I bought this plane a few weeks ago with the intention of using it with a shooting board but the right side of the plane body is not square to the sole by a few thousands, not a large error but enough to cause a gap in the joint. The was a small burr on the right side top edge that magnified the problem, I easily removed the burr with a hand fileut it was still out of square. Other than the out of square condition this plane is a good buy for the money. The blade is hefty, came with a decent edge, required only minor work to get it razor sharp and flat on the back. The cap screw could be a little easier to grip, maybe a little taller. If not for the square problem I would have given it 5 stars. I may either try to exchange it or have the side machined square.

The Stanley #62 Sweetheart plane I received had the paint touched up in three locations. The blade was sharp, but needed a lot of tuning to get it to cut efficiently. I would not but this again, this is not the Stanley of the old days.

This plane definitely met my expectations. I initially tried the Tay Tools version but quickly returned it and gave this one a try. While I know it's not going to be at the level of a Veritas, it is well made and took very little effort to get this working fantastically. It needed minimal flattening and the iron took just a little work to get it razor sharp. Overall, I am very happy with this and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone wanting to get low angle jack.

Ultimately the plane met my expectations and I think it represents value for the investment. Initially, I had a bad experience, in that the first one shipped to me had clearly been a return and was unusable as it didn't even include the iron. Customer Service was excellent, though, and the replacement is as expected. I have not yet taken the time to tune it. I cleaned it, and tightened the tote, that's it. The only troublesome thing in that process was that some of the paint rubbed off during the light cleaning, and thus one star off. The sole is flat and square (some machine marks, but eventually those will take care of) and the iron was fine (though some tuning will make it better). It was easy to adjust and with just a few minutes of setup, it was taking full width, even, shavings off the edge of a 2x4. Not a rigorous test, but enough to know it will work as it should. I think it has good heft and that its easy to let momentum carry it forward, without being too heavy. It certainly lacks the refinement a Veritas, but is $125 cheaper, so is that really a reason to mark it down? In sum, I'm happy with it right out of the box. I'm equally sure that if I devote even a small amount of time to tuning it properly, I'll be very happy.

Great value for a new jack plane that didn't take too much time to set up. To get better, you'd have to spend another $100 or so, IMO.

Well packaged. Straight out of the box I marked the base and put it to the sandpaper. After only a couple of passes it was showing to be perfectly flat on the base and sides. +1 I took out the blade and it was plenty sharp. Honing was not necessary, and only took a few minutes work for my OCD self to be satisfied with it.+1 I don't need to add to the other long reviews to say this is an outstanding tool, because it is.

It is constructed well but I did not experience the same results as I read in the pre purchase reviews from other users. Perhaps I need more time to get the best out of this plane

I have used it twice without any honing or sharpening. I found it simple and intuitive to setup and adjust. The shavings are consistent and the resulting surface of the wood is shiny and smooth.

Bottom of plane was unusable due to a dent from being dropped. Side of plane was out of square with bottom. Unable to open throat all the way because sleeve under the front knob was undersized. 0 quality control.

This plane was great straight out of the box. Not much needed to have it ready for top performance. Is it a LV, or LN, no, but with a small amount of work, it performs just as well for half the price. Great plane. Sharp and smooth.

The handle needs to be tightened nearly every time I use it. And the blade seems to have rolled itself from use so the angle of the blade has changed, thus it doesn't cut as well. The mouth that's adjustable opens only a little, I'm thinking of taking it off so it's not right on the blade. I don't know if this plane can be customized for a better result.

The toe was a bit proud of the rest of the bed, nothing a little sanding didn't address. The tote and knob were also slightly loose, again, easily fixed. The "frog" was machined flat but a bit high, such that the cutting edge of the iron has to extend a bit farther into the mouth than I'd like. The mouth closes to 1/16", the sides are square to the bed, and except for the toe I mentioned above, the bed is flat. I'm upset that Stanley discontinued production of the replacement blades, but I think I have a plan to get around that. As far as the function goes, a few passes on some problematic white oak turned out perfect paper-thin shavings and flattened out some torn-out grain that my antique Stanley No. 4 (Type 7, if you're counting) was having trouble with. As for pine...it's like planing butter. I was making voluptuous curly shavings with just one hand pushing the tote.

Still need to fine tune the plane, but visual inspection shows that it is well made. Average Joe does not need to buy the more expensive planes that do not do anything more than this one.

Heirloom Quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great build quality and excellent performance. A must for furniture building and restoration. Nothing more satisfying than taking a well loved piece of furniture and restoring it using top shelf tools.

    Great fit, finish and effective.
Stanley has been making fine plans for over 100 years. The Sweetheart 62 is as fine a plane, right out of the box, as I have ever used. The plane blade was razor sharp and did not need any honing. Impressive. You could spend more for a low angle Jack plane, bur why would you? I got shavings on end grain and shavings on long grain thin enough to read through.

      Great low cost plane
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this plane a couple of months ago. The iron was sharp enough to use right out of the box but I like my blades scalpel sharp. Once I got the iron sharp and the plane set up properly I'm able to get full width super thin shavings consistantly. The No. 62 SweetHeart is just that.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this is the first plane I grab to do an flatting work. I used this to true up the joint for a wood welcome sign for my wedding. It cuts great straight out of the box and feels comfortable in the hands. I love this tool!

Iron was sharp and flat, required very little honing to develop a super sharp edge. Debth/skew adjustment is a bit sloppy, but it does the job. Great beginner plane and we'll worth the money. Easy to use and adjust. Cuts paper thin but will also take out aggressive shavings if you want.

Not Square, Hard to Set Blade Depth
I bought this plane about a year ago. This was my first hand plane so I didn't know what I was doing. It was a struggle to set the blade depth as the blade would slip back towards the handle. Well recently I've been getting into hand cut joinery and built myself a shooting board. This is when I realized my plane was 1/32 out of square as it would put an angled cut on my edge. Angling my blade as far over as possible gives me a better edge but it's still not square. I have had more issues with this plane than it's worth. This is more of a QC issue than anything.
