Q:What is the R value, the website says R-6.6 but that can't be true if its only 1.5 mm.

Answer This Question

A:  This is made with a dense foam, and it provides an air barrier. I don't really know how R values are exactly calculated but I think there is some R value to just being airtight.

A:  This what you use to put on your floor. You must make sure the floor is level first then the mat, tile, also have to use the same manufactures grout to it’s fast drying! The most important thing is the floor to be level first! Good luck

A:  All R-Value are tested by lab at 1” thick for consistency amongst products and testing. QuicPrep provides a great moisture and thermal break at 1.5mm with its .39 R-Value

Q:Is this underlayment compatible with a Coretec Plus Premium 7" LVP, which is 12 mm overall thickness including a 3 mm attached pad?

        Answer This Question

A:  It is an LVP with a 3mm attached pad? No it is not compatible. Contact manufacturer for their installation and warranty information.

        by|Jun 12, 2021

A:  Yes, it's an LVP with a 3 mm attached pad. The manufacturer allows for an underlayment up to 3 mm thick, so this product doesn't void the manufacturer's warranty: https://pdmsview.shawinc.com/viewer/doc/5089. What's the reason that this product isn't compatible? Just that no testing was done with a 3 mm attached pad LVP?

A:  Weight is not usually listed on underlayment as what is important to the install is square footage per pack/roll which is 100sq.ft. This fan-fold pack is approx 4lbs.

Q:Is there.a vapor barrier attached for installation over concrete subfloor?

                  Answer This Question

A:  SS, Yes the quicprep underlayment provides a vapor barrier. From product description: "Attached vapor barrier,Cushioning,Moisture resistant," Seams should be taped together using an underlayment seam tape.

                  by|Apr 10, 2021

A:  Yes QuicPrep does have a built-in moisture barrier. Always follow your flooring manufacturers installation instructions regarding the need in use of additional moisture barrier(s).

Q:We have a concrete slab with radiant in floor heating (circulating water). Will this product block the heat causing our system to work harder? We want to use QuicTile, the floor is very flat and level. It seems counterintuitive to use this below the tile.

                    Answer This Question

A:  This product can 100% work with radiant heating systems but you are correct any quality underlayment with an r-value can impede some of your heating. It should also be noted that this underlayment will also block the cold from penetrating directly into your floor so some customers considered it an offsetting benefit. Additionally QuicPrep provides a moisture barrier which might also make the floor more comfortable. Finally there is no guarantee or warranty provided regarding heat loss and you should also confirm which heating systems your flooring manufacturer warrants for use with their floors.

                      Answer This Question

A:  QuicPrep can be used with radiant heat systems but the manner in which it needs to be installed should be confirmed with the radiant heat manufacturer. This question should also be asked of the flooring manufacturer. Some radiant heat systems could "telegraph" thru the floor.

A:  Yes, and it seems to have been designed specifically for this application. The cable will sink in it and will distribute weight better across.

Q:Since it has an R-value which works over cement, is this going to impede the heat from a heated floor? THe heated floor is hydro stapled under a 3/4" plywood sub floor.

                        Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for your unique question! Yes any product that has an "R-Value" means it will create a thermal break keeping cold from penetrating directly into your floor. This also means that it could also impede some of your radiant heat system. Very similar how a thermos can keep something warm or cold. In most cases the loss of warmth and stopping of cold from the concrete is a "wash" and negates each other. There is no warranty regarding heating system performance and you should always check with the manufacturer of the system and flooring manufacture.

Q:I'm currently removing old tile which was installed ontop of cement board(substrate). I'm taking everything out down to the subfloor. Do I have to put new cement board down ontop of the subfloor before using this or can I just put this directly to the subfloor? I'm worried about water getting to my subfloor seems like I need cement board before installing this product????

                          Answer This Question

A:  Hi Tanya. This Quicprep underlayment is very thin and I would not trust for waterproof-ness. Most of the water resistance will come from the vinyl, laminate, or quick lock tile installed on top of it. It is not for a tile that you are thin-setting down (just to be clear). That said with the right flooring product (i.e. HD 312597904 or 300876920) and edge caulking you should be fine for splash water from the tub. This Quicprep will work for an underlayment directly on the plywood subfloor. If you have kids that splash a lot or worried about lots of water then I would first install a product like Ditra then your finish flooring. Hope this helps!

A:  QuicPrep can be installed over a wood or concrete subfloor in good condition. If an additional cement board is necessary it would only be to comply with the flooring manufacturers installation instructions.

A:  No you don't have to put cement board down, just put underlayment over your subfloor. Just did my kitchen and spare room and this is easy to work with, would purchase again.
