We got this trimmer mostly for our farm property and around the house. We do not want the upkeep of a motorized trimmer for small jobs. It was easy to put together the few pieces and was ready to trim grass. The grip/handle is comfortable. The 40 volt battery seems to have adequate power and lasted for quite a while. If I had more to mow/trim, I would get a second battery. It is fairly light-weight and easy to handle. The string was easy to add and replace. I was not overly impressed with the other heavy weed attachment. There were no instructions on how to put it together, but it easily replaced the string head. I believe it is a good trimmer for up to a moderate size yard, additional battery would be better. Good value trimmer

This package includes the Power Head and the Straight Shaft Trimmer. The Power Head has the handles, place for battery attachment, and 2 position speed selector. The trigger has a safety that you pull back first, before pressing the trigger. The 40V battery (included) seems like it would be heavy, but the 2 hand positions make it very well balanced, and not too heavy. The trimmer seems very well built. The shaft is carbon fiber, with solid metal fittings holding the trimmer head on. It comes with 2 different heads. One head is a standard bump feed head (string trimmer). It comes with 0.08 inch line installed and an extra replacement line and a speed winder for replacing the line. The cutting with can be adjusted between 13” and 15”. The other head is a fixed-line bladed head that holds 2 plastic blades for cutting thick/heavy grass. It also comes with a rapid charger. I was surprised how fast it was - from zero to full charge in less than 10 min. The trimmer is plenty powerful and comfortable to use for a big yard. Plus, the bladed head is nice if you have some heavier, overgrown areas to deal with. The trimmer shaft can detach from the Power Head and you can attach other Ryobi Expand-It tools such as an edger, blower, snow blower, or tiller. Overall, it’s a well-built and versatile tool for a homeowner who does all his/her own yard work.

I'm not a tall person by any means, I've never used a string trimmer before...it's normally my husband's task/job. When I told him that we were going to be getting this Cordless Ryobi trimmer, he was very pleased. His current trimmer is a pain in the rear to change out the string and it uses regular gas. In other words, it isn't ideal for him. However, right before delivery, my husband had major surgery and cannot lift anything more than 10lbs for the next six weeks...which brings me to the weight of this trimmer...it's twelve pounds with the battery. The battery itself is without a doubt the biggest rechargeable battery I've ever seen! I managed to get the trimmer all snapped together for him to give it a 'once over' as best as he could. We charged up the battery and gave it a few 'vrooms' to test out the power on the trimmer. I tried to give it a few zips in the grass, but the weight combined with the length for me, was a no go. He however says it sounds powerful, it also looks and feels like a high quality trimmer for his upcoming future dates with our landscaping needs.

Amazing! A huge step up from my corded, electric string trimmer. It is very easy to put together, although the instructions referred to illustrations, I never saw any. No matter, it's a string trimmer, pretty much only one way to fit together. The first thing I did was charge the battery, it took forty mins to fully charge from one light to four. There are examples on the side of the charger that explain what the light colors/flashing means, basically, steady green = fully charged. I have a mid-sized yard, 5,000 square feet of grass and a good neighbor fence in the back. Once assembled, I took it out for a quick spin. I was able to trim my entire backyard in minutes. I found it best to use it on a fairly low trigger speed, all out and this will eat through any normal residential trim duty, including, dirt, wood, etc. It didn't bother me to lay out my 100 ft extension cord and use my electric trimmer, but this has ended all that. I tried this as it was highly recommended by others in my family. It didn't disappoint. Nicely balanced and easy to use and no gas to deal with or cord, simply use, charge and hang it up. This is part of the Expand-It system which offers all kinds of attachments, which I will add as required, but for now it's my trimmer of choice.

I am a traditionalist by nature so have not tried the battery operated weed eaters until now, I recently took a chance on the Ryobi 40 Volt Carbon fiber weed eater with attachment capabilities..Wow, I really like this weed eater, it has the power I need, its light weight and well built. It was easy to assemble. It comes with everything, the weed eater, battery, charger, line, wind tool and extra line....I am now a Ryobi fan and anxious to try other Ryobi products...another plus is the weight, much lighter than my gas weed eater...something the wife or a kid can use..

What can I say other than Ryobi makes quality products and this Ryobi 40 volt cordless string trimmer is the real deal. First of all this has plenty of power for trimming and it is battery operated, no more gas or oil it is powered by the 40 volt battery. The really great thing about this is that there are other attachments that you can purchase that works with this such as a chain saw and mini tiller and I think a hedge trimmer and a couple more. The main unit comes with a 5 year warranty and the battery with a 3 year warranty and that is a great warranty. I know that you want one so head on down to the Home Depot or go on their website and order one and when summer roles around you will be glad that you did.

Hubby loves this trimmer. It came well packaged and was not damaged in shipping. There is some assembly required but it was easily assembled. It comes with a charger and battery. One feature that is nice is the speed-bump feeding system .... just like the gas powered HEAVY trimmer we already own. The best part about this trimmer .... it compatible with other RYOBI Expand-It attachments,

RYOBI 40-VOLT HP BRUSHLESS LITHIUM-ION CORDLESS CARBON FIBER SHAFT ATTACHMENT CAPABLE STRING TRIM...
RYOBI 40-VOLT HP BRUSHLESS LITHIUM-ION CORDLESS CARBON FIBER SHAFT ATTACHMENT CAPABLE STRING TRIMMER 4.0 AH BATTERY & CHARGER. This is a very nice trimmer. It is well balanced. I like the way they designed the safety trigger. I biggest reason I got this trimmer was because of the expand it options, I want to purchase the shaft for the blade for brush. I have a gas powered curved shaft and the brush trimmer is not an option for it, and the ryobi has a lot of capabilities for other attachments. I find myself leaning more towards the battery powered more cause there is no gas mixing and way lower maintenance.

This review has four parts—the powerhead, the trimmer attachment, the battery that powers them, and the battery charger. The string head, attachment knob, battery and charger proved to be the biggest improvements. The Owner’s Manuals are incomplete and lacking important information and the manuals on the HD website are for different models. The Ryobi website does not have the manuals either. POWERHEAD: The brushless powerhead is much different in looks and performance than the two conventional powerheads that I have. I own many Ryobi outdoor products and attachments, hence, two powerheads—now three. This new powerhead receives the included 4 Ah/144Wh battery on the end of the powerhead rather than on top which shifts the balance point toward the battery—which is a negative. With the String Trimmer Attachment in place, the distance between the handle grip and balance point is 8-inches versus the older model which is 12-inches. The forward handle on the older model is at the balance point, but if the forward handle on the brushless model is placed at the recommended location it will be 4-inches from the balance point which does put the handles 12-inches apart but throws off the balance significantly. The safety interlock is simplified and integrated with the power switch trigger, but it is harder to operate with gloves on. It also accepts my existing 2.6 Ah/95Wh batteries. The motor has two speeds, and the trigger provides variable speed within those two maximum speeds. I do not see the variable speed feature as very useful with the string trimmer, but maybe with other attachments. Low speed works fine for general trimming and high speed makes edging a bed quick work. The speed of my old trimmer appears to fall between the two speeds based on the sound levels. Is the tubular shaft is made from carbon fiber for weight savings? Not really. The tube has a metallic feel, but it is non-magnetic. The brushless powerhead weighs 5 lb 1.3 oz which is practically the same as my old power head at 5 lb 1.5 oz, both without the battery. The overall length—including battery—is 36-inches verses the older model at 33-inches. If the overall length of the powerhead was reduced 4-inches—balance would be perfect. The only assembly required is to attach the front handle which is angled to provide a more comfortable grip position. The large, plastic wingnut for securing attachments only requires a 90-degree twist to tighten firmly onto the attachment shaft. The unit accepts most all square drive attachments plus the Ryobi Expand-It line of seven different types. I tried it with a Power Rotary Scissors attachment I have that takes the most power to start and run of any of the attachments I have, and it is the heaviest. The brushless power head had noticeably more starting torque than my old powerhead. The powerhead can be placed vertically on a flat surface without falling over, with or without the battery in place, and has a slot on the body to hang it on a nail or screwhead. The Operator’s Manual is very poor and does not include a drawing showing the location of the parts referred to in the manual. There are many references in the manual to “figures”—up to Figure 7—but there are no figures included. STRING TRIMMER ATTACHMENT: The straight shaft is made of carbon fiber and the entire assembly weighs 2 lb 14.8 oz compared to my old trimmer at 3 lb 6.2 oz. The length is the same. The String Head comes pre-attached with only the Grass Deflector needing to be attached. The manual says that the line cut-off blade comes set to provide a 13-inch cutting swath, but it came reversed on mine to provide a 15-inch cutting swath. Run-time is reduced at 15-inches. The String Head is preloaded with a little more than 10-feet (126 inches/3.2 m) of 0.095-inch diameter spiral line. The manual says the line should be limited to 10-feet to prevent jamming. And although the manual indicates that the replacement line should be 0.080, the box says that 0.095 diameter line can be used. An additional 10-feet of line is included. I have never had a string trimmer that made it easy to insert new line through the head, but this one works great. The included speed-winder is nice, but not needed. Removing the Lower String Head Housing from the upper housing to gain access to the line spool is much easier with this new model as only a twist is needed rather than depressing the two tabs on my old housing. The assembly is spring-loaded so be prepared to grasp it firmly as you rotate the housing from the “Locked” position. The instructions mention a Hanger Cap that can be placed over the drive end of the attachment for storage, but it is not included. Now it gets interesting. There is a second Lower Housing included along with two serrated, plastic blades and two pieces of string. The box mentions REEL EASY+ 3-in-1 Bump Feed Head but there is no mention in the manual on how to install the plastic blades or the precut string. I finally figured it out, but it should be included in the manual. I doubt that I will ever use the fixed length string feature as it will take about as long to install the string and change lower housings as it will to reload 10-feet of line. A search for Reel Easy+ 2-in-1 Pivoting Fixed Line and Bladed Head will provide the requisite installation information. BATTERY: This model comes with a 40-volt battery rated at 4 Ah/144 Wh, which is 54% more than my existing 2.6 Ah/95 Wh batteries. One charge never lasted long enough to do the whole yard. This extra capacity is perfect. The 4 Ah battery is slightly longer than the 2.6 Ah, but surprisingly, it weighs less by 1.3 ounces. The new release lever is larger and much easier to operate than the older design. BATTERY CHARGER: I have accumulated many Ryobi chargers—both 18-volt and 40-volt chargers over the years so I did not think that I needed another—I was wrong. My first clue was when I slid in the battery and a fan started. After about 40 minutes the battery was fully charged, and the cooling fan turned off. I checked my other 40-volt chargers—60, 72, and 88-watts, and then I checked the new charger—295 watts; and it is much smaller than the 88-watt charger! I often keep the chargers plugged in assuming that the stand-by parasitic load is low. At 295 watts, I was more concerned and checked it out. The charger drew 2.1 A while charging the 4 Ah battery and dropped down to zero when finished. But if you think that it will charge your 2.6 Ah battery faster, it appears that it will not. The charger only drew 0.2 A charging the smaller battery, whereas my 88-watt charger charged at a rate of 0.4 A. There must be some interesting electronics inside the chargers or batteries or both. WARRANTY: The tool has a 5-year warranty, and the battery is warranted for 3-years. Everything is made in China.

The RYOBI 40-Volt HP Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless Carbon Fiber Shaft Attachment Capable String ...
The RYOBI 40-Volt HP Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless Carbon Fiber Shaft Attachment Capable String Trimmer 4.0 Ah Battery & Charger works really well. We love the Ryobi tools, we have several and they get a lot of use. The instructions for putting it together are easy to follow, you really only need a screwdriver. This trimmer has two heads for it, the traditional line head and a bladed head for rougher foliage. The battery life lasts a long time during use, we always have one charging so we can switch them out because we have a big property and do a lot of trimming. You can get pre cut line for the head and replacement cutter blades at Home Depot. They are easy to replace, there are videos online to help guide you through it. Even though it is winter, we still had sections of grass that needed trimmed, and I tested it out on those areas, it worked great. There are different attachments that are available for it as well. As I said, Ryobi is a great product and they last a long time.

I know battery tools are better for the environment, but I have been really hesitant to make the jump after a few bad experiences with early versions. My buddy convinced me to give it another shot because the battery technology has advanced so much and I have to admit... I am pleasantly surprised. The strimmer is SUBSTANTIALLY lighter than a gas version, even with the battery installed, and feels much more balanced in my hand than a gas version. The motor starts instantly on trigger press and comes in with full power, there is no "warm up" period like a gas engine. It's winter here, but I had some tall grass in the orchard that I have ignored all year so I tested it out on that. It was more than capable of handling it, never bogged down on me, and I'm surprised at how long the battery lasted. If you think about it, a lot of your time trimming is spent walking from one location to the next... and this trimmer doesn't need to be running for that - only when you're actually trimming - so you're using very little of the tool during a 30 minute trimming session. When I was done I popped the battery in the charger and while I didn't keep track of the specific time it took to charge, it was done somewhere under 2 hours because when I popped back in the barn it was full. This will be my "go to" trimmer next summer. If you have been holding out on battery tools (like me), give them another shot... they've come a long way,

I've been using these 40-volt Ryobi tools for a while, and they are terrific. This string trimmer completes the set. With cordless tools, it makes a lot of sense to pick a line and stick with it. You want good quality and a nice range of different tools that can use each-other's batteries and chargers. A nice surprise is that it came with a 4AH battery and the quick charger rather than the regular charger. The weight of the battery makes the tool balance nicely. The handle can be installed for right or left hand use. There is no place to attach a strap, but that can easily be worked-out. The one thing that gives me pause is the carbon-fiber shaft. Carbon fiber is light and strong, but it does not take a knock like metal will. I would also be careful of what kind of attachment I use with the carbon fiber socket. Definitely no cultivator. It comes with an extra cutter head with swinging plastic blades that looks like it might be very useful if replacements are available.

Powerful String Trimmer This new Ryobi 40V cordless string trimmer is amazingly powerful. I think it is equivalent to my old gas powered trimmer. This comes with the 40V 4Ah battery and rapid charger. The trimmer has a switch that controls maximum speed (low or high) I find it cuts fine on the low setting, and battery would last longer. The trigger is variable speed. The string has a bump feed for extending the string. The shaft is light-weight yet strong carbon fiber. It is a straight shaft, and total length is a few inches under 6 feet, so it has a great reach. Well balanced, and comfortable handles. The split shaft design allows for quick change of other attachments that are available for this unit. This is a really nice cordless trimmer. I’m very happy with it.

This RYOBI 40-Volt HP Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless Carbon Fiber Shaft Attachment Capable String...
This RYOBI 40-Volt HP Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless Carbon Fiber Shaft Attachment Capable String Trimmer, 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger is a welcome addition to my growing assortment of cordless electric tools. My old trimmer is also cordless but it takes gas/oil mix, some effort to get it started and it makes a lot of noise. This unit does as good a job of trimming without gas and noise. The new style battery is a bit longer and has an easier to use unlocking lever which is welcome. The included rapid charger is also a significant upgrade over past Ryobi chargers. The operating trigger has a separate tab that must be pulled to get action, a nice safety feature. The balance of the unit is good. This model lets you change out the function end while using the same power head, a nice feature which I am likely to utilize. It is also compatible with several other manufacturers function ends, nice. It came with two string holders with a nicely functioning bump head installed. There are no instructions for the alternative head which I will not use anyway.

Ryobi 40 volt brushless 4 AH battery operated string trimmer. Before I start to review this trimm...
Ryobi 40 volt brushless 4 AH battery operated string trimmer. Before I start to review this trimmer I must say we've had a ton of snow here living up in the north east and since I cannot say it has a lot of power when trimming or how long a fully charged battery will last ( since we have 4 inches of snow on the ground and it's 21 degrees F outside, but will give you some highlights of this great trimmer. First off as I received this trimmer just today. The features are fantastic and it's a well made trimmer. So many options on this trimmer is unbelievable . You have a carbon shaft that is light and strong and also detaches to accommodate different tools that can attach to this trimmer ,[ sold separately ]. The EXPAND-IT attachment capability allows you to transform your trimmer into an edger, blower, pole saw, and many more attachments. It comes with a bump feed line spool , a split shaft allows you to use different attachments. This unit is equipped with a REEL EASY plus 3-1 bump feed head with a speed winder which can be reloaded in 60 seconds or less. The REEL EASY plus head can function as a bump head feed ,fixed line head or bladed head. It has a variable speed trigger and a 2 speed ( high or low ) motor for different applications when trimming tall grass, thick weeds or just edging. The adjustable 13 inch to 15 inch cut allows you to optimize your trimmer. PLEASE NOTICE YOU DONT GET THE CHARGER THAT IS PICTURED ON THIS PAGE. YOU GET A HEAVY DUTY 40 VOLT CHARGER WITH COOLING FAN TO SPEED UP THE CHARGING TIME . A GREAT IMPROVMENT [ Please see photo that I posted ] !! Thank you Ryobi. The bar that you attach to the handle that you hold is on a 30 degree angle and makes it very comfortable as opposed to just a handle that is 90 degrees to the shaft, a big improvement. If you a righty or lefty the handle attaches both ways. The trimmer is well balanced with the extra weight of the battery in place as you can adjust the handle on the shaft ( attach it high or low on the shaft. to suit your comfort zone .) When I received this trimmer the batter had 1 energy bar showing , in about 50 minutes I had all 4 bars glowing and was fully charged, Remember if you have any 40 Ryobi tools, this battery will work with your other tools , all 40 volt Ryobi batteries are interchangeable. So many great features with this trimmer and I only had to use a adjustable wrench to attach the guard onto the trimmer, everything else can be hand tightened. Comes with instructions and everything you need to get the job done with this trimmer, you get the blades, extra line. They give you ..080 extra line put can use up to .095 line. Get this trimmer, it's a great addition to keep your lawn looking great ,Plus the 5 year warranty.

The RYOBI 40-VOLT HP BRUSHLESS LITHIUM-ION CORDLESS CARBON FIBER SHAFT ATTACHMENT CAPABLE STRING ...
The RYOBI 40-VOLT HP BRUSHLESS LITHIUM-ION CORDLESS CARBON FIBER SHAFT ATTACHMENT CAPABLE STRING TRIMMER 4.0 AH BATTERY & CHARGER is a nice upgrade for my 3 year old model. I have been using RYOBI 40-VOLT lawn tools (mower, string trimmer and blower) for 3 years and I love them all. This new design comes with a larger size battery and charger, but they still fit the old 40-Volt tools. The charger was able to charge the new battery very quickly (I did not time it, but it seemed to fully charge in 10 minutes!) The motor housing is a little bigger and longer which was cool to the touch as I supported it against the inside of my upper arm. My old model would often get hot to the touch. There is a variable speed switch on this new model. Included in the box was an additional trimming head with a pair of orange plastic cutting blades, but the instructions did not mention it. I was not able to figure out how to attach it, so I will need to research this with RYOBI. I definitely recommend this product and any tool made by RYOBI!

Delivery time was quick. Easy to assemble the little that needed assembly. Batteries charge in 1 hour and last me about 1 hour each. Self propelled feature has a variable speed control that works well for me. I have mowed my 1/2 acre lawn 3 times so far and the mower performed well. It is early in the season so I am mowing at the highest level until the lawn has fully grown in. I will try the mulch feature as the season progresses. I am quite impressed and pleased I made the jump to battery vs gasoline.

No pull cord, spark plug, gasoline or oil to deal with. Highly recommend. Expectations exceeded the beforehand knowledge.

Really happy with this purchase. Set up was very easy. So nice to not have to deal with gas anymore. First mow went well, cruise control will take some getting used to but it was so nice to help propel the mower in rough spots on the lawn as I have sore shoulders. I did have to switch batteries however my grass was longer than normal and fiddling with the cruise likely used the more power, I’m pretty sure I’ll get by on one battery with regular use. I also used the mulching plug and it went in easily and worked great. With my gas mower it would stop when going through thick grass at times and this mower had no b problems going through thick parts. I did slow or stop the cruise at these spots and it handled it just fine. Really impressed.
