Q:This 3/8 screw says it requires a 1/2 masonry bit. But the Frequently Bought Together list suggests a 3/8 bit. Which is it? Most of what I've seen says be screw and the bit should be the same size. Thanks.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello akai, my name is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. I am not sure what information you reviewed that required a 1/2" masonry bit for the 3/8" x 3" Titen Heavy Duty (THD) Screw Anchor but this is not correct. You are correct that the screw and the bit should be the same size. Our THD anchors have oversize threads that cut into the size wall of the drilled hole. So, a THD37300H does require a 3/8" masonry/concrete drill bit. For more information enter THD37300H in the Search field at the top left corner of our home page, strongtie.com. Q:Is a pilot hole with a concrete drill bit needed?

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Homeowner, thank you for your message. This is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. I hole must be predrilled before screwing in the Titen HD. For a 3/8" Titen, you would simply need a 3/8" concrete drill bit. The threads are oversized and will undercut into the concrete causing to lock and anchor in place. The depth of the hole will be determined by the designer. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Answer This Question

A:  Hi Justme, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The THD can be removed, however we do not have any test data to support reusing a Titen HD nor installing a new Titen HD into preinstalled hole. We would recommend contacting a local design professional for further evaluation. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you.
