I've finished a good bit of concrete in my day, so I'm well acquainted with the hand tools needed to achieve a smooth and level final surface. Floats come in various sizes and price points and the working surface is most commonly wood, aluminum, or magnesium. Wood floats are generally made of some type of hardwood and are often cheaper to purchase, but less durable, than other materials. The float I received performed well in my first use, leaving a nice, smooth texture. It is very light and easy to handle, important if you're spending several hours with the tool out at arms length. My only concern is that the wood used (described only as "select hardwood" which generally means whatever they can get cheaply) on my tool absorbed water from the concrete and warped slightly during use. While this distortion wasn't enough to affect the final finish visibly, any subsequent warping will render the float useless. The good news is that the tool is inexpensive, so I won't be too worried if the lifespan of this product is short. If you're planning a single project and want a basic float for very little money, this one is for you.

Very disappointed with this float. Have bought them from here for years. This new one from China is thinner, and it warped the very first time that I used it. I'm a professional tilesetter and I need pro tools. This is not one. I don't even think its made of cedar like they are supposed to be . After 36 years in the trade I have never had a float that was this inferior to what it should be. I bought 2 at the time and I am returning the one I haven't used yet. Home Depot needs to rethink their purchasing from China. All the ones before were American made.
