Apparently the material in the can was clumping. I would spray and it would only work for a few seconds. I would turn it upside to clear, try again, and it would clog. I took nozzles off of 3 different cans and it didn't work.

We appreciate you reaching out and sharing your experinece! Prior to each use, it is essential that Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer Spray is thoroughly shaken for a full minute. You also want to ensure that the can is being shaken often during application, as this will prevent the pigment from settling in the can. The nozzles can also be soaked in mineral spirits to ensure they are clean and free of any lodged pigment.

Not so good - Clean metal primer.
My first time using this product. Not a very good for bare metal application. Does not dry quickly - 8 hours. Had to remove and use a different product.

Let's talk about this! In ideal conditions, Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer Spray will dry enough to handle in 1-2 hours, however cooler temperatures or a heavier application will extend this time. The listed dry times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity. We also do not recommend applying this temperature when temperatures are below 50°F.

This primer was awful. After thoroughly shakened, it sprayed like water, failed to dry, then dripped off the bare metal. I will not purchase it again!

This is not what we expect to hear! For the best results, you want to ensure that Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer Spray is thoroughly shaken for a full minute before each use and shaken often during application. This will allow for the proper consistency. Applying two or more light coats a few minutes apart will also help avoid drips and runs. It is also essential that this product applied only when temperatures are between 50-90°F (1032°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying.

The paint came out of the can like white water wash. The 3 cans out of the 5 I bought were shaken well, and the ran all over the metal I was painting. I was not impressed.

Let's see what we can figure out, Bill. For best results using Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer, after vigorously shaking the can for at least one minute once the mixing ball begins to rattle, hold the can 10-16" from the surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface, keeping it in motion while spraying. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart until the desired coverage has been achieved. To avoid finger fatigue when spray-painting, Rust-Oleum Comfort Grip is an excellent option.

Always end up with an unusable can
Love the regular paint, but every time I use any rustoleum spray paint, its good for MAYBE one use, then it stops working, and that’s all. Clean the tip w/ solvent and air gun… it doesn’t matter. Push the tip down n nothing happens, like it’s out of aerosol and the can is still full. I throw away most of a can every time. Done wasting my time & money. It’s honestly ridiculous.

That is not what we like to hear, Jason! Prior to storing spray cans after use, we recommend wiping the tip of the nozzle clean; this will prevent clogging at the nozzle. While the can sits between uses, settling in the can will naturally occur. This can cause internal clogging to occur if the settled solids are not completely mixed prior to pressing the nozzle the next time the can is used. To prevent internal clogs, be sure to shake the can thoroughly prior to pressing the nozzle. Even pressing the nozzle once with the solids settled at the bottom can cause the internal dip tube to become partially or completely clogged inside the can, rendering it inoperable. If this occurs, you can always give us a call at 800-481-4785, and we will be happy to help with our satisfaction guarantee. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

Worst primer I have ever used
Do not buy this primer!! I would have left zero stars but it wouldn't allow me to. I have used all kinds of spray primer for the last 40 years from really cheap stuff to more expensive and this stuff by far is the worst. Nothing else has even come close to being this bad! If you apply the lightest coat, it runs. Good luck sanding out the runs because it refuses to sand. It just clogs up the sandpaper. Now I'm stuck having to use paint stripper to remove it.

This is not what we expect to hear! For the best results, we recommend applying several light coats of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer Spray, verses trying to achieve full coverage with one coat.
