Q:is it compatible with skybell HD?
by|Jan 15, 2022

Answer This Question
A: Hello,
We are not aware of any reason that this would not work with the SkyBell. The transformer in this kit is 16 volts and 10 VA (watts) which should be exactly what the SkyBell needs.

Q:Does Hampton Bay sell any non-wired,
mechanical, simply door bell chime ringers? I have a 1972 mobilehome, with no outlets nearby to tap into the electrical?

Answer This Question
A: Doubtful. But if you don't care to pull wire, you can get a radio-controlled door bell; the button uses batteries.

A: These would be a great option for you. It is battery.

Answer This Question
A: I assume 1

A: One should suffice. Except during the brief interval when a doorbell is actually ringing, the devices do not draw much power. The Nest manual should be consulted for details.

Q:what gauge wire is bell wire?
by|Jan 15, 2021

Answer This Question
A: The chime has 14 gauge wire. For the wires going to the doorbell it can be anything between 16 gauge to 24 guage
by|Jul 27, 2021
A: Typically 18 gauge. For brief loads on the order of one ampere, this is sufficient. For some inscrutable reason, two-conductor wore sold for this purpose typically has one red and one black wire. Since this is an alternating current circuit, without an identified ground conductor, this seem somewhat pointless.

Q:How does one know if their existing doorbell uses a transformer? Where would transformer be installed if one was required/replaced?
I only see chime unit on wall.

Answer This Question
A: jgh,
All wired chimes require a transformer, common places for these are near an electrical box, in the attic, or near the actual wired chime on the wall.
by|Dec 14, 2020
A: They ALL do. The transformer may be in a closet, in a garage, or other inconspicuous location; it will put out about 10 or (usually) 16 volts, depending on the type of doorbell which was originally installed . If you have a voltmeter (which I consider to be an essential tool -- Harbor Freight sells them for about $7), remove the screws holding the doorbell button to the door jamb and pull it out enough so that you cab measure the voltage at the terminals. HD sells "contractor kits) which contain a bell and a transformer for as little as $24.

A: Typically the transformer is installed in the garage. It is mounted outside an electrical box on a wall.

A: Hi Jose,
The wired chime will work with the nest camera but you will need to contact next to see if the transformer is strong enough for their video doorbell.
