A:  Thank you for your question. The countertop will come with one coat of food safe golden teak hardwax oil. An additional 2-3 coats of Interbuild Hardwax Oil are required prior to installation as a sealant for the wood. Polyurethane is more commonly used on non food work surfaces. A:  Thank you for your question Reynaldo. There is one coat of grey hardwax oil on the wood. Sanding will remove the coating. Assuming that you want the grey finish, apply 2 coats of the grey hardwax oil after you sand. Many customers apply one final coating of a polyurethane for desks. Please note that all coatings of hardwax oil and polyurethane must be applied to all six sides of the countertop to seal the wood to prevent warping and cracking.
