A: You don’t do anything with it. It’s there in case you need it. There should be something though that holds it in place like a clip.

Q:help for installing

A: what size tool is needed
by|Dec 2, 2020
A: Turn gas valve to off position, just to be safe. With a small wrench, unscrew the thermacouple from the gas valve. The flame end of the gas valve can be treaded in place or sometimes its not. It could be just held in place by a small piece of metal pinching down on it. If so, it just pulls out. Either way, loosen both ends paying GREAT attention to how you took it apart, and how it's run from point A to point be, (i.e. the middle of the thermacouple is not in the way of the flames or something.) Install the new one the same way as the old one came out. If you got the same size, great. If you got a longer one, just keep the excess length coiled up and tucked out of the way somewhere. Screw in both ends BUT NOT TOO TIGHT. Just get each end snug. If the flame end wasn't screwed and was just pulled out, then just push it back in until it stops. Follow your gas valve's particular instructions for re-lighting it. Your unit should be working. If it didn't relight, double check your installation. If your SURE you got the right part and installed it correctly, then most likely your pilot light went out because you need a new gas valve.

A: If you're SURE you installed the correct replacement thermocouple and installed it correctly, then it has to be your gas valve. It happens. I do this professionally. If a new thermocouple didn't do it, then it's automatically your gas valve.
Might be time to call a professional to change that out, unless you're really handy. At least you know what to ask them on the phone, i.e. "How much do you charge to change out a gas valve?" You might be able to shave some money off the bill if you provide the gas valve. Some companies may not let you, but some will. They can REALLY mark their prices up when it comes to parts. A $50 gas valve can cost you around $250 from a repair company. No kidding. Good luck!

A: you must hold down the pilot button for a while until gas start to flow on it's own because it's not high pressure and takes time to flow , you may have to repeat this a few times before it actually stays on

A: This is a pretty universal part, like a screw or nail, very versatile. The only real trouble when it comes to compatiblity is the length of the thermocouple. The same length or longer is fine, but like a 24" long thermocouple wont be long enough to replace a 36" or 48". It will have issues reaching. I suggest you take the old one off, measure the length, and then take it to the store with you. If it says it's the same length and looks like the same shape/ size, especially the ends where they thread into the valve and thermocouple bracket, then it should work just fine. I've used LOTS of generic thermocouples on a wide variety of pieces of equipment with no problems.

A: Hi cj! Based off of the information given, I can't say for certain if the Honeywell 24 in. Universal Gas Thermocouple is compatible with the Williams Direct Vent Wall Heater. I would get in contact with either Williams or Home Depot to see if they have any clarifying information. I hope that was helpful! Thank you.
