Q:I'm using rusty corrugated barn metal to decorate the interior of my garage. Will penetrol seal this so rust won't transfer to clothing? And once applied is it a permanent finish or does it need to be reapplied with some frequency?

A: Penetrol is great for using on rusty furniture etc. to prevent rust growth but also to keep from getting on clothes. BUT it does darken the rust and adds a little sheen so I would be careful on something like this to make sure you like the way it looks.

Answer This Question
A: This product will aid in adhesion, but can’t be used in a Xylene based primer.
by|Apr 26, 2022
A: I only have experience with standard oil based paints. It helps the paint flow and level to eliminate (not completely) brush strokes. The paint will remain wet a bit longer and that is how it levels, and it has not cracked. Two ounces in a half gallon will yield results. But Xylene? Nasty stuff and I try to avoid working with that. Dunno.
