[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just bought this product & have only used the grass shears to trim around the headstones of numerous family graves. I absolutely love them & I know they will be very handy to use around my house next spring. I’m looking forward to using the shrubber on my bushes as well. I’m super happy with my purchase!

Nice trimmer
I haven’t used it for any heavy duty cutting, but for trimming ornamental grasses and small bushes, it works great. It’s light weight and the one-hand operation is nice. We used it for a lot of cutting (work took a few hours) and the 4A battery I used was still at 3 (of 4) bars.

Light and compact
I have received my trimmer , set it up and have been having a great time trimming all of my bushes.
It is a little too heavy however the battery does help balance that out a little.
It is also 2 tools in one ! You can use your Grass sheer tool change right out into the hedge trimmer ! One of my new favorite Ryobi tools !

Great for small jobs - light weight
I bought this product to do my 7-ft tall evergreen trees. My trees are in a spiral design and the branches are thin and soft. It worked beautifully. I do not recommend it for heavy duty jobs it isn’t made for thick branches. I do not have grass so i dont know how it works on grass. Putting the blade on and off is very easy. It took me 10 min to do one tree!

Very light weight and easy to handle
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Shrubber is exactly what I needed. Previously I had to trim my shrubs by hand and because I wanted to create designs in my shrubs, I had to use a Lopper to get into those tight spots. This year my Arthritis got much worse and what had worked before would no longer work for me. I thought about getting a more standard Hedge Trimmer; but their blades are just too long to do what I want to do. And then I saw your shrubber on line and it was love at first sight. I also was favorably impressed by the 18Volt battery. I've had previous experiences with tools using smaller batteries that would consistently run out of power in the middle of a job and it was something I was going to avoid at all cost. This tool performs exactly as I'd anticipated, flawlessly. When the battery did quit, I had finished all that I possibly could for the day. Perfect!

Easy to use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have only used this trimmer once but it fits my purposes perfectly. Recent cervical spine surgery has limited my range of motion and I now have weight limitations. My heavier hedge trimmer was too heavy so I opted for this lightweight model. I can handle it easily and love the maneuverability as I trim. I didn’t need a heavy duty tool so this one is perfect for my use. Hope this is helpful

they constantly fall apart
i just bought these about 2 weeks or so ago mainly to cut the grass around my inground pool deck. first time using i was thrilled. they cut very nicely and quickly with no mess. however, this is the third time using them and the entire bottom blade assembly including pin falls out about every three minutes of rapid use this must be a design flaw. not up to par with all my other Ryobi yard tools. Ryobi??

Not made of high quality so you get what you paid for
bought this cordless trimmer for our shrubs around the house so my wife doesn't have to use the old school shears. the trimmer itself is pretty easy to use, you just plug in the battery and pull the trigger basically. oh there's a safety switch. swapping the shears is pretty straight forward as well. there's a screw on lock at the bottom that you unscrew, swap the shears, and lock the screw back in tight. while my wife likes it because it made trimming our shrubs and hedges easier, it is not made of high quality materials. the 4" shearing blades form rough edges easily. while trimming, we hit a twig that was a little thicker than normal and the blades got stuck and stopped. upon closer inspection, i saw that the blade formed deep burrs stopping the shearing action therefore the whole thing was stuck. i have to unscrew the whole bottom plate to get it out just to release the shears and later spent close to an hour sanding down the burrs to get a smooth cutting action so the blades can cut and overlap smoothly. what a pain! use it but don't expect this to be problem free, chances are you will encounter some issues due to low quality built.

To be completely fair, I've only used the Shrub Trimmer attachment since I got this 3 months ago. I rather doubt that the grass trimmer will be any less effective though.
The battery life is quite good, and I can trim 1,000 sq. ft. of Living Wall on a single charge easily.
It's lightweight and is very good for working with one hand. Depending on how "woody" of a material you are using it on, it cuts well up to about a pencil thickness. So for TRIMMING, it is a very good value to use. Using on anything heavier than a pencil thickness on a regular basis I would consider tool abuse, and tougher equipment should be used in my opinion.

Only good for FLUFF
If you’re using this for small shrubs and only want to cut off just the leaves and hardly any depth into the shrub it’s fine. Other than that if you really need to get some real depth into it it doesn’t cut anything as the blades are very very dull. All it does is really just shake the shrub any real cutting , with any small amount of depth to keep size, it is worthless. Very disappointed. Even when cutting the fluff, the shrub looks barely trimmed. Photo shows side cut with Ryobi, top was cut with electric trimmer.

Great for triming close.
I am using this trimmer for trimming close to plants, as well as gerring into corners where the string trimmer doesn't work well. It cuts more then I expected - I cut down a rose vine that was growing where it shouldn't with the grass clipper with no problem. I haven't shrubber trimmer yet, but I expect it to work well when I do. Tool change is easy as well.

Old and Outdated Design that Self-Destructs Far too Easily, and Warranty is a Pain
Like many of the other low-rated reviews of this tool, I'm usually a fan of Ryobi power tools. I don't expect my Ryobi stuff to stand up to hard use and abuse like more expensive brands I own, but I'm usually confident they won't suddenly quit on me in normal use.
I can't say the same about this shrubber. First, this is an old tool. The molds are worn out - there are imperfections, flashing, and extra material throughout the casing. They were probably selling the same thing in blue a decade or two ago.
Second, it's a 'dumb' tool. A sign of its age - it's just a motor and some gears connected directly to the battery. For some tools this isn't a big deal, but for something like this that can jam up, a little logic to shut down the motor to prevent breakage is almost a necessity.
This would be fine if the tool was robust enough, but this one isn't. The blades run off of eccentric cams to produce the back and forth motion. These are crudely riveted into a plastic gear that engages with the motor. The housing that contains these cams is also thin, flexible plastic. The result is that if the cutting teeth bite into something tougher than a couple tiny rivets buried in plastic, the rivets pull through the plastic, the housing flexes out of the way, and the cams jump their engagement with the blades. This causes permanent damage and the cams will start 'jumping' more and more often, failing to cut anything.
For context, this happened to me the first time using the tool, after about five minutes of trimming some new growth on a line of bushes. I doubt I exceeded the 5/16 inch stated capacity, but I did not measure each branch with a micrometer before cutting. The blades still look brand new except for worn paint on the edges, so I did not hit metal or anything like that either.
I was using a 3ah Lithium HP battery - maybe this tool was designed for the old NiCad batteries, without enough power to strip out the tool.
I attempted to warranty it (the first I've had to claim) but was turned off by the convoluted process compared to other brands. I decided to eat the cost, take it apart, and share the results.

Easy to Use but Not as Durable as Hoped
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this combo and an edger to keep up our small lawn. Used the shrubber and Trimmer most. The Trimmer got partially cocked and jammed. The blades were damaged and could not be removed. So we bought a replacement unit. We were out of the 60 or 90 day warranty. Total time use of the unit about 2 hours. It isn't was tough as we expected.

So light and easy to use!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can no longer haul out the heavy, long extension cords and decided to purchase several RYOBI tools. I LOVE them! Easy to use, easy to put together, easy to maintain and easy to store. No more aching back. I have several smaller shrubs that I wanted a smaller tool for and it works perfectly. No back strain! I am a RYOBI fan!

I’ve had this for about 3 weeks and 4 mowings. This was perfect for my hedges and the tight corners my lawn mower and weed eater couldn’t get to. Switching from the shrubber to the shears is easy and it takes less than 2 min.
With a smaller 18v battery the balance is great and it runs forever!
I previously had a rechargeable pair of shears and the internal battery died after about 3 months. Being able to use any of the 18v batteries makes this perfect. This has exceeded my expectations!

This is a short-term review. I have used the grass shears and the trimmer and both have worked well using a 4Ah battery. The thickest stems that I've used the trimmer on were about 3/16" in diameter and they cut without a problem. So far the grass shears are working well without bending the grass between the blades like some others have reported. Changing cutters with only one wing nut is fast and easy and no tools are required. My only concern would be the plastic gears not holding up over time. I applied a small amount of Super Lube to the external gears since there was no lubrication from the factory. Before storage I spray the blades with a good coating of WD-40 to keep them clean and rust free, then store them in the provided covers.

Good for small plants
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am am member of the Lincoln County Garden Club NM. We maintain two public gardens and I needed a tool for dead heading and trimming. I believe this tool will last and I like the replaceable battery. The battery holds a charge through my entire work sessions. It is light weight enough to hold over my head to trim our arbor. I give 4 Stars because it won’t cut thicker stems.
