Q:Are these tiles fire retardant?

Answer This Question

A:  No

by|Apr 1, 2022

A:  Fire regulations are very precise; here 3 important facts about all Ceilume Ceiling Tiles 1) They are Class A Fire Rated which refers to the smoke production and flame spread. Once a flame is removed from the tiles, they will stop burning 2) They are approved for installation beneath sprinkler heads as a "drop out" ceiling tile 3) They can not be used as part of a 1 hour or 2 hour fire rated assembly designed to act as a fire barrier. If you have any other fire or life safety questions, please give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654.

      Answer This Question

A:  It doesn’t appear designed to adhere directly. I’d probably look for something designed specifically for that

      by|Mar 2, 2022

A:  The tiles have a lip on all edges so probably would not directly adhere unless you trimmed them. They can be cut with ordinary scissors.

Q:I have roll fiberglass insulation above the grid. Will the weight cause these thin tiles to bow?

                Answer This Question

A:  these tiles are very thin.  They look great but do not really support any weight on their own.  I would recommend the tiles but anything above them need to be supported by something other then the tile itself.

A:  The Stratford 2x2 White Ceiling tiles are made to hold Ceilume's Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation (2'x2'x2") without sagging. If you have R15 insulation that is roughly 3.5" thick and you orient the insulation perpendicular to the main runners of your ceiling grid, you would be fine since the majority of the insulation's weight is carried by the ceiling grid. We would not recommend installing anything thicker on top of the Stratford.

A:  The panels are thin, so it will bow if the weight will be resting on top of the tiles. But if the insulation is secured to rafters you should be fine. The look of these tiles are amazing once installed.

A:  As thin as these things are, I would personally not risk that.

                          by|Mar 22, 2022

A:  Ceilume would not recommend using any of our products in such close proximity to your copper heating pipes at 180° F. Even though the pipe would be above the tiles, the heat would easily travel the 1-2" gap and cause the tiles to deform.

A:  We took our old ceiling tiles and put them on top of these. You can't see the old ones and they help to hold the new ones in place. Also, they help with sound dampening.

A:  Ceilume's Stratford Ceiling tiles are made from a thin rigid vinyl and are designed to work with standard 1" or 15/16' ceiling grid. For most installations there is no cause for concern with tiles moving or fluttering during changes in air pressure (from closing a door or hvac systems turning on and off). Where this might be an issue is in small spaces with only one entrance door such as a small office or laundry room. If this is an issue, HomeDepot.com sells a variety of ceiling clips that will hold the tiles in place. You can view the clips here: https://www.homedepot.com/s/ceiling%2520tile%2520hold%2520down%2520clips?NCNI-5 If you have any questions, please contact Ceilume at 888-533-1995. Answer This Question

A:  Stratford Ceiling Tiles have an NRC of .25. Because they are relatively thin, they allow sound to pass through them instead of reflecting the noise. Once sound passes through them, it should be absorbed by whatever material is behind them. If you've left your old ceiling in place, then there should be very little difference in sound within the space. Please give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654 to discuss what other changes you may have made that are effecting the sound within the space.

A:  I would not go below 6 feet. It's a little flimsy and I would be afraid of melting.

A:  I would say no. This is a plastic item, and quite thin. Looks great in a dropped ceiling. However I believe it would be a fire hazard.

A:  I would ask Ceilume (1-800-557-0654), the manufacturer, they were very happy to talk with me on my basement install and offered me a free sample to try. I'd say you can put the sample a few feet away and cook some bacon and see how easy it is to clean off, but my gut instinct is this would work great, you could pop it out and put it in the bathtub and clean it really thoroughly. The feather light are very flimsy, which makes popping them in and out of the grid easier, but they have a stiffer version if you are worried about the heat rising from the cook surface or repeated scrubbings, but Ceilume can probably advise.

A:  No, I don’t think this would be wise. The tiles are nice, but they are very thin, somewhat flimsy and might be difficult o clean without removing them.

A:  As a general rule, Ceilume Ceiling Tiles and Panels will not be affected by ceiling level temperatures up to 120 F; in some installations involving halogen lights, metal heat registers, and radiant heat sources (wood stoves, kitchen ovens, etc.), localized ceiling and ceiling tile temperatures can be much higher than anticipated. Ceilume would not recommend installing the Stratford tile above your stove.
