A: That is a good question...one I couldn’t answer without going out to look. If you don’t lock it the door to that compartment will not stay closed. Unlike the top opening, it does not have a magnetic catch.

A: Hello, the gauge of the steel varies on the mailbox - the body is constructed of 23 gauge galvanized steel, while the door is constructed of 20 and 17 gauge galvanized steel. The mailbox handle is cast aluminum. Thanks for reaching out!

A: All mailboxes approved by the US Postmaster General must meet that requirement. The washboard bottom is intended to aid in this should water enter or condensation form.
