So far it’s good
We only bought this mower a couple of weeks ago. We’ve always used ryobi products, so we were excited to get our first battery operated mower. We have used it twice and it does a great job. So much easier to use than our gas mower. And so much quieter! However, after we have noticed the handle separating at the seam ehich exposes the cords and wiring. Our complaint begins here. We have tried reaching out to ryobi and can’t get through to a real person to explain the issue. The live chat gives us information that doesn’t pertain to our issue ie: have you tried troubleshooting the problem?! I’m sorry but that won’t help at all! We finally gave up and tried the extended warranty that we purchased from Home Depot. We couldn’t get through to them either! What ever happened to decent customer service?! We spent 500 dollars on this and would like for it to look new at least for a while. We tried calling Home Depot to talk to them and ended up on hold forever! Maybe we’ll just carry it into the store and return it, Eve though we no longer have the box! We really just want the handle fixed. Yes, we would recommend this mower, but , if anything is broken or you have any other reason to get help with it, be prepared to not get any help.

Pickup was great Home Depot associate help me load it in my Jeep! Was nice enough to make make sure flat cart was dry before putting box on it. I love my electric mower, only uses 1 battery for my lawn.

    Impressive Mower
I was a bit skeptical about buying a battery operated mower but so glad I did. I have a lot of ryobi tools so this is just one more ryobi tool in my arsenal. It is quite, starts so easy and mows just as good as my old gas push mower. I have a small area to mow so I decided to buy a push mower. So glad I went with ryobi. They make great hand tools and now push mowers. No more having to stop to run and get gas. I just make sure the two monster batteries are charged and off i go.

Buyer Beware! No Reply from Warranty!
Shortly after getting it, a bolt near the blade went missing. I contacted Ryobi on 8/9/22, about the warranty asking to ship me a new bolt. I worked with Brandon. On 8/25/22 he ordered what he thought was the right bolt. I contacted him again on 9/1/22 and 10/17/22 to let him know that this was the wrong bolt. He responded on 10/17/22 saying he has forwarded my issue to tech and promised to get back to me. I never heard back. I wrote to him again on 4/16/23, 5/3/23, and 6/6/23. Nothing back. Sad

Good mower if the wheels stay on
Writing this review after my first use — Pros: Pre-assembled, great battery life, very user friendly Con: One of the rear tires fell off during the first use and was difficult to get lined up and reattached. Fingers crossed that it’s good to go now, but annoyed by the inconvenience at this price point.

My Toro 163cc 21”gas powered mower finally died after 8 years on Easter. Since I’m already heavily invested into Ryobi Tools, I decided to buy one of their battery powered mowers. It superseded my expectations! It was more powerful than my gas mower and didn’t bog down while scalping and bagging dormant Bermuda grass. I was able to cut my 8,000 sqft lawn a lot faster, and I only used one of the two 6ah batteries!

          Ought to be sued
Bought this yesterday from local store. First step of assembly this morning, the tab for insert into the brush guard snapped the plastic right off when tightened from the other side per the instructions. Hit me right on the cheek bone just missing my eye. The Handle is attached with poorly made plastic components that do not even align properly; the cheap plastic wingnut is threaded and will not even secure so therefore the handle is useless and slides up and down.

            Requires professional arm wrestler use
The “reel easy” bump feed trimmer head is absolute garbage. The strings break after minutes into use, and the broken string retracts into the housing. It takes a near Herculean effort to get the head off to re-feed the string. Once the string is extended into the holes, exhaustion sets in before losing all strength and feeling in your hands and arms before being able to get the feeder housing back to the locked position. Do Not Buy.

I used this once and the plastic flap on the back broke- I’m pretty annoyed. Everything on Reddit says it’s not necessary but for $500+ you’d think it wouldn’t break on day one.

              Blade hits Mower Deck
Bought the RYOBI 40V HP as a birthday gift for someone. Set it up, and they started it only to have this issue. Now I have to take the present back and return it. Should have listen to all the other reviews. This has been an issue for years. So if you're thinking of buying DON'T.

Easy to use, no gas, oil, and save time!!!
I bought it and used mine today and it was amazing. I read lots of reviews before I decided to buy it. But it worth the money and save me time. I am happy with it. No gas, oil, maintenance, and can cut all my patio in one charge. The second battery I didn't have to use it. Recommend for everyone...

                    Five start lawn mower
I wanted to upgrade from the corded electrical black and decker, which was still running. After researching, I bout the 21 RYOBI with two batteries. We have other RYOBI tools but this one is a 40v battery while the other tools are 18v. The machine runs amazingly smooth, it’s not noisy (although I still protect my hearing) and I love the self propelled function. I’ve been using it to mulch leaves rather than bagging and it’s been doing an amazing job. use battery and a half and no issues so far.

                      Warranty is a scam
I purchased this trimmer less than a year and part of the bump head broke off and can’t get the rest off to replace with a new one. I spent hours, days, months texting back and forth with Ryobi Digital Technology who made all RYOBI Tools and you will have to go through for the warranty claim. There is always someone different will ask me the same questions and give me the runaround. As of this day 08 November 2023 still try to get this fix. Good luck trying to get them to honor their warranty.

Blade cut into deck of mower
I used it for the 1st time today and it was good. Great power and only use 1 of the 2 6Ah batteries that came with it mowing my yard. My yard is average size. Charging the batteries were in a timely manner. My only complaint is that when the mower went from cutting a flat surface to an incline or decline the blade would cut into the deck of the mower. The incline or decline was not steep. My guess is the weight of the mower is heavy to the rear causing the deck to flex enough when going over incline or decline that the blade cuts into it. Kind of disappointed since paying almost $700 for it

Absolutely love it!!! 18 year old gas powered Craftsman string trimmer broke one too many times and I was tired of fixing it. Went out and got this and while pricy it works beautifully and makes trimming fun again! My gas powered string trimmer had a curved head end shaft which I preferred. I was actually able to use that end on this one. I was also able to swap out the string trimmer head too as my old trimmer head had seen better days.

Awesome! Love it! Did back yard on 3/4 of ONE battery! The speed adjustment is fantastic! I have a lung disease and can't keep up with most normal mowers. This thing goes my speed and WAY more if wanted. Mulcher works great. No clumps. Bought this because new grass was planted after major landscaping and can't use rider for a long time. This is the best one I found after lots of research!

                              4.5 Love it, but....
I am very impressed with the power and self-propelled assistance. The only concern I have is the raisied root ball of my oak tree pushed the edge of the blades up into the plastic blade cover. The blade cut a hole right through the cover. Maybe a metal shield installed underneath to protect it from the edge of the blade? I want to give it 5 stars, but I can't as I have trees I need to maneuver around. This mower is difficult to turn, even with the assistance. It performs best on flat lawns.

                                Batteries stuck in mower
After using this mower twice, the batteries became stuck in the mower on my third mow. I mean incredibly stuck. I pryed one out with a screw driver and the other is still in the mower. I cant even pry it out. Im damaging the mower and the battery by trying to get it out. I contacted Ryobi about the problem do i will update this review if possible, however, for a $600 mower i am pretty upset. The plus side of the priduct is that it cuts grass very well and i can get the blade razor sharp. Too bad i cant use it now.

Very good mower but not perfect
What I like: assembles quickly, pushed easy, plastic bag friendly basket, one lever height adjust with great range, mowed quarter acre yard with 2/3 battery, the front wheels are close to the deck, easy upright storing, powerful motor. What I don't like: inside deck already scratched, no key storing position, 1.5" uncut distance on side, height lever gets in the way, many cavities, button should start and stop blade, handle close to walls, wheel drive starts delay, front tires should be narrower

                                      Could be great...
During use, the mower has a ton of power… it definitely has more power, mulching in tall grass, than my old gas powered mower. I can mow my entire yard (0.3 acre lot) on a single battery if I dont use the self- propelled feature. Its quiet, it cuts very well and easy enough for my wife to use. The biggest issue I have with the mower is that the batteries fuse to the mower casing every time I use it. After bringing the mower home and giving it a try in the front yard, I spent at least 3 hours attempting to remove the batteries from the mower and researching the problem online so that I could charge them. I eventually used a thin piece of metal to break the fuse point in the plastic. Unfortunately, every subsequent mowing Ive experienced the same behavior… there seems to either be an overheating issue with the battery or the casing is just too close to the battery. Either way, save your self the frustration and look for another model.

                                        Carbon fiber is for real
I have the "original" 40V brushless weed eater which I have been using it heavily for 2-3 years now for brush clearance. I finally destroyed the head of the string trimmer and decided to give the carbon fiber a shot. The carbon fiber is significantly lighter than the old version and it makes a big difference. In terms of power, it truly does have gas-like power. The battery lasts long enough to trim a yard. If you're trying to clear a large area, you'll need a few batteries.

My machine is less than a year old and the start key assembly is no longer fitting into the slot. I’ve been searching online to replace it the part but it’s impossible to find even with the part number from the manual. This machine is still being sold so I’m unsure why this is an issue. Is this a known part to have issues? I’m unsure how to file a warranty claim.

                                            Poor quality, poor performance.
Following all of the positive reviews I purchased this model. Unfortunately for me I'm the 1% who's trimmer came apart after only 40 minutes of use. The nut (now lost) securing the grass deflector vibrated off (with proper tightening). Minutes after that, the string completely retracted into the string head. Against my better judgement I disassembled the string head to uncoil the string and now after repeated attempts I can't get the string head back together. The unit and it's parts are back in the box available at my next yard sale. No, I don't recommend this model.

                                              Several negatives
Upon first use, the edger guard for this trimmer was damaged by a small rock that was kicked up, for which I exchanged for a new one. Also, the center of the unit was smoking and extremely hot as the tightening screw managed to loosen thereby separating the drive shaft components and friction was creating the smoking. Third, the battery life, at 45 minutes was disappointing. Lastly, the trimmer head was difficult to reinstall - I needed to put the head in a vise to have enough hand strength to force the head back on. I will be returning this as it is a lot of money for so much failure and disappointment.
