I bought this because my ISP suggested I upgrade to a docsys 3.1 modem.
My average download speed was hovering around 260 Mbps, and it is now over 700 Mbps with the SB8200.

Exelent device
This Wifi router is the best I got in my whole life using internet, I got a similar but was getting to slow, I called my internet provider and the technician told me was the wifi modem router, he recommend me to get a recent model so... I got this and I feel I'm flying with this device in the whole devices connected at the same time.

Great router
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was my first experience with Arris modems, and so far, I am pleased with it. The modem was very easy to set up; just follow instructions. It was ready in about 5-10 minutes. My internet connection has been stable, and my internet works all around the house. I had no problem connecting more than seven devices at the same time. The app that it comes with is straightforward to use. It allows you to change your router name and password. The best feature of all is the parental control that allows parents to shut off the internet on a kid's device after set hours.
I would definitely recommend it.

Dual Purpose
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recommend SURFboard SBG8300 Wi-Fi Cable Modem to anyone who needs a cable modem, wants to stop renting one, and who also needs a WiFi upgrade. This is a cable modem, and NOT for DSL or Satellite service. This DOCSIS 3.1 and has four 1-gigabit Ethernet ports, so it should be able to handle the higher speeds internet providers will make available in the future.
The Arris SURFboard SBG8300 comes with the modem, power adapter, ethernet cable, and a quick start guide.
I connected the modem to power and coaxial cable. Then I called my internet service provider so they could activate my service on the new modem. They asked me for the HFC MAC ID number for the modem. It is located on the bottom of the device, and it also is on the back page of the Arris quick start guide. This process only took a few minutes and the service was activated on my new modem. Next, I setup my WiFi connection since the SBG8300 is after all also an AC2350 wireless router.
To setup WiFi the guide instructs to download the Arris Surfboard Manager app. This setup guided me step by step. After the WiFi was configured, I connected my devices.
The Arris Surfboard Manager app, itself, has some nice features including: ability to edit your WiFi settings, check connected device list, a speed test, a WiFi spot meter, and parental controls.
The Arris Surfboard SBG8300 does double duty as a modem and as a wireless router. It may be best recommended for smaller homes utilizing fewer devices, but it is a solid device, for those who want to break free from modem rental fees, and have a good router that will grow as their service provider does.

Constant resets to prevent jitter & packet loss
Have had problems with this modem since purchase. The issues seems to get worse with time or maybe I have become less patient. Modem works fine after reset for a period. Over time the jitter and packet loss becomes noticeable. With more time it becomes unbearable. Reset the modem and start the cycle all over again.
I have gone through the maddening cycle of replacing cables and lines. Cox support has done trouble shooting and sent a tech out. Both have told me the modem is probably deflective. Seems to be a persistent issue for many. If I only browsed the internet or streamed movies it would only be noticeable a bit and require a reset once a week or so. Since I FPS game it is terribly inconsistent and frustrating beyond belief.

Seems to be working as expected
I am upgrading my old SB6121 from many moons ago bo SB8200. Performance seems to be improved. The activation was not as seamless as I had hoped. The cell phone app activation had an error so I had to contact XFINITY to complete the activation. not sure what the problem was.
The unit has been on now several days and is fairly warm to the touch. I will be contacting Arris to verify this is normal behavior. I have yet to read the user guide and look at all the features and settings.

worked great for a year
I bought this modem to I would not have to rent one from the internet provider. Now, the internet provider is saying I need a firmware update. Since I own it, I have to get it. The site here says that all firmware has to be done by the internet provider.

All of the 1-star reviews are user error
Every one-star review at the time of me writing this is user error. One guy even complained about it not working in the snow! As if the cable modem has anything to do with the lines outside when it's snowing! I guess some people just should not be allowed to manage their own technology.
I am using this modem on an XFinity 1Gbps line and it works perfectly. Once it was activated on their side, it worked great. Have had no issues, it is small, quiet and runs a lot cooler than my last cable modem did as well. Pay no attention to the 1-star reviewers who all probably still have a VCR flashing "12:00" somewhere.

My review of SBG8300
This SBG8300 wifi 5 cable modem was easy to set up and activate with Spectrum Internet. No issues. Now i just need to fine-tune it for faster downloads than what I was getting before with my much older cable modem.

TERRIBLE PRODUCT AND PRODUCT SUPPPORT
I bought an SB8200 a week ago. After it arrived, I tried to connect and login. Login failed with defaults provided. One of the ethernet ports does not work. On chat, the 'scripting' was completely useless and the chat rep was unwilling to exchange units or really understand what the problem was.

Easy and fast
I just received this last week and so far it's been really super fast and very reliable compared to my old modem I had which was throttling my net pretty hard !! Only gripe I have is the shipping is very slow and I chose expedited shipping but all in all very very happy with this modem

Keeps Dropping Connection
I have had this SBG8300 for two years now and all this time it has continuously dropped connection and my streaming keeps buffering. I now find out that this model has a bad chipset which is causing these issues. I will return it for a refund

Router? Really?!?!
I bought this as I needed to upgrade my existing cable modem and router setup. I thought this was great as I didn't need two separate pieces. But then I find out that the "router" part would not allow you to change the router (default gateway) IP, would only allow for a /24 or /25 network and would not allow the DHCP range to be shut off. This wouldn't work as what it was giving me is not compatible to my current network setup and would have to reconfigure ALL of my currently static assigned devices. Back to the store it goes!! Since I couldn't get past this part I cannot say how the rest of it worked.

failed modem
Got this last christmas as a gift from my parents.After many calls to Charter and having new line dropped to house , all my splitters cut in house. They had to come back a third time top reprovision my modem to finf out it was bad.

Works Great
Had no option for FiOS in the new house so Optimum in CT was the best choice. Their Altice Modem was flaky, so I decided to try buying my own (cost works out in my favor after 1st year). It was easy to set up, however I read somewhere and need to confirm as I too experience only one Ethernet port being usable. I have a MeSH router plugged into #1 and tried installing a 2nd MeSH to another part of the house but it seemed to have no signal. I'm giving 5 stars as my network hasn't dropped once in the past 3 weeks and I get a really robust signal from my router.

Unreliable product
I have had this product for close to a year in that time I have delt with constant drop outs of my net work. I have had my service provider out twice checking all lines and connections in my house as well as out side my house all were good minus a cable end which was replaced. On average I will suffer thru 3-4 drops a day each time ill reset the modem and back up and running for a while. When the modem works its good but being I work from home and rely on my network the constant drop outs are just unacceptable. Thankfully I bought a protection policy on this so ill be swapping it out and most likely not for the same product as this was my first Arris product and not happy with its performance.
