When applied as directed the product will meet or exceed its performance claims, however, as this is an acrylic-latex (water based) formulas even small variations in air temperature, surface temperature, relative humidity and dryness of the application area can have a significant impact on the product's performance development. At 18 hours, the product is designed to be "water ready", however, it has not yet reached full performance. Likewise, bond-breakers (typically silicone and silicone residue) will prevent proper adhesion, thereby allowing water to bypass the sealant, resulting in softening and potential leakage. For more demanding application and faster return to service times DAP offers AMP Advanced Kitchen and Bath Sealant, however, these formulas are typically more challenging to apply as they require solvent for clean-up. Because your post was essentially a critique of other review responses. and did not contain any details specific to your attempted application, it is difficult to offer a more specific response in this format. Based on your commentary, it would appear to indicate that you may be attempting to apply the sealant to an area where silicone and/or its residue may be present. As is the case for this and all similar non-silicone-based formulas, it is not recommended for applications where silicone residue may be present. Because silicone and its residue are classified as a "bond breaker" (a surface that is too slick to permit proper bond formation), proper adhesion/performance would not be expected. Normal cleaning and surface preparation methods are not likely adequate to address this condition. The Microban that you reference is the brand name of mildewcide that was previously used in the sealant. We currently use a different brand by the name of MoldGuard in the DAP Kwik Seal Plus.
