I’ve been using this product for over 10 years. It never disappoints me. It always brings out the beauty in all types of wood. I work on old furniture and also build furniture out of reclaimed wood. I have not found another product that compares. Love it! It’s the best!

great product
We use this product as a prefinish prior to final sanding and varnishing. It seems to raise the grain slightly while stabilizing the wood and provides a ready to finish surface after sanding.

Do not buy this
This product ruined my floors. They look horrible. I contacted Rustolum, the company that makes it. They refused to help me. They are a billion $ company and they should take responsibility to fix this. They caused it because their wasproduct did not work as advertised.

Something is amiss here! Our Zinsser SealCoat Universal Sanding Sealer is a natural, wax-free shellac product, designed to seal hardwood floors prior to applying a polyurethane protective finish. Shellac has a natural, amber hue, that will deepen as more coats are applied. With a typical floor application, one coat of SealCoat is applied, then the floor should be sanded with 120 or finer grit sandpaper prior to applying polyurethane. If the floor color is darker than desired after applying the SealCoat, it may be sanded and removed from the wood completely, and a water-based polyurethane such as our Varathane Water-Based Floor Finish Polyurethane may be used directly on the wood. Keep in mind that while water-based polyurethanes offer crystal clear finishes that will not alter the color of the wood, these finishes may cause grain raise when applied directly to wood. If grain raise occurs, we recommend sanding the polyurethane smooth using 220-320 grit sandpaper, then applying the next coat. Repeat the application and sanding process until a minimum of 4 coats are applied, and the surface is smooth and even. The product description says "matte", but this isn't indicated on the label, and in fact the material has high gloss. This is misleading.

That doesn't sound right. Make sure that you're thoroughly mixing the can of Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye SealCoat to disperse the flattening agents. This product should provide a matte finish. If you're not applying another product on top, you can mix the product well and then reapply another coat. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Would not seal white oak or red oak floors ,the product was easy to apply and dried very fast but the oils in the oak kept coming through, would recommend for pine wood not oak

Thank you for sharing your experience using our Zinsser SealCoat Universal Sanding Sealer uses shellac resin to seal wood prior to applying a polyurethane or other finish. I am a professional refinisher and I use the seal coat sanding sealer as a base coat for my final finishes. SealCoat provides a protective surface that penetrates and seals, easily sands that provides a smooth surface. Two coats of sealer with a light sanding between each coat now allows your final finishing to be applied. Subsequent coats of finish rather applied with spray, brush or roller will go on smoothly with less effort and better coverage than if applied without the sealer.

I use this product to seal MDF that I’m ripped...
I use this product to seal MDF that I’m ripped into custom trim. Seal Coat is thin, penetrates the MDF well and dries quickly. After dry, sand well then paint with latex paint. Seal Coat prevents water, or waterbased paints, from swelling the MDF. Great sealer for all wood.

This is a great product for a truly natural finish rather than a thick coat alternative. Cut it with 50% alcohol and watch the deep penetration with a 5 minute dry time. Finish with paste wax for a beautiful finish.

My main concern was that the product was not outdated...
My main concern was that the product was not outdated since it's an organic product and has a shelf life. It was only 6 months old. I was satisfied of it's quality and price.

superior enhancement of woods beauty.
If you want to make wood look GREAT try this product. It really makes the grain POP I use it all the time on maple to make it interesting. ! I use 3 or 4 coats - min. If you are worried about it scratching ... or if alcohol will be used near it, cover it with a coat of polly when you are finished. Extremely easy to touch up. Much easier then any other product ... but it IS and REMAINS soluble in alcohol.
This is pure wax-free shellac and you can put ANYTHING over it or use it as the final finish.

Shellac Sealer undercoat.
I sprayed two coats of the sealer under a water based topcoat, on poplar kitchen cabinets. I had real good results, considering my inexperience.
