Q:How much weight will the beam support for a pendant light?

Answer This Question
A: Thanks for your inquiry. As always follow your local building and fire codes and the light manufacturer's recommended clearances. This Faux wood beam is for decorative purposes only - it is not weight bearing since it is made of High Density Polyurethane. All recessed lighting needs to be fastened internally. Normally wood blocks will need to be fastened to the ceiling and then the light fixtures fastened to the wood block to reach the surface of the faux beam. Make sure the blocks of wood or shims will fit inside the hollow portion of the faux wood beam. Once the wood bocks and fixture is secured, the faux beam will go over the wood block and screwed from each side to hold it. Wood blocks are recommended about every 3 feet.

Q:We have a ?buttered? ceiling in our room. Is it recommended to smooth the surface down prior to installing the beams or will they contour to the shackled ceiling?

Answer This Question
A: Not sure how severe the buttered ceiling is but the gaps will show regardless. If you want the look of a beam I would recommend smoothing them out. They smooth out easy enough but it is messy. If you want the look of a beam it is worth the time to do it.

A: Thanks for your inquiry. It is best when the ceiling is completely flush to accept the faux beam. However, If it is not, it can be still be fastened via the wood blocks to the ceiling but any gaps viewable will need to be filled which is a lot of work.
