Q:If I wanted to hang sound dampening curtains on this, could it support the weight? Would have rod resting on shelves in closet and potentially 2 curtains hanging off it. Curtains usually 10 lbs each.

Q:Has anyone used these on a deck or in a yard to string lights overhead? My thought is to stain them with deck stain, secure them to my deck posts, add an eye hook or something similar to one end, and string lights 8' up across the deck. Any thoughts or advice?

A:  It would probably work since the dowel wouldn't be supporting a lot of weight. The dowels I bought were ordered online and shipped to the local Home Depot. Both were straight and free of any twist, so I was pleased with the quality. Judging from the weight I'd say they are a decent grade of maple. Since you'd be using them outside, I'd suggest supporting/hanging them in the middle as well as the ends, since outdoor exposure is going to be harsher than interior use.
