A: We do not recommend shortening the hanging wire.

A: No not unless you make your own knot in the line which would hinder refilling the feeder

A: The top needs enough room to open to allow for you to put in seed. You might only be able to take an inch or 2 off. Probably best to leave it alone since top loop is crimped on.

A: Nope. They shinny down the wire and pull it toward them with their front paws so they can get at the seed. I have had partial success in blocking them by adding a "skirt" I cut from a plastic bowl.

A: The seed does stay dry but I admit, the lid could be alittle bit longer! The seed does get alittle wet as it comes out the bottom but not much. I dont have any issues with mine.

A: Yes. Of course, if you get a wind-driven rain all bets are off. But that would apply to pretty much all of the bird feeders that I own anyway!

A: This feeder should help to keep your seed dry, however if you notice that it becomes frequently wet with the varying weather conditions, we recommend placing the feeder in a protected area.

A: Yes. The top fits well over the plastic cone and wil prevent rain from getting to the seeds.
