QuicPrep 100 sq. ft. Universal Underlayment can be used for multiple floating floors. I put mine under LifeProof. It comes fan folded, accordion like. The package had directions displayed on it. There are directions at HD Online. There is a HD video on YouTube to view too. The moisture barrier protects against moisture vapor. The 1.5 mm foam density enhances the floor performance, and protects against imperfections in the floor. It helps reduce sound transmission too. The high R-value does help keep the floor warm. I just placed one end down and walked backwards and it unfolds itself. It lays flat. Once it was down I taped both ends, and the edge against the wall. I butted the second row against the first. I taped the ends of the second row. I taped down the middle of the butted edge. It is extremely easy to layout. It is just as easy to cut with the cutting grid. The only tools needed are scissors, or a box cutter, and tape. I had no trouble laying the floor on top of the QP. Walking on the LP with the QP under it has more cushioning. Not a lot like a carpet pad. But, I could definitely feel the difference between the LP with QP, and the LP on concrete. It does add more warmth than just plan concrete. It supports the joints too. This will be nice when heavy furniture is placed on a joint. I didn't plan on using underlayment. My floors passed the moisture test, and the LP has a built in underlayment. But, I have an area in a BR and the closet that are always cold, damp like. I wanted something for these areas. The floor feels so much better with this under it. I wish I had used this on all the rooms. All underlayment is pricey. But, I would recommend budgeting the QP into the job. The ease of use, and no real time lost from the job to lay it out. And the added support, comfort, and warmth it provides makes it worth the cost.

Thanks for your detailed review. FYI for you and anyone reading look for LifeProof Universal which is launching at the Home Depot very soon! It will provide the same great features and benefits under the powerful LifeProof brand! https://www.instagram.com/lifeproofuniversal/ Pak-LiteFlooringUnderlayment

I am using this underlayment for a basement remodel project under vinyl plank flooring. This product comes in a fan-folded up form - it is a 100 sq. ft. package. It unfolds nicely lays flat and is only 1.5 mm thick. The product has a grid on top and is helpful for measuring and cutting. If you use more than one package, the seams should be taped (sold separately). It is XPS foam so it has some R value and sound deadening and it has a built in moisture barrier, which is great for my basement project. It is fast and easy to lay down and work with.

The main advantage of this Quickprep underlayment for laminate and LVP is that it is very easy to use. It cuts easily and unfolds easily. I like that it has a grid imprint so you can make exact cuts. The thing I didn’t like is that it is awfully thin. I’ve used a few different types of underlayment, including the foam type and the one with the little foam balls, and those two are much thicker and give a nice feel to the floor. This one is just very thin, so technically you’re using an underlayment and it is a moisture barrier but I don’t think it will provide much in terms of sound absorption or cushion. I had to layer it in several high traffic areas to try to provide better cushion.

I really do love these grid underlayments, they make jobs so much easier. The cost is higher than a typical underlayment but it really does save time and waste in my mind when you're able to more accurately cut and use your material. The QuicPrep Universal Underlayment is a versatile and easy to install product, and you don't have to worry about material binding up or folding as you're laying your floor. This material cuts super easy with a blade and you can lay it two different way, you can lay it down and press it against a wall while cutting the seam, or you can you measure ahead of time and cut. I prefer this product over typical vapor barrier installs. Aside from this being a versatile and easy to use product, I do have two cons to share. The first is that there is no included tape seam, you have to buy the tape separately, when other products come with it installed. The second is that it's listed as a sound dampener and in all of my installations I've had to use a product twice this thick to get any noticeable sound dampening improvements from upstairs levels. This product is not quite 1/16" thick, and all sound dampening that I've installed prior required at least 1/8" thick to make a noticeable difference. You could probably fold it over and double up on it if that is a concern of yours, but that makes it twice as costly to install. Overall, I will continue to purchase this product for downstairs applications or upstairs areas over a garage or outdoor living space, but for upstairs I will be purchasing a thicker material.

For an extremely thin underlayment this product boasts some impressive stats. It is very light and easy to unfold and lays flat. The grid pattern adds clarity for cutting around obstacles, but don't rely on the dimensions of the squares unless you are working with Metric measurements. They are almost 1/2" squares, but do not measure out over the long run.

I ordered this universal underlayment for a basement remodel project, and it looks like it'll work fine. We live in the north east, and in the winters our concrete slab basement floor gets pretty cold. I'm planning to finish our basement with updated electrical, a secondary heat source, and framed, insulated, and drywalled walls, I wanted to make sure the space wouldn't go unused because the space was still getting cold, or that people were getting cold feet. I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to put down for flooring yet (self-adhesive carpet squares, or a thin but softer water-resistant laminate), but I needed an underlayment with a moisture barrier, and an R-value for insulation. This stuff met the bill 100% and it's only 1.5 millimeters thick. The installation looks to be the easiest of any underlayment out there as well. Just lay it down with the grid on top, unfold it, and use the grid to cut around obstacles, then tape all the rows of the underlayment together and you're done. No adhesive required. And if you need any help/instruction, the product listing page for this on Home Depot has how to Videos, as well as all the information you'll need to pull the trigger on this product and install it. Great underlayment with moisture barrier and R-value for basement projects, and affordable too.

i ordered the Quicprep universal underlayment for use with a luxury vinyl plank flooring that i installed in our laundry room. the flooring can with a backing attached to it but there are advantages to using a separate underlayment that serves as a moisture barrier, a sound reducer and gives some insulation value. this underlayment is very easy to install, it lays flat , is easy to trim and has two sets of grid lines to use as guides when making necessary cuts. it is only 1.5 mm thick and the seams must be taped together when it is installed with separately purchased tape. i have used a different brand underlayment from a major flooring manufacturer that is very similar to this product, it contains the same amount of square footage, is twice as thick ( 3mm ) , comes with self attached tape and the price is the same cost. i would only recommend this product if it was all that was available due to the cost being the same as the name brand product.

The QuicPrep Premium Underlayment comes in a 100 sq. ft. package, measuring 47 inches wide by 25 feet 8 inches long by 1.5 mm thick. This is Universal Underlayment for QuicTile, Luxury Vinyl Plank, Laminate, and Engineered Hardwood. It works well under floating floors. Installation is an easy 4-step process: Unfold it with the grid-side up, smooth it out with no overlaps, trim it with a razor knife using the cutting grid as a guide, and tape the sections together to keep them from shifting. It goes directly over a smooth surface of cement, tile, or any other smooth surface. Now apply your floating flooring material. It is quick and easy. I’ll be using this on my basement hallways and adjoining utility room. Each package covers 100 square feet so measure your total area to determine how many packages you will need. Proudly made in the USA.

So far I had experience with “sold in rolls” underlayments from other producers. QuicPrep surely have certain advantageous. It does not bend when you put it on the floor. It has square patterns through the whole length, which is good to have to make straight cuts. The latter may help also with directing laminate or other planks and see if with tapping you sift from one side or another (very important in the beginning of the way). Top layer is smooth and filmy (this layer will provide resistance to water), while the other side is spongy. Thickness is only ~1.5 mm. Good product. Recommend to try!

This is a review of the QuicPrep 100 Sq. ft 3.9 tv X 25.7 ft X 0.059 inches universal underlayment for QuicTile, vinyl plank, laminate and eng hardwood. The underlayment is 1.5 MM thick high density XPS foam. This underlayment is very light weight. It is about 45 inches wide and the floor is folded like a xylophone. Each of the sections stay together, please see my attached pictures. This is a great design and looks like it will create 100 sq ft of a vapor and sound reducing barrier. This is very high dense foam material used. It cuts very easily with a utility knife making extremely installer friendly regardless of your experience. There is tape you can get from Home Depot to attach the rows of this material together, ensuring it’s vapor barrier integrity. This also has an R-value so it helps to retain heat in the room. It helps to smooth out minor floor imperfections. This is a great product and looking forward to installing my new underlayment flooring next month.

I’m installing some more laminate flooring, and having used an underlayment “roll” before, I have...
I’m installing some more laminate flooring, and having used an underlayment “roll” before, I have a chance to compare this product. What I like: 1. The product is inherently flat, rather than unwound from a “coil.” Therefore, it is not necessary to waste time and effort trying to hold down one end, when setting it down on the floor. Although the product lies flat, the underside is not “grippy,” so it can slide around until a sufficient weight of the floor planks is set over the underlayment to hold it in place. Once a few planks are set down, the underlayment will not move around much. Also, since the sequence of laminate floor installation typically starts at a wall and proceeds into the center of a room, as planks are added the wall will act as a backstop to prevent movement. 2. Each “panel” measures 47” x 9-5/8”, but they are connected at the long edge, and packaged as one continuous, fan-folded board. Each panel can be unfolded from the "fan" to create a larger underlayment footprint. The product features a printed grid (1/4” per small grid box, 4” per large grid box), which serves as a built-in cutting guide. Since the material holds flat, it is easy to measure and cut using an ordinary utility knife. 3. The “fan-folded” design makes it rather easy to gather up and store unused product. 4. The manufacturer states that the product acts as a moisture barrier. This is particularly useful on concrete surfaces, which are usually water and vapor permeable. I poured a little water on the surface of the product, and it pooled up nicely. What concerns me: 1. Although the manufacturer touts that the underlayment will “smooth” out minor floor unevenness, the material seems too thin to me to do much in this regard. Perhaps it is thick enough to smooth out a tiny bit of dust or a staple inadvertently left behind after sweeping the surface, but I question whether it can compensate for an errant nail or a modest concrete blemish that can be felt by hand. 2. Although the product claims “sound reduction” benefits, meaningful sound reduction usually requires a cork underlayment or a much thicker material than employed here. The thin plastic material simply does not seem sufficient. My install was over a concrete surface at ground level, so I was unable to fairly evaluate this claim of sound reduction. 3. This product seems to come at a premium price compared to roll underlayment, and that may be a deterrent for higher volume users. Overall, this is an impressive product and compared to competing underlayment, seems to have many advantages both for installation and use. Of course, these days many laminate floors feature a built-in laminate, eliminating the need for a separate underlayment, so it is important to evaluate whether additional padding is needed for those situations. I would recommend this product to a friend where noise reduction is not a critical need.

This is the perfect underlayment for many different kinds of surfaces. This offers a nice insulation layer. The insulation offers cushion which offers comfort. It also offers insulation for flooring that lays on concrete so that the floor will not be cold. This is easy to layout and use. Another nice feature of this product is that there are gridmarks on the product which can be used for laying the floor.

Interesting alternative to standard plastic sheeting for floor underlayment. This product is a thin Styrofoam sheet that folds out onto the floor. It has some installation benefits and challenges as well. Since it is semi-rigid it lays flat and makes it easy to figure out where to cut to match the wall or other obstacles (see photo). You can easily make straight, square cuts that fit around cabinets which is a real time saver. But where it gets tricky to use is when you have to run it through a door transition. It wants to fold up or crack since doesn’t flex to the door jamb. Something that is no issue with standard plastic sheeting. It is priced similar to higher end quietwalk or other underlayments. For that reason I don’t think I would switch. But it was worth trying once.

Regretful purchase...
Regretful I bought this product... I bought 7 boxes for my sister's condo, and never thought to open up the box up before buying it. She told me that we need anything over an IIC of 70, and when I saw the IIC listed as 72 on the box I leaped on it. However... when I got back to the condo and opened up the box, I was SHOCKED that I could see my hand through it! Yes, I could actually see my hand through the underlayment!!!! I can't even wrap my head around how a product this thin can claim to get a sound rating so high.. It was extremely light, flimsy and honestly felt like a very cheap product. I am returning this product and seeing what alternatives I have... I feel like I got ripped off hard!! However this is my mistake for not speaking with a flooring employee. I feel like this could have all been avoided if I waited for someone to guide me in the right direction.

Response from Mickey-UnderlaymentNov 23, 2020
Thank you for your review and the opportunity for a reply. This product has third party independent testing of a IIC 72 with a 5.1mm LVP. Additionally it is the ONLY underlayment tested, approved and warranted for use with LifeProof LVP which means you can install it with LifeProof with attached pad or "pad over pad". Also thicker softer products could damage your LVP locking system and joints. Please do not let its slight transparency or thickness mislead you as neither of those attributes are good indicators of a quality underlayment that provides "sound improvement". There are many products double in thickness of QuicPrep that have lower IIC ratings. Finally because of QuicPrep's construction in addition to sound improvement it provides Moisture Protection, a Thermal Break, Smoothing of Subfloor to help protect the locking system and joints and is a easy to use fan-fold. This is "not our grandfather's underlay". Pak-LiteFlooringUnderlayment

If you are looking for an easy, inexpensive underlayment for your floating floors then I highly recommend this product. It's a good thickness at 1.5 mm thick. It comes with a built in moisture barrier that will protect your floors against damaging moisture. It is easy to trim and can be maneuvered easily. It also will help reduce sound. Great product, great price.

This underlayment provides a nice insulating layer beneath the flooring. It's 1.5 mm thick by 4 feet wide by 26 feet long. (covers approx. 100 sq ft). The product is like a thin piece of foam and provides a smooth surface under your flooring, leveling out any imperfections and prevents that "bouncy" effect other thicker underlayments portray. This QuicPrep also provides a moisture barrier and sound reduction on any rooms below. The grid system on the underlayment allows for straight cuts. You can cut this with a utility knife, it's super lightweight and easy to use, just lay down, cut to fit and tape the border and any seams, and voila, install your laminate flooring or click type tiles.

Quick and easy is an understatement. This Quicprep underlayment is the easiest product I have ever used to install laminate flooring. It is not very thick, which was my only concern. But it is waterproof and seems to do the job for a good underlayment. All you need is a sharp box cutter and some underlayment tape to get the job done. The lines preprinted on the material seemed silly at first actually help while doing the job. I used this with Lifeproof Laminate flooring in my entry way and the job was quick and easy.

This is a great underlayment for all types of flooring. The quality is good and very comfortable to walk on. The added lines give you a good guide to lay your floor panels and are also helpful when you need to cut it eliminates the need to have a straight edge. This comes in a flat form instead of a roll which is helpful when laying it on the floor it does not curl up.

I chose this underlayment to use at my older lake house because I'm putting in a laminate "floating floor" and wanted something to go over the concrete floor leveler that I had to pour so that my initial flooring would be level. I also didn't want the flooring to be cold to walk on since it would have been directly on the concrete. Underlayment allows for a nice insulating layer beneath the flooring This QuicPrep underlayment was exactly what I was looking for. It's 1.5mm thick x 3.9 ft wide x 25.7 ft long. (covers 100 sq ft). The product is like a thin piece of foam and provides a smooth surface under your flooring. Also provides a moisture barrier and sound reduction on the rooms below. I like the "grids" on the underlayment which allows for straight cuts. You can cut this with a utility knife. Super lightweight and easy to use. It's thin enough so that your flooring doesn't seem "bouncy" like other underlayments. This works with all floating floors: luxury vinyl plank, engineered hardwood and laminate. It is also certified to use with QuicTile by daltile and porcelain tile with Clic-fit technology. I really like this product.

Quicprep's 'universal' underlayment is an innovative take on foam flooring underlayment. The two big innovations are that the product accordion-folds flat, and it is marked with a layout grid. Both of these features are actually great. Unlike rolls of underlayment, it's simple to put in place without having someone stand on one end (or, worse, stacking heavy objects to keep one end from moving while you roll it out). The mark-out grid is fantastic - you can make perfect cuts with household scissors. Why do I give it 4 stars instead of 5? Well, it is just thin extruded polystyrene. For 2nd-floor installations, there are quieter underlayments you can use (even if they are more difficult to install).

This QUICPREP foam underlayment is a very DIY-friendly, affordable underlayment, perfect for use under vinyl plank, engineered hardwood and laminate. I chose this particular product for a hallway installation of engineered hardwood, that included a number of doorway cut-ins. The QUICPREP, with its super-handy printed graph of 1/2" squares, made trimming for those doors quick & easy. Another huge plus is the "fanfold" aspect of the foam, allowing for super-easy laydown-- no "playing Twister," fighting with a curling roll! Thank you! The foam itself is light, 1.5 mm thick high density XPS foam, that has surprisingly high R-value for retaining warmth, a natural moisture barrier, and very good sound reduction qualities. Overall, it's a well-made underlayment that offers the DIYER an easy-to-use, effective underlayment for a wide variety of floating floors. Highly recommend.

This was the first time I used this underlayment. It works pretty well. It is different but lays easily. It is pretty flat which surprised me as I was concerned about it's ability to deaden the sound of the flooring. It worked very well. The cost is a bit more expensive than the other product but I suspect it will hold up very well. It was easy to cut and fit in tight spaces which was a plus. My wife helped me at first and then I ended up completing my self. The great news was it was easy as a one man job.

Just the item I need as I update a 50 year old bathroom. I am insalling luxury vinyl planks. Wanted something water resistant. I have used rolled up foam underlayment in the past- but liked the idea of this fan fold more rigid underlayment. Also liked the grid printed on it making it easier and faster to make my cuts. It stays in place while installing the flooring. As a DIY person this made my flooring job go much easier and faster. I also sealed it where it fit up agains m shower base- making it less likely for water to get to my subflooring.

This underlayment worked out perfectly, it is all inclusive just to lay down on the floor while I finish a flooring job that I started in May. It is the same thickness as the other underlayment we purchased but we need more tiles and flooring so they came in and we finish the installation. It cut very easily so when we needed to do the corners it worked out perfectly. It didn’t come with the tape and all we needed was about 2 feet of it, so we use the blue painters tape and it worked just as well one package covers 100 ft.² we only needed 85.

I’m currently in the process of replacing some old carpet with vinyl plank flooring and i thought this might be a lot easier to use than traditional underlayment that you unroll. I was very pleased when i got this stuff because it truly is very simple to use. I appreciate that it has grids printed on it that can be used as reference guides. It’s about as simple to use as you can get. Get a sharp utility knife and a straight end and installation is quick work. Definitely recommend this stuff.

My friend gave me 50 sq feet, left over from a job a few weeks ago but I needed another 80 sq feet for another small bathroom job. The apartment has a lot of LVT tile squares from the 1960s, much of which are still very strong and I didn't want to remove it since it may contain asbestos. On one job, I installed vinyl and on the other job I installed tile. I was a little iffy on how it would hold tile, since I'm just used to tile going on concrete or concrete board. Time will tell, but it gives me a great option.

Thanks for your review. QuicPrep is perfect for smoothing out "minor" subfloor imperfections including things like a tile floor that is in good condition with small/normal grout lines. QuicPrep is tested and approved for use with LVP such as LifeProof, Laminate and Engineered Hardwood. The only that can be used is QuicTile by DalTile Click Lock Porcelain Tile. It is not to be used with any other tile (ceramic, porcelain etc. Pak-LiteFlooringUnderlayment
