Q:Can't find how to edit my review, so commenting here. After 2 seasons of use 24/7 I have further observations and have dropped my rating from 4 to 3 stars. The most problematic one is that the float showing the water tank level is so short that it only moves for about the last gallon of water added. That means when it's at its lowest point you could either have 2+ gallons left or it could be empty. The only way to know it's empty is if it's running non-stop and the humidity is 5% below your set point. I finally had to tape something solid over the power button so the cat won't turn it off. Still haven't found a way to clean the fan blades. It does keep my house well humidified, but I've got to check it and refill it at least twice a day and keep a towel nearby to clean up splashes.

Q:Can anyone help me understand how loud this unit is, in comparison to some other common noise to say, a portable AC unit at home depot that sounds like vending machine exhaust or a loud vacuum (what I imagine to be the loudest) and a single room table humidifier that sounds like a quiet nebulizer whispering with the occasional water drip (what I imagine to be the quietest)?

A:  Hello, BreM! On the higher fan setting, some liken the sound to a box fan. The decibels levels on this humidifier are 40 on low and 68 on high. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service Center at 1-800-547-3888, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 to 5:30 CST. Thanks! -Melissa, AIRCARE

A:  I would say on its highest setting about the same noise level as your average window air conditioning unit.

A:  No. It is evaporative. A fan runs to allow moisture into the air.

A:  Hi, Norma. Yes, the humidifier should work for your setup. Local humidity levels in your area and the physical location of the humidifier can affect coverage. We recommend centrally locating the humidifier in your home to achieve the best reach. Our square footage estimates are based on homes with tight construction. Older homes, or those with poor insulation or cracks, may have a smaller coverage area. I hope this helps. Thanks. - Sydney, Essick Air Products

A:  I bought one of these a couple years ago. Yes, you can use it where you want, however, it is not easy to control the correct humidity. I have switched to smaller units in the house. I have 2785 sq. ft and I use three smaller units that are much more efficient at controlling the correct humidity.

A:  Yes it can, as this unit covers 2,400sqft., and you have 700sqft. If you have only 700sqft or even 1000, you might want to look at something smaller and more convenient as this will save space and money in the long run. If you do have over 1200sqft I would get this unit or something similar to it so you are not having to use power all day as this will get this job done fast in cleaning the air and humidifying it.

A:  If you've got a ceiling fan that will help distribute the moisture better. Set it so it pulls air up from the floor if you can and that will easily mix the air but not cool the room if you need it in the winter.

Q:Excuse my ignorance, but how does a portable unit humidify 2400 sf of space, with walls, doors... where do you put it to do that? I would assume the only way is to have it connected to the furnace.

A:  Not very well. I have an open concept and in the dining room (where the unit is kept) the humidity is high, while 30 feet away in the living room the humidity drops 30%.

A:  Placing the humidifier in the most centrally located room in your home (typically the living room) allows the humidity to spread throughout your home. It's water vapor, so it spreads easily. Placing the unit near your intake also helps your cooling/heating system to spread the moisture around. Our square footage estimates are based on homes with tight construction. Older homes, or those with poor insulation or cracks, may have a smaller coverage area. I hope this helps. A:  Nah...ain't buyin' it. There's no way to "centrally" locate anything in my house. Perhaps if it were a 2400 sf loft without walls that reached the ceiling. Thanks for the attempt though.

A:  Hello, Your float is not connecting to the micro-switch that turns the fan on. If you pick the top portion of the humidifier up and place it back down on the base, that should fix the problem. Try to make sure that you place it down as straight as possible and ensure that it is not hung up and any of the corners. If you continue to experience difficulties with your humidifier, our company has very qualified Customer Service Representatives who can assist you with some troubleshooting.
