Stay away! LED failures plus glass bulb detaches from base.
We bought six of these bulbs for two brand new light fixtures in May 2013. We replaced one thinking it was a manufacturing error. Ha! In three years, out of 7 bulbs, three had the LEDs fail, followed by two where the glass bulb became detached from the base. Cree stinks. Stay away from this product. Hold on to every piece of packaging and receipts if you ever want to return it.

    FAIL ,LESS THEN 6 MONTHS
I replaced all of my incandescents this past winter with LEDs , most are CREE bulbs. They have been in for six months or less. Today one of the 100 watt CREE bulbs in my basement died. This light is on less then one hour per day. I went to Home Depot to inquire about the Lifetime warranty and was told that I have to deal with the manufacturer. Well, for starters , the register slip is required . Who saves register slips for light bubs ? Then the bulb has to be sent to Cree for replacement. Well , of course I don't have the slip although I somehow do have the package probably because it wasn't in the socket very long. Of course , it would probably cost me more then the $3.97 that I paid for it to mail it so I might as well go buy another bulb from a different manufacturer.

20 years or 2 years? Bought 4, all dead or dying.
So disappointed on this product. Bought 4 two years ago. One failed last December, one did the same thing two weeks ago, and the rest two only have part of the led units working. All bulbs have debris inside. One got a loosed glue piece inside, and one got a big crack on the glass cover.

Very Dim After Six (6) Months
Purchased these bulbs to install into a new light fixture in our kitchen. Bulbs were bright at first and really brightened up the room. Now only after six months of use, they are so dim that you would think they were simulating candle light. I tend to read reviews with a grain of salt, but notice patterns for the reviewers. These bulbs were an impulse purchase, needed bulbs, high dollar LED's with a 10 year warranty, they had to be good "Right"? Boy did I make a $40 dollar mistake, (Purchased 2). Bulb manufactures depend on repeat business. I hope enough people read and review these bulbs to either force a change for the manufacture or put them out of business so that the manufactures who are concerned about the environment and their customers are left in business. The HD should stop selling these bulbs. I will not pursue the warranty after reading the reviews. Good luck on your purchase and I hope this review helps in your decisions.

        Goodbye CFL, Hello LED
It's DIMMABLE. It's rugged- you couldn't breathe on the old CFLs without tearing them up. It's COOL. My big motivation for moving away from incandescent has always been HEAT, yeah, saving money is great, but I've seen so many fixtures burned up from over wattage. I'm surprised there aren't more house fires. It's BEAUTIFUL- the light is warm and pleasant.

Great light, solid construction, price needs to come down
Solid construction, almost seems shatter resistant. Great light output, consistent and clear. Soft white version is comparable to most soft white CFLs - but the output is bright from the start. The price needs to drop before I buy a house full of these, but I am pleased with the purchase so far. Note that the base of these is larger then most bulbs, almost as wide as the bulb itself.

You Get What You Pay For
LED bulbs are more efficient than CFL bulbs with equivalent ratings; but have a higher initial cost. Cree is a well-known manufacturer of LEDs for tactical flashlights and has a good reputation for quality in that market. I expect the same level of quality from Cree for their line of replacement light bulbs for home applications. The second most important consideration for my purchase of LED bulbs, for hanging pendant lamps in my kitchen, was appearance. Cree's 100 Watt equivalent LED bulbs are far more attractive than the 100 Watt equivalent CFL bulbs that I'd initially purchased as replacements for incandescent bulbs.

        Super impressed!
Bought this as a porch light to see how far LED bulbs have come and to test the brightness, along with testing the theory that soft white doesn't really attract bugs. And I am impressed. The 100w is insanely bright. Brighter than the CFL bulb I had in there. I had tons of bugs flying around the CFL, and almost as soon as I switched to the LED, most of them dispersed. There are a couple tiny bugs flying near it still, but none of the big ones that were surrounding it before. My house currently has nearly all CFL bulbs, but will definitely be switching to these (in various wattages of course) as soon as they go out. The upfront cost is of course more than regular bulbs or even CFLs, but if they have the life span they claim to, I think it'll definitely pay off.

Purchased this bulb as a spare replacement for one of our 100W incandescents. When I went to put it into use the top or glass portion of the light bulb came off as I screwed it into the socket and I DID NOT use excessive force.

I bought 12 of these bulbs in January 2015. None of these bulbs are ever on for more than 4 hours a day. One failed in the first year and Cree replaced it. Two more have failed in the past month (about 34 months, less than 3 years) and I have not yet tried to get replacements. A 25% failure rate in less than three years is not acceptable.

The bulbs work great when new but die way too early, making them not nearly worth cost of purchase. I've bought about 10 of them at $20/bulb over the past 3 years and 4 of the first ones bought have failed. I use them outside under the eaves (covered) and not in enclosed fixtures. The LEDs within the bulb detach over time, probably due to the bulbs overheating even when properly used. I submitted a warranty request through Cree and gathered the 4 bulbs, Proof of Purchase from the packaging, and managed to find the receipt. Cree responded and said they were sending four new bulbs and it was not necessary to return the burnt out bulbs. Saves me some hassle and shipping costs. I appreciate their good customer service. It also seems like based on other reviews that this is a known issue. I'll keep looking for bulbs that can last as long as LEDs should. At least the price for these has dropped 60% from when I bought them.

Had this in our TV room for less than 2 years. Used for 1-3 hours per day max. and it died. It's under warranty, but Cree requires you to provide register receipt and proof of purchase...not something I thought I needed to do with lightbulbs. "Limited Warranty: If this bulb does not operate for 10 years (based on 6 hours per day / 7 days per week of normal consumer use) from date of purchase when used as directed, return the bulb with proof of purchase, register receipt and your name and address to Cree, Inc. (Consumer Warranty), 4600 Silicon Drive, Durham, NC 27703 USA. "

I bought 24 of these for my house from Home Depot. After the first couple week, a few died. Then, a couple of months later a few more died. I ended up taking them all back and Home Depot was nice enough to accept them. I really liked the globe like shape. It's a shame. Using a Phillips equivalent now with no problems.

I purchased three of these in Oct 2014. However, they began to slowly fail after two years of occasional use in an open ceiling fixture. The individual LED's appear to be failing one by one.

Junk, after approx. 1-1/2 year used in an open wall sconce in the bath room, the lamps started to flicker then one dead, one about to die. The flicker most likely is due to a cheap driver, (the electronics that run the LEDs). I will go back to compact fluorescent until the technology has matured for the home user.

Purchased this bulb in July 2016. Exterior build is very good. Light spectrum and lumens output of light was good. Bulb was used in a downward orientation within an open fixture above the dining room table, so it was kept on perhaps 4 hours a day. Bulb failed on December 21, 2016. Do not have packaging and receipt for return or replacement. Will not purchase again and would caution anyone to consider less expensive LED alternatives.

I like the high Color Rendering value of these bulbs, and the dimmable capability, but I've had all three of the 18w version I purchased fail in less than a year of occasional use. BTW, the lower wattage version seems to have a much better survival rate. I got one replaced at Home Depot, but the requirement to have packaging and receipt for warranty replacement is silly, as they have a 10 year warranty, and they've only been in production for a couple of years. Any honest company with this rate of failure of a product under this kind of warranty would replace any and all failed units, no questions asked. I purchased the Cree, as I'm impressed with their innovation and my previous experience with their discrete LED's, but their consumer relations leaves much to be desired.

I have to add my voice to the chorus of "Booo"s - the major selling point for LED is the alleged long life. I put this "100W equivalent" in my garage. I don't have that light on very often. At most 1-2 hours a week (because the light in my garage door opener suffices for all of the in and out usage). I installed it in July 2016, it quit working on Halloween. I have never had ANY lamp burn out that quickly. Certainly not one meant to last ten years.
