Q:Replaced my old filter with this GE filter recently. Every since I changed the filter, the water coming out of the faucet has a funny, unpleasant taste to it that it never had before with the prior filter. Is this typical?

Answer This Question
A: Hi there - we're sorry to hear that your filter's taste has not fully met your expectations. Our filters do not add any taste to the water, as they only reduce the amount of chlorine and other contaminants from the water, depending on which filter cartridges you have. The absence of these minerals and chemicals is what often causes the tap water to taste different, and it is considered normal. -- We hope this response was helpful, and please let us know if we can help with anything else. Take care. - Pablo@GEA

A: You should be able to unscrew the bowl and replace a cartridge filter. Make sure you find a compatible filter for that make and model.

Answer This Question
A: Depends on how much water you use. Averages six months, longer if there are only 1 or 2 living in the house and water usage is less.
by|Aug 25, 2020
A: 6 months depending on usage.
by|Nov 13, 2020
A: They recommend every 6 months, but I do mine once a year.
by|Aug 26, 2020
A: I change it every 4 months but it is good for 6 months. It is on a drinking water line only.
We have city water and it is very safe but notice the water out of the filter is better. Put a notice in your calendar to change it and your smoke detector battery at the same time. Keep one on hand.

Q:Does it filter down to 5 micron or somewhere between 5-15 micron? And how come the answer to how many microns here mentions even lower number? May be specifications are mixed up? And why does the specifications section of this product have the details?

A: Several conditions will effect the filtration. Example, the water pressure. it may be higher or lower causing the flow to be faster or slower. The type of water, soft or hard. there are many examples, so to give a + or - is a industry standard. Nothing is 100% if you want a better filtration, use reverse osmosis with several filters. and ultra violate light. i use this filter before my reverse osmosis system to not make it work hard i have a lot of old pipes and when the main is flushed it sends contamination so i use the above to catch the bulk. i also use this filter to keep my humidifier clog free. [it has a needle valve to regulate the water flow]

A: Hi Frank - Thanks for considering GE Model # FXUVC! This model filters down to 0.5 microns. The lower the microns, the more contaminants are caught and reduced. This information is listed under Product Overview. A website correction request will be sent to The Home Depot. We apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this has caused.
