When first used this will appear navy blue. I was a little taken aback and thought I needed to keep mixing it, but no it just goes on blue but will dry black. Will need multiple coats to cover a surface but make sure you let it dry completely before adding a new coat. If it is at all tacky your new coat will remove the paint from the surface.

Let's see what we can figure out. After Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint has been allowed to dry for three days, the surface must be conditioned by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and erase. This will leave a coat of chalk dust that will provide the best erasability. Wait 7 days after painting before wiping it down. Repeat conditioning step after cleaning. Chalk markers can be used on the surface, wipe with a damp cloth to remove the markings. Give us a call at 800-481-4785 so we can hear more about your application and try to make things right.

So much better than the spray variety. I coated the top of a desk I found that needed some TLC. It dries very uniformly and adhered to a plastic veneer desktop

Not sure yet
I’m not sure if I recommend or not. I’m on my second do-over and it’s almost an orange peel look I have to unfortunately get a second can because I’m out from all of this. I followed directions to a T. Maybe I’m just not that great at crafting. Lol

Thank you for reaching out, Krystal! The final texture of Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint will be dependent on the condition and texture of the surface it is being applied to. A foam roller can also be used to apply the product to help give a smoother finish if needed.

    Maybe just a bad can?
I’m hoping that I just had a bad can, because if not this paint was made for the depths of hell. I followed all directions on the can and made sure to use a quality roller. Paint was very runny and dripped everywhere…on the wall, on the floor, on me, on my hair, I think it might even be on the dog. Coverage is uneven on the first coat, and any attempts at fixing a spot while wet pulls the whole area off. I’m hoping the second layer will go on more easily and I can update this review.

That is not what we like to hear, Kiki! If the paint seemed thinner than expected, be sure to thoroughly mix the contents, taking care to scrape the sides and bottom to achieve an even mix. Settling can naturally occur over time, leaving the paint thin prior to mixing. If you have any questions about this application, please give us a call at 800-481-4785, and we will be happy to help! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

This product compared well to the BM higher end product and gave us outdoor chalkboards with good tooth. Teachers were happy with the chalkboard finish. Now we have to see how they hold up to Bay Area fog.

It seems to be very good. I had not heard of it before until my granddaughter said she would like it on a wall in her bedroom.
