I had my handy man install our skylight and it look great and was able to open and close the window. Then a few days later we tried to open the skylight using the hook pole and the hook eye snapped off. I wish it was made of metal instead of plastic. I placed an order with the manufacturer for a new metal eye hook with a universal hinge, because HD won’t ship to my location for a small part. Hope this helps.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just had 2 solar skylights and solar shades installed as a replacement for existing older skylights. The difference is stark. The new skylights are clear and having the bonus of solar energy makes us feel good, knowing that we are at least helping the environment, even if it’s a small impact. Additionally the solar required no wiring which was really nice.

This venting skylight replaced a 100-year-old fixed skylight in my attic space. What a difference fresh air makes, not to mention that it is remote controlled. The space is so improved that I think I will finish it and make and additional room.

I replaced the original skylights with the solar powered fresh air skylights wnd WOW! It’s the first time since I purchased my home that my kitchen has been this bright, and now I can vent the windows when I cook to release the heat in there as well. This was part of my kitchen upgrade and I am so glad I went with them. I can’t believe how much light I was missing, because the old ones required the 10 ft poll to just open the shade, and neither I nor the previous owner had ever opened them.

So very happy with our new Solar Shade SkyLight. Totally blocks the sun and easy set up. I will be ordering more shades for my other skylights. No more tarps on the roof all summer long. Thank you Velux

We transformed a never-used dark den into the most inviting sun-filled room of the house. We used three solar powered venting skylights side by side with a shelf for all of my plants. It’s not yet painted or styled, but it already looks amazing.

These 2 units were purchased as equivalent sized replacement for older failed Velux units. The original units had wood clad interior, very nice looking. These have white vinyl interior trim, which is not explained in the description on line. However, they do look nice. They were not quite an exact replacement, and we did have to cut back the shingle roofing about an inch on all sides to accommodate the flange (deck mount). Also, the flashing kit isn't really designed for replacement, just for new installation, so we had to modify that application, but I'm confident it will work fine and has so far proved watertight in the recent rainstorms here in the PNW springtime.

We finally have the amazing solar powered "fresh air" skylights up and running and we couldn't be happier. We love everything about them. The remotes are great! They are smooth & quiet when operating which is great. Having the black out shades is a bonus on sunny or hot days. Being able to see the sky, birds, and the stars is divine. We love the rain as well so we can not wait for the rain this year. Overall, they brighten my day up literally and figuratively! Very satisfied and pleased. Thank you Velux!!

I purchased two of the solar powered skylights for our bathroom remodel. It added a depth of elegance sitting above the soaking tub.

We just had this skylight installed to replace an old leaking solar tube in our bonus room that isn’t connected to our central air. As soon as we opened it, all the hot air in the room got sucked out and a nice breeze came in its place. So happy with it, and now I want two more in my kitchen.

We purchased a home with these skylights 8 years ago. They are our favorite feature of our home. They were 30 years old and last year we had a massive hail storm that destroyed our roof. These skylights stood up against golf ball size hail and only the outside frames had any sign that we had a mass hail storm. There were still no leaks from these after 30 years of daily use. When we replaced the roof I decided to replace the skylights with the solar version and VELUX active. These have been in for a year now and we love them even more. I give my highest recommendation for this company and I so grateful for their products.

I really like these windows. I bought 2 and wish i could have put in 8. They allow a ton of light in and work smoothly. Tip - FOr the frim i used 1x material and planed it down to 1/2 to slip in like the sheetrock would. this was on a rafter roof. Also on a rafter roof install don't forget to drill the proper amount and size of holes above and below skylight so the roof still vents from the eve to the ridge. I think this is a problem for many skylight leaks that actually are condensation issues due to improper installation.

My contractor installed it for us and told us it was very easy to assemble. Also took his time to show us how to open the window when need it. Very happy to see how elegant they look.

JUST HAD IT INSTALLED. MY CONTRACTOR HAD NEVER INSTALLED A SKYLIGHT LET ALONE A VELUX SKYLIGHT. THE INSTALL WAS SIMPLE AND INSTRUCTIONS WERE EASY TO FOLLOW. YEARS AGO I PERSONALLY INSTALLED TWO OF THESE IN A PREVIOUS HOME AND REMEMBER THAT IT WAS FAIRLY EASY TO INSTALL AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY LEAKS. THIS IS WHY I DECIDED TO USE THESE AGAIN IN THIS HOME AND I AM GLAD I DID. ADDS A LOT OF LIGHT IN A DARK ROOM. MY ONLY REGRET WAS NOT GETTING THE AUTO CONTROLLED UNIT AND INSTALLING THEM. BUT THESE WILL WORK OUT WELL.

These things are great! Never thought blinds in our skylights would add so much to our home. Control with Phone APP Timer and wall switch.

Perfect. Yesterday evening, the wife went into the kitchen to shut the light off, then realized it was the skylight :)

First rate product. Flashing kit is very comprehensive. Up to 4:12 roof a competent DIYer could self install. Steeper than that, hire a specialist! Installation is pricey as many shingles must be removed/replaced. Assume that all shingles you remove will be damaged and need replaced with new to avoid surprises. Note that this unit is narrower than fixed lights which are made to fit rafters/trusses that are on 24" centers, so fillers are needed both sides of R.O.

I gave Velux customer service tech the serial # of old skylight , and he told me what new one i would need along with the flashing kit that went along with it . I am replacing the roof on my house , so i changed the skylight too.

I bought two, both missing remote control, called the home depot two weeks ago, they said that Manufacturer will send two remote control to my home, so far haven't received.noting any info.flowe up. The Skylight is good,5 star. Blind moves very quietly. The App set up my first skylight was quikly even dosen't have remote control, but got trouble for second one, it must through the remote control to connect. so I'm still waiting the remote control comes.

Went in easy, love the automatic shade that detects sunlight and closes.

Our home had one of these from prior owner. During renovation added second one. The light it allows into our expanded kitchen is great. Very well designed and flashing kit is exceptional. Velux also has great install video to confirm how to install. The most difficult part is removing shingles on existing roof carefully if you need to re-use them. Installing this window is not difficult for anyone with basic carpentry skills. I have done very major remodels to my homes and I found this to be designed extremely well. I also paid extra for glass with coating that keeps it cleaner and it is very noticeable compared to prior one I don't believe had it. I am generally skeptical of those claims but after a month of rains pollen it works. If you are putting it in during roof replacement this is so much easier. It was an easy install-quite operating system-low profile on my roof. I would and have recommended this product to my neighbors that have the same need to replace there 33 Year old skylights.

Great product. You will need two trim kits for the bottom. The flashing kit is well designed and makes installation easy. The skylight looks great, definitely get the laminated glass for the extra hundred dollars. I would recommend this product to everyone.

My handyman installed them without any question. Looks pretty.
