I bought the screen door and finally installed it. Seems to be working well so far. However, it took me much longer than expected (30 minutes) to complete the assembly. I would recommend that Weather Star provide a better installation manual with more detailed cutaway diagrams. This is probably the main reason why I didn't give a 5-star rating. I love the design of the screen door. Looks like it will continue to work for years. Although I already see some uneven waves on the mesh.

I love this screen door. It was easy to install and provides the ventilation, without bugs flying in, that I was looking for. I live in a senior apartment complex and two of my neighbors have also ordered the door since they saw mine.

Just installed two of these on our doors to back porch. Delivery to home arrived on-time, and while it looked as though one took a beating in transit, it was very well packed & damage free. Installation was easy - 1st one took ~40 minutes, 2nd took 20 (and 5+ of those minutes were the unpacking (written instructions ok, on-line video better - read & watch both before starting installation. Open & close very easy (love the auto slide opening), and like the ‘stripes’ on the screening to avoid walk-thru’s. Very happy so far (purchased the Larson over the Anderson due to the great reviews, and the HD special purchase price was fantastic! Hope they hold up, but that may be a follow-up review down the road!

We needed a new screen door to replace a twenty plus year-old aluminum swinging screen door on our back door. Prices for new aluminum swinging doors guided me to the more reasonably priced retractable doors. Chose this one because it includes a lifetime warranty to original purchaser. The door wasn't quite as simple to install as the videos imply, but wasn't overly challenging either. After a few days of adjusting from a metal swinging door to this slider, my wife and I are fans. We really like that, after getting the latching mechanism properly adjusted, the door opens and closes easily and disappears when opened. During our extended Texas summer months when the main door stays closed all of the time, we won't need to contend with operating an extra door any longer. We no longer have children or pets living with us, so we do not have some of the concerns other families might have about the screen fabric being accidentally pushed out of its track. Our grandkids did not have any problems learning and dealing with the new screen, so we are very pleased with our replacement door and recommend it to anyone in similar circumstances.

Nice screen door! Well built and easy to install. Had to extend door molding with 1 x 4 board as I expected. Once extended, install was a breeze. Really like the self retracting screen! Seems to be of good, strong quality. Liked the warranty on this piece. CAUTION: don't let pets push on the bottom of the screen as it will pull the screen out of its track as there isn't a hard edge on it. If there was, it wouldn't retract. If it does occur, CAREFULLY move the screen in and out several time to allow it to rewind correctly. The wrinkles will come out and look as it should. WOULD BUY IT AGAIN!

The installation was fine and it worked fine as well, for about one year. At about that point, the door started sticking. When we open the door now, 15 months later, it retracts to about 1 foot from fully open, then sticks and we have to fidget with it. It'll then stick more on bottom than top and the door gets crooked. It's an annoying hassle and we've stopped using it. For over $200, I was expecting a higher quality item that would last a couple years at least, but that's not what we got.

We just installed the door. The screen(mesh) keeps popping out of the rails. And sags. We close and open the door it pops back into place but a slight breeze pushes it out. Looks messy and not sure how many bugs will be able to find their way in through these holes. The oversized door (96”) is way too expensive to have this type of problems. I’d love expect something like this from a cheap $150-$200 , but paid close to $450 for it. Waiting on manufacturer to get back to us w some solution.

Good quality door. The only issue was that it isn't easy to snap together as the videos portray.

Beyond easy snap together. Expanded to my door no problem. The lock is really simple. Only concern is cats - top & bottom of the screen aren't attached to anything - can they push thru the bottom accidentally? Overall though, I would Highly recommend.

Nice quality, easy to install and it works well. I like that there is no "door" to get in your way.

First off I am writing the correct review for the correct product. You can absolutely put this on a sliding patio door if you have any building or engineering sense, just look to my photos for proof. Installation was not difficult however the plastic is something you should be mindful of. I had a small piece break off during my initial handling. As of now the broken piece does not affect or hinder the doors movement. The flaws of this door that I visibly notice after a few weeks of using this door.... The inside locking mechanism is a great idea but poorly executed. As you can see in my pics that all I have to do is place a finger at the bottom of the handle and lift up. That is enough to get it above the male portion of the locking mechanism which is already maxed out in height, so I will have to modify the door if I want the lock to actually work. Another flaw is the amount of mounting screws that the kit provides... 6 screws in total to hang your side pieces (3 per side, top, middle and bottom) is entirely not enough screws and not enough mounting points to firmly secure this to any door frame(in response to other reviews in regards to wind damage). So my advice to anyone purchasing this is to buy a couple extra screws that match up with the long ones in this kit. You might want an extra screw or two for the threshold kick plate as well. One thing anyone would want to do before assembling is to make sure that the top and bottom guide tracks don't have any sharp metal edges or burrs where the screen will pass through. It will hang up the movement of your screen door and the screen will catch. So just a quick couple passes with a file where the screen slides in and you'll be good. Overall this does what it says and works. Only you can decide the value on a product you purchase. I am only relaying my experience. My experience with this door is that it could be better and there is room for improvement but I would probably purchase again. Side note: to reframe my sliding door to accept this screen door, it cost me about $75 in extra materials and a little bit of more time making it ready for this door. Just an FYI

My brother bought and installed a competitor brand, liked the sliding door concept so much, decided to buy this one. Ugh, should have gone with the "other" brand. Installation was a breeze, style was just right, even liked the bands on the screen to identify it was there to avoid walking into it, but....the screen quickly decided to come undone from the canister, which caused the screen to roll-up within the canister basically rendering it inoperative. Can't even get it to roll-up/retract now... Wish there were help....

This is our second door. The first one has lasted for several years and we are very happy. (It is on a door that doesn't see a lot of activity, and is used by one or two adults only.) So we got a second one. HUGELY disappointed. The second installation is on an active door. It hasn't lasted a month. The bottom of the screen is tearing and folding up on retraction. We even uninstalled it, and tried to repair. The screen is attached to the roller with a flimsy adhesive. Once it starts coming apart, it's gone, it will always be trouble. And once it starts to tear, it just keeps going. If you have an active door, kids, or pets - this probably isn't your solution. We can't recommend this product.

In our previous house we had a retractable screen door that was hard to install but it worked, mostly. Same price as this one but several years ago. I was skeptical about this one but it installed and worked as described. A couple of details: I did not have to shorten the rails my opening was 32" and it fit perfectly. Nothing unusual about the sill or trim. I studied the instructions and found only one part a little unclear and that is installing the rail on the screen retractor side. A close up picture showing how you pull the screen out and line it up inside the rail to then push in the rail would help. Other than that it took about an hour by myself. One thing I did different was not install the screws on the top of the added sill as suggested. Instead I used only 2 vs 4 screws and installed them at each end of the sill where they would get covered by the sliding rubber inserts you use to fill any gaps on the end. If you do that make sure you put the screw at the bottom row of the rail otherwise the rubber piece won't slide over it. One caveat is we have no pets or kids which you obviously have to consider since the screen is only tucked in at the bottom. Otherwise I expect/hope this will last a long time. I think it will.

Anyone that has come to my house and seen my new screen, loves it! Of course I have to tell them how easy it is to install, also I did it myself! Two of my friends have already gone to Home Depot to purchase for their home also.

Ordered screen on line had shipped to store only option avail to me where I live. Screen was in perfect shape. Easily installed in 15 min I’m a single mom in her 40’s. Once pieces are snapped together at the four corners there are 4 screws that hold it up. I gave screen 4 stars instead of five for color not being as perceived, was hoping for a richer dark bittersweet chocolate or dark molasses this is milk chocolate at best fairly milky colored. Also had an incident of the screen when fully extended pull off of the extension rod which appears to be held in place by a sticky double sided tape or strip of sticky material it was easily pressed back down and has stayed. I’ve had three retractable screens in 22 years and this is by far the best and easiest installed one I’ve ever owned. Quality overall seems decent it has a little locking mechanism which is just basically a little loop of plastic that slides over the latch to keep it from moving. Screen is either fully open or closed no way to leave it cracked a bit for pets to go in and out. I purchased special retractable screen decals on line separately as the two stripes the screen comes with are not adequate for my household ie 2 adult children and four animals. I also place a baby gate In front to keep my escape artists in ;-). Screen frame is all metal the only plastic is the locking mechanism and the brackets at the four corners of screen. All in all I’m very happy with the make of screen just wish color was richer brown. I opted to not install the expanding threshold plate as I have no overhang on my house and don’t want water getting under existing threshold through screw holes which happened in the past rotting my doorframe etc. I toyed with using alien tape to hold it down still may do that but so far not having it has worked out fine for us. I used a tiny bit of caulk on mounting screws to seal them well. Due to angle of threshold and how well screen fits I’m concerned it will hold water in rainy season may take down in wet months.

Total waste of money. Do yourself a favor and invest in a stronger storm. This cracked at the bottom first then stopped retracting altogether.

Great design. Love that you can see my door and this is just a frame addition for when I want breeze. Simple install. All the neighbors are wowd by it. I like the lines in the screen as otherwise it’s very clear. I got brown to go with my mahogany door and it blends very well. The only thing I’m confused by is if the screen is supposed to come out from the frame or if it should have been adhered better. I need to look that up otherwise currently it appears to be ripped at the top and bottom. A windy day may have gotten it or it’s just the design. Highly recommend but the top and bottom is why I gave it 4 stars.

This screen door is one of my favorite Purchases this year. It took about 45 minutes to install. I did most of the assembly alone and I don’t know that I could’ve done the installation alone, without the help from my husband. I held the frame level while he screwed it into our door jamb. The sill was a little challenging to assemble, but was necessary for a good aesthetic. We had to use a scrap piece of wood at the end of the sill that we used a hammer to hammer onto until the sill slid on. The screen itself is great and when we walk past the front door it’s so clear to look through, it looks like there’s no screen there at all. It gave us a fright in the beginning because each time we walked past the front door we thought it was wide open. There are little strips placed at thirds horizontally on the screen to help you see that there’s a screen there. Nevertheless our dog walked into the screen because she didn’t see it. The screen opens and close this very easily and locks too. Having a screen door that retracts so that people can see our front door is very appealing because it doesnt interfere with the aesthetic of the house. From a distance you can’t even tell that there is a screen door frame; it blends in with your trim. I love this screen!!

This gets very little use in my house in Florida. so I expected several years out of it at least but it didn't even go to before it started peeling back at the part that slides out. The screen peeled away from the frame so I called for help and they wouldn't help me without a receipt. Oh well. Save your receipt and be prepared to get a new cartridge from the manufacturer after a while. I rarely leave negative reviews but I felt I needed to do this share with everybody else out there.

Very simple install with only four screws. It was a slight bit shorter than my opening so I installed a piece of trim on the bottom side of frame header. There is about a 1" frame on the bottom so I used a piece of clamshell molding and coped out a tracing of the two corner pieces of the frame and used that as a threshold to minimize tripping risk. Despite a shaded stripe printed into the screen, I also taped a neatly squared piece of gorilla tape to the screen at about 5" high to prevent people from failing to see the screen and kicking it in, which I guarantied my wife would happen sooner or later, probably sooner (happened a week ago to our neighbor on their retractable) .

I followed the instructions, and this made for easy installation.

Love my new screen door! It looks amazing on and is just what I wanted.

Easy to install. I like that it's retractable and pretty much disappears when it's not needed, and the couple of little lines on the screen that help to show that its closed so you don't walk through it. Seems sturdy. Upon arrival, there was a small piece of plastic lying in the box that looked like it had broken off from somewhere, but I can't find where it came from. All in all, great retractable screen door. I would recommend.

Was skeptical, but worked out to be perfect. Hope the frame and mesh withstand test of time. Absolutely satisfied.

Purchasing this retractable door has been one of the best decisions we have made. The installation was simple and the light it has provided to our entrance is Fantastic! We don’t have to worry about flies or insects coming in just fresh air. It’s allowed us to cut down on our AC usage. Our neighbors love it as much as we do.
