Customer Reviews for Simpson Strong-Tie E-Z Spike Black Powder-Coated Post- Base Spike for 4x4 Nominal Lumber

Purchased the Simpson Strong-Tie E-Z Spike Post Spike to replace a different brand I purchased from HD several years ago. The post is used to hold a hose bracket. The old brand is gray in color; uses bolts on one corner of the 4x4 collar to tighten around the post. The spike portion of the old one remained sold but the collar portion, which is above ground level, rusted and broke off the spike portion. This Simpson appears to be a thicker gauge steel with a better coating. Time will tell.

There should be at least one pre-drilled hole on each side. Also, there should be weep holes in the bottom for drainage of any water that should come in contact with the wood 4x4.

Was easy to install except when trying to get the 4x4 out after hammering it in.I used a short piece of wood to get it installed and that buried itself into the cross that is at the bottom of the boxed end

Trying this spike out versus digging and concrete of a post. Not used yet - waiting for cooler weather

Decent quality but not a great design (surprising for a Simpson product). No good way to adjust plumb of post using this spike. I’ve used other that allowed for this via a bolt in bottom of post areas, which is a much better design. I bought this only because that design wasn’t available, and it’s inferior to that adjustable design

Excellent product. The point pierced through 30 inches of dry soil quite easily using a sledge hammer.

Easy to install, holds post securely. I would definitely use again.

Used them to create a blackberry bush training web in my back yard. It also holds a support for my floral tree nearby. Easy to use Highly recommend

The spikes are super easy to install.

This spike worked well. I waited until after it rained to pound it in, which may have helped. There is some play between the spike and 4x4 post when you bolt the post in, so you have some adjustment if not level. It was easier than digging a hole, and also if my post needs replacing someday, I just have to unbolt it and install a new post.

These are very sturdy and your post can’t rot.

This is mighty. The tang is long. I have full confidence that it will last. The next time the mail truck hits it, I won’t lose anymore that four inches of post.

Don't get me wrong the unit is good and well built. But as I was driving in the ground it was twisting around. Also it was having to bust threw rock and although all three foot is in the ground it is real shaky. I love the concept. Just hope for some ideas how to help tighten it up in the ground.

Very heavy duty product, but west of I35 in the Austin Texas area is too rocky for the product.
