Very nice product with a deep amber color as applied to my hardwood pine floor. Do not use a roller when applying the product as the overlap of roller marks shows through when dry. A fine bristle brush works the best. Sand between coats with 150 grit sand paper and you end up with a great finish.

When you need a seal coat on bare wood, after stain or other prep work, one coat of shellac does the job. Choose Amber or White depending on your choice. Add a finish coat of varnish and you have a beautiful finish.

Great product
Always great to use. I do wish stores would stock the amber color in the gallon size. Absolutely would recommend using it to others

Really good stuff...
If I were to award this product a fifth star Zinnser would have to remove the wax from the product. I give its sister product SealCoat five stars for that reason and for having a decent shelf life. However, I still use the amber under lacquer without any problems. Mostly, I use it to "warm up" whatever wood I'm using as it kisses the wood with just the right amount of amber while allowing the wood's grain and character to shine through. As a finish by itself it must be understood that it is susceptible to heat and moisture. Therefore, NEVER use it for a table top or any surface that sees a whole lot of use unless you do as I do and topcoat with varnish or poly. Knowing that, you can't go wrong with this product. By the way, it's probably the most forgiving finish to apply too. If you make a booboo, just slather on some denatured alcohol, wipe it off and try again. Also, spraying it is a cinch even with a cheapo HVLP sprayer. Just cut your mixture about 1:10 of alcohol to shellac and spray away.

Works Great Amber Shellac Traditional Finish
I have a 95 year of old house. My goal was to install a new stair railing and match it to the rest of the wood. My house is full of aged gum wood trim. The Amber Shellac Traditional Finish on the new railing made the railing match the rest of the house. Easy to work with,

Amber shellac
This is a great product that we used to refinish 100 year old fir floors. 50/50 mix with denatured alcohol and wow! What a finish! Wax was applied on top of shellac, back to original like condition

Amber Shellac
I have been a professional painter for over 24 yrs, I manage large projects. I also like building furniture on my off time. I can tell you how undervalued this Amber Shellac is. Note if you do pick some up remember your denatured alcohol for clean up!

Fast repair on old finish
This shellac is a good choice to match old amber shellac surfaces when doing repairs or touch ups on previously shellac'ed surfaces. I had to repair some scratches on a carved mahogany wall decoration that was about 60 years old and this shellac was used to cover the sanded surfaces after the scratches were removed. It matched pretty well and it was very easy to apply dried quickly allowing for recoats in just a few hours.

This product is a pleasure to use.
This shellac spreads easily and dries quickly. I have used it on many projects. It seals end grain (best to use the clear if painting or staining is required) and provides a very nice low luster finish. I have not tested it for compatibility with urethane top coat. It is not suitable for damp, outdoor, or wet environments, but it is a great solution where a quick and easy finish is required. Drying time is very fast and does not attract dust while drying. I apply it outside for safety reasons and have been pleased with the wide temperature range that it can tolerate while drying.

Good product
I always keep a can of Clear and Amber shellac on hand. Great for sealing surfaces, and dries quickly. I wait about 30 min, and then sand with some steel wool, vacuum off dust, and then another coat. Sand again, dust off, and then apply whatever coat I want (usually Helmsman Urethane). That takes a day to dry. Viola a surface that can stand up to almost anything. Oh, one final thing, you need to use Alcohol to clean brushes.

I have used this particular finish many times on everything from picture frames and shelves to music studio desks. An absolute "WOW" factor of a finish on all types of wood.

Very good product that saved me time!!!
I live in a 60 year old home. I was doing some remodeling and was replacing door casing. I was at HD and was looking at stain to try and color match existing wood trim in room. A HD employee asked if I could use some help and he pointed me to the Amber Shellac. The color was a perfect match and I did not have to poly urethane after it was on because this product has its own protective finish! Two step process finished with one step!
