A: I don't know the exact spec on this. However, as long as you follow their instructions and attach your bolts to studs & add all the support brackets (if you have drawers), I can tell you that an adult male of average build can do a pullup on the bars. (That was our "test".) Once completed, it holds all our clothing, plus, it has transformed our closet into a beautiful area. We love it and are quite satisfied. We're thinking of doing the same thing to other closets!

Q:I would like to use the middle section for long hanging items. Is the highest shelf shown in that section required for stability? I would rather move it to the very top, above the rod, if possible.

A: My husband said you can cut the rods with a hack saw. They are strong, but they are easy to cut.

A: I ended up not using one of the white end boards and cut the rods to fit. The "extra" board was put on top of the unit and I use it as a shelf.
