A:  Yes, I would say it will definitely work for you. I say that because the installation you describe is EXACTLY my situation. My house is oriented with high gable ends facing due East on one end and due West on the other end. I installed this same exhaust fan on the North facing roof line, close to the crown of the roof, but not visible from the street on the South side. The small solar panel has an adjustment that lets you aim it straight up, but not quite enough adjustment to allow it to face in a southerly direction. Despite being mounted to that southern facing roof line, it irks great. A straight up orientation for the panel is not ideal at all, but it suffices to make mine run most of the day.

A:  The panel will need direct sunlight, with the suns rays perpendicular to it. : The optimum angle can be calculated by using the approximate latitude of the house plus 20 degrees.
