Q:I have a Nutone 8663NLPL and the fan is not working. Want to replace the motor and fan unit with something quieter. Less than 3.5 sones, like 2 sones or less. What are my options?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Rick, Thank you for question on the 8663RP unit. Your 8663NLP model is an obsolete one and is no longer available. We do not offer an upgrade kit for this model and the motor itself is obsolete with no replacement or substitution. The 8663RP would be the closest replacement we have to offer.

Q:hello. I just installed this 2 weeks ago. the lights work but the fan doesn't clear anything out of the room. the bathroom isn't that large at all, this fan should be more than adequate for the room size. mirror and walls are coated in condensation. I hear the fan running, just not sucking anything out. even with the window opened for fresh air, nothing. and we do not take long showers. thoughts? thank you!

        Answer This Question

A:  From my experience this fan is not meant for a very large room. All I could suggest is to check the vent flap in the duct work to see if it is opening properly.

        by|Apr 21, 2021

A:  Thank you for reaching out to us. The 8663RP is a 100CFM unit and should be able to remove moisture and odors in a timely manner. There will always be some condensation, however, you may want to to check the line . . . could there be any obstruction in the duct? Also, you may to be certain that the roof/wall cap is opening outside . . . could it be stuck? And lastly, how long is the duct from the fan to the outside? These are simple issues that possibly you or a handy person can check. If you have further technical or installation questions, please contact our Broan-NuTone Technical Support Department at 1-888-336-6151 between 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM (EST) Monday-Friday.

Q:I have an existing light and fan that needs replacement. This light and fan seems to vent directly up. it looks like this product vents to the side. Is this correct and if so can it be modified to vent directly up.

A:  The 8663RP has a duct on the side of the metal housing. This can not be changed. If you have a vertical discharge fan, it is might be possible to use with a transition piece. Pleae clal our Technical Support Deaprtment at 888-336-6151. Thanks.

A:  The unit has a side exhaust flap but typically must be connected to flexible vent hose anyways. The hose can be directed up or whichever direction needed. There should be room in the space above the existing unit between joists

A:  This grille and lens cover must be pulled down (carefully). The grille is held in place with two (tight) springs. Once you gently, but firmly, pull down you can tilt it to one side and remove the bulb. Please be sure to to turn the power OFF before you start.

A:  Get your fingernails of both hands under the edge between the ceiling and the fixture and gently but firmly pull down on the entire face of the fixture. There are wire metal springy brackets that slide into openings to hold the face of the fixture to the base of it.

A:  The glass cover and surrounding plastic is held to the ceiling with metal spring retainers. Just pull down on the edges of the plastic to pull away from the ceiling. You can squeeze one of the retainers to allow it to hang down from the other. You should have full access to the bulbs. Just squeeze the retainer to put back in and press the cover back up to the ceiling.
