Q:Is PVC pipe UV resistant?
by|Mar 16, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  A two-year study was undertaken to quantify the effects of UV radiation on the properties of PVC pipe. The study found that exposure to UV radiation results in a change in the pipe’s surface color and a reduction in impact strength. Other properties such as tensile strength (pressure rating) and modulus of elasticity (pipe stiffness) are not adversely affected.

A:  PVC SCH 40 systems manufactured by Charlotte meet the requirements of NSF61 for drinking water. However, PVC is not allowed by model plumbing codes for hot and cold-water distribution inside of a building.
