Q:Is there a chance of the damper doors possibly sticking shut if this product is used in a range hood application because of greasy exhaust build-up over time? What is the minimum required exhaust CFM that will cause the doors to open?

        Answer This Question

A:  The KOM 200 U opens at 25 cfm @ 0.05 and 50 cfm at 0.1 static pressure. Using the KOM -U series with a Range Hood System should not affect the damper’s performance. The range hood filter usually does a good job preventing the presence of grease and dirt in the ductwork or on the damper. Please contact customer service they will fully resolve this issue.

A:  Yes it can. I do recommend making sure you have enough cfm that it opens when vertical.

Q:so can it be installed on my ceiling and still work correctly?

              Answer This Question

A:  After doing some testing on it I found that it works best on a slight angle where the doors are up. The spring on it is just strong enough to keep it closed. I have a 700 cfm blower about 3 feet in front of the damper, bows wide open. I live in Wisconsin and with the cold winds this past winter, I had no issues with. Blocked all the cold air. I do know that a 200 cfm inline booster fan will barely blow it open. So, depending on your needs and what you have in front of it and considering you have the depth in your ceiling, yes it will work.

A:  Yes that’s what i did, air flow going up so when the return fan shuts off the spring allows the flaps to drop

A:  Yes it can be installed in the ceiling. It is designed to prevent backdraft in the ventilation system. So as long as it is being utilized for this purpose then you should be fine.
