breeze. About a 1/2 acre and it was clean and precise. The cross-cut blades provide such a fine cut the bag nearly can hold the clippings from my entire lawn. Knowing this mulching in the fall should be great. I highly recommend this mower and I look forward to years of service. No more having to run to fill gas containers that have to store in my garage.

                                          Major Quality Control Issues
I read that quality control was a major issue on these, and right out the box I saw that the blade was clipping the side of the deck. If I pay this much for a Ryobi I would just expect more. Unsure if I’ll exchange or just totally return. This is my 6th 40v Ryobi item for outdoor use (2nd mower, auger, string trimmer, power washer, pole saw) and already showing signs of the worst quality.

I bought this after having a garage full of Ryobi tools and being tired of messing with gas and oil. I got it in December and unpackaged it. I've used it twice and wondered why the right side of the handle seems loose. After looking at it, it appears that the metal bracket is loose, so I called customer support. They told me I could take it for repair but there was no estimate on a turn around time and that they'd send me the part but they aren't available. I guess returning it is my only hope.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this in September with plans to mulch and bag leaves instead of raking and it has worked great. I am a 66 year old female and am not good with gas equipment and this mower is perfect and so easy to start - just press a button! Our world is going to be going away from gas and in favor of battery for the environment so that is an extra plus. The bagger is easy to get on an off. After clearing most of the leaves, I'll just mulch instead of using the bagger. I'm very happy with this mower. The batteries charge quickly. I've never run out of battery power. I have a big yard and I usually run out of energy myself, before the batteries run out. No trips to the gas station to refill. The mower folds up and is easy to store. I'm very pleased. These photos were just at the start of my work but you can see the path the mower clears. Thank you Ryobi!

It fortunately didn't catch the batteries. I don't know if this was a one-off problem or a design flaw but I wouldn't buy this mower again.
