Product Overview

The Kidde i4618 is an AC/DC powered, ionization smoke alarm that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup. Contractor box contains 4 alarms, mounting brackets, batteries and wire harness all included. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. The front-loading battery door allows user to change the battery without removing the alarm from the mounting bracket making battery replacement easy and convenient. This smoke alarm is available in a 6-piece cut case with tray for easy display as well as a 6-piece bulk pack for contractors and property owners. This unit is a UL Listed product with a 5-year limited warranty. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.

Installed 2 and one BAD ALREADY
Bought this unit March 5th 2021 in a two pack. Install the one right away, still functioning perfectly. The other just woke me up at 6:00 a.m. this morning. Three beeps, then stops, then three beeps. Tried resetting unit, no joy. Removed unit from Mount, reset, changed battery twice. No joy. Understand unit has 5-year warranty? Can you please replace?

Hello. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key to stopping all of the interconnected units from sounding: To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, after disconnecting the alarm and removing any removable battery: hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you. It is also possible that some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms.

    Easy to install
After moving into our new place we needed to replace all the smoke detectors in the house they were originals from 1997. The four pack of smoke detectors was easy to install. After switching off the power, the only tool you will need is a Phillips head screw driver to remove the exisiting hard wired smoke detectors. It took about 3 minutes per smoke detector to switch them out. It was very easy.

      Easy peasy
We had 7 of these that were 16 1/2 years in our house, (Out dated) The new alarms came with everything needed to retrofit the older alarms. Each one took 3-4 minutes to switch out. As of now all is great.

        JUNK ALARM!!! BEWARE!!!
We have 6 of these hardwired in our home. They go off in the middle of the night scaring our family to death! My youngest son runs into our room crying because he thinks the house is on fire. We’ve replaced the batteries, even though they weren’t chirping. Then we’ve blown them out. Luckily, I found the one that was faulty because it started going off while it was in my hand. I just left it unplugged and took the battery out. Not a very safe thing to do, in case there’s a real fire! Also, It’s not a fun thing to do from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM when I have to be at work at 5:00 AM. Very upset about this crap. It’s not the first time this has happened!

The Kidde Firex Hardwired Smoke Detectors were very easy to install and wire. The great thing about them is the Ionization Sensor, and that they also have a 9-Volt Battery Backup in case you loose power. The price was perfect and because they came in a 4-Pack, I was able to replace 3 which I had in my home along with allowing me to add another in my laundry room. I find the KIDDE brand to be perfect for any home. Along with the smoke detector's I have also installed the KIDDE Carbon Monoxide / Smoke Detector combos in my kitchen and garage.
