Am hooked on Behr but last time we used another brand on our deck because my husband's friend recommended it but here we are, less than 2 years later, repainting. Is thinner than regular Behr paint but covered beautifully and easily and looks great.

Extremely Disappointed
Regret buying this because there's nothing "natural" looking about it. Applied 2 coats to sanded deck boards, and it is a deep, almost neon orange color. Will now have to redo this project, and will have a hard time trusting other Behr stain color samples.

You have the option of using a Solid Color over the Semi-Transparent Stain in a new color. However, this won't show any of the wood grain. Not bad but more orange than expected
As many reviews have said, the color (Cedar Naturaltone semi-transparent) had more of an orange tone than expected. I used it on our cedar patio furniture after sanding it down with 80 grit to remove the year of weathering. It went on pretty easily with a roller, touched up the edges and hard to reach area with a brush. I did not apply a second coat since it was already darker than I expected - hiding some of the grain and knots. Overall, I’ll use the product again but swap colors.

Dried very uneven. Some places dark, other areas light. Especially in areas where you had to cut in using a brush. We used foam applicator, foam roller, regular roller, brush, and foam brush nothing worked. I had used this product several years ago, and it worked very well. Needless to say I am very disappointed.

Did not last through one winter
This is supposed to protect decks for 6 years. It didn’t even last one winter and the sealer/stain started peeling off! I applied the sealer in the summer of 2022 to make sure it will dry properly. See photos.

Our Semi-Transparent Waterproofing Stain & Sealer should provide a 6-year lifespan for horizontal surfaces and 8 years for vertical. To fix the issue, I recommend removing the loose coating and cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner to promote adhesion. Once dry, touch up the spots and apply a thin coat if needed for uniformity. If the peeling is widespread, it's best to remove the stain by sanding or stripping before using our cleaner and recoating the surface following the recommended spread rate. I didn't like how the can put at the very bottom "Two coats required" in bold. Like they are hiding that. That should have been at the top of the list. And you have to use their special cleaner, and pressure wash, and sand..., and use two coats... In order to get this 6 years life. I'm beginning to think it's not so much the brand of stain as it is the prep work to get good results.

Didn't last one year before it started peeling like crazy. And yes, I did prep it thoroughly. Just what you get for water based behr.

Orange
We bought this because it says natural tone thinking it would look more like a natural wood color. I was skeptical when we opened the can and it looked orange but we decided to trust the process. Now my whole deck is orange and we will have to buy a different color and start all over. Not to mention the money we just wasted.

Redoing the stain on our wrap around covered porch
We have lived here for 17 years and this is the second time we have stained this porch. We prepped by pressure washing with the product available at Home Depot in the bright green bottle. Next morning started, painters taped columns and the siding, then started staining one person using brushes for edges, cracks and knots in the the wood; followed by and person rolling (used nap suggested in video). This product covered amazing, went on easily, and the color is exactly as described. The following morning we put on a second coat.

Peeling everywhere before a year was up.
This is peeling everywhere. It’s not a stain, it’s more like a cheap paint. It doesn’t soak in.

This stain comes out orange
Super disappointed in this stain. It not only comes out with an orange tinge, but the single gallon buckets are inconsistent and made my deck look awful. Now I have to powerwash and reapply a good sealant. Make sure to test it on a small area first before covering the whole surface.

Orangey yellow
There is nothing cedar tone about this stain. It’s orange. This has happened before with a different brand. I thought Behr would be the correct color.

Disappointing
I took 3 weeks preparing by 4 year old cedar deck for my 50th anniversary celebration. I followed the direction implicitly. Stripped & sanded, washed, sun dried, applied no direct sun, etc. It started peeling in 2 weeks. This Spring it was a mitigated disaster. Thankfully I’ve need no chemicals to prepare it yet again. Comes right off with water…

Flaked off
Flaked off badly after the first year of summer/winter Wish i would have stayed natural with water seal (thompsons). The section under my overhang seems to hold pretty well but barely ever gets sun or rain 2 coat’s originally next season New coat after sanding and power washing to get all the flakes off Not sure what to do now??? 7 gallons Not cool behr

Awesome so far
Used this to stain and seal an old redwood deck. So far, happy with the results. Make sure that you stir this product before application as the brown tint tends to stay at the bottom. The product dries really fast. Has some shin to it after it’s dry, so if you are looking for a satin shin, this may not be for you. So far, so good. Will find out in 2033 if it lasted 10 years!

Great color and waterproof coating!
After a number of research, I finalized the Behr semi transparent wood stain and sealer for my old deck. I was bit confused about the color and chose chocolate at the beginning, but I saw many people reviewed it's not chocolate, so I came across the cordovan brown and I really like how it turned out!

Too thin to use
Bad batch apparently. This was my 2nd can needed for my deck. It separated after application and messed everything up. Had to exchange it for another can at no cost. However, I now have to restain everything. Very big waste of my time. This product should have the viscosity of paint. If it is thin, dont buy it.

Revitalized an old side porch
I bought a home with a side porch that need painted. Didn’t know whether paint or stain was on the wood or both. It had quite a few layers. I rough sanded and cleaned the porch before applying. This stain was like paint and seems to be good. Time will tell.

The staff member who helped me was very helpful. However, the Behr stain I bought for my deck (Natural Cedar, semi-transparent) dries to an ugly orange color. I returned 4 of the 6 gallons I bought (I lost about $100) and went with stain I have used in the past and like –– Ready Seal. Too bad Home Depot doesn’t sell Ready Seal.

Burst orange yuck
Prepped our deck, and applied the “redwood” stain. We immediately hated it but thought let’s let it dry and see what the color does. The color is NOT redwood, it is burnt orange, it is hideous, the ceiling in our home are now orange because they are reflecting from the deck! Behr please help and give me a refund!!! I need a new color asap!

To fix the issue, I'd recommend removing the stain by sanding, power washing at a low level or using a wood stain stripper. Then clean the surface with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner and let it dry, then apply 2 coats of stain in a different per the label directions. Redwood Semi-Transparent Stain
Restored fences. All three sides done at different times. Oldest fence is on the left side. The back fence is the newest. Solid stain was recommended to hide all imperfections but I didn’t want the painted look. I chose one coat of semi-transparent. I’m happy with the results. I hardly ever write reviews. Thought I would share the outcome since review research is what helped me come to a decision. Used 3 cans of stain in this picture.
