Programming is overly complicated. The Dawn/Dusk feature complicates the setup and is overkill. All a timer needs is a time to turn on the load and a time to turn off the load. The flange on the unit makes installing in 2 gang or 3 gang boxes difficult.

What good is it without some form of battery backup? A complete waste of money.

First I struggled with a similar but cheaper timer from another box store. The installation and instructions were awful. Very difficult to reach customer service and at the end they were not helpful. Had to return it.
I am very pleased with this timer from homedepot. Works as advertised. Easy to install. Very good instructions. First we installed the timer as per instructions and it did not work. Then we followed the very last instruction which says " if the timer display does not turn on, disconnect power and swap black and blue wires on the timer" bingo! that worked.
Programming is very easy. I have been playing with programming ever since I installed it and observe the function! I like the "random" feature.
There are two product improvements I would suggest:
1. lighted buttons
2. I think the clock runs slow (a few seconds per day). Use more accurate clock in the hardware

The timer is great, however after only about 2 weeks of use it stopped functioning properly, it would no longer turn the lights on or off on AUTO. Replaced with a different brand as quality is dubious with this one.

These are great. I've used them in a few applications for dusk 'till dawn timers for outdoor lights where a photo optic sensor isn't an option. They are a tad tricky to program and the little door that also serves as an on/off button is a bit on the fragile side. Other than that I've always npbeen pleased with the product.

Easy for my husband to assemble. Love how you can program it for different times for each day and that it changes automatically for daylight savings time. Wish we had put it in years ago!

The programing is complex. Instructions for programing are tedious and not as complete as I would like.
If you experience an AC power outage, the time will need to be reset. Difficult to figure out how to do it.
It needs a back-up battery that will maintain the settings, including the time, date, etc.

Easy install... easy program
Great timer. Installed within 30 mins and programmed in about 10 mins for the whole week. The install instructions are spot on if you have basic electrical knowledge. The buttons on the device are very small but manageable. Display screen is bright and large enough to read. Great product thus far. Installed and working for about a week or so.

Controls Porch Lights
I replaced a similar switch that stopped working after about 6 years. This switch requires a ground wire, which the other did not. The backlight feature on this switch is better than the old one, making it easier to read. Programing it is a little tricky mainly because the buttons are so tiny, but once it is setup, it works just fine.

Energy and Effort Save
This switch was easy to install. Directions included were easy to follow, especially after the Home Depot Electrical Dept. gentlemen walked me through them and I took notes. Programming in straight forward if you follow the directions enclosed with the switch. I didn't even have to kill the power to do the install.

Difficult to program and requires neutral wire.
I just installed it and got it programmed with some difficulty. It seems to work OK with my LED bulbs but it is not the quality of the Leviton switch which failed after about 6 years. This one requires a neutral wire so watch out for that. I needed one right away and Home Depot did not have a Leviton switch.

Good Product, Confusing Instructions
Easy to install and was pleased to see an extra faceplate included (lite almond color). Buttons on timer are hard to read (extremely small) and instructions for programming could be vastly improved. Overall, the timer looks good and works well.

Exactly what I needed!
I love this timer switch. I needed a timer that would run from dusk to dawn, adjusting automatically for the changing seasons and length of daylight. And, it fits in a normal switch electrical box. Perfect!

Not reliable
The little tab on the button cover broke off. If there is a power loss it s memory is gone forever and has to be reprogramed every time. No battery back-up. Very disappointing. . Buy Intermatic instead.

Burn out quickly
I have three of these timers and all have burned out in less than 12 months with a load of less than 100 watts. They are simple to install and somewhat complicated to program but no worse than others on the market. I would look elsewhere, spend a few more dollars for a better unit.

Overall a good purchase
When working, this is an indispensable timer. I have my front porch lights on it. The really neat thing about it is the auto-adjustment with DST. I actually bought this as a replacement to the last one, which froze up after a year. I'm hoping the last one was a fluke as I really like this timer. Just be prepared for spending some time programing it.

Works Good
I bought this timer to control an outside light. It was a little bit of a challenge to program but once that was done, no problems. It is adjusting the sunset and sunrise on-off time by itself according to a latitude range setting. You can program that feature or just set it for specific times. So far, so good. It is what I was looking for.

close the door and it resets to manual??
Confusing to program. Then when all set, I close the door and one of the bumps on the inside of the door touches the "MAN" switch and returns it to manual operation. In my case, this turned the light off. I reset everything and if I leave the door open, the unit seems to work OK. ???

Difficult to Program & Burnedout in less than 6-mos
Easy to install with supplied instructions.
Then........Tried to program the fountain to go on at 8 AM and off at 10 PM. Difficult to program a simple program. It wanted to vary times at different times of the year, which I did not want. Never did figure out if I had my desired program set. Buttons are microscopic without labels.
Then.....After about 6-months the unit burned out - would not turn on pump (only 65 watts power) by the timer or with the manual controls.
Waste of time to install it and then to remove it.

Has no Backup Battery to Hold Settings
Programming is easy. HOWEVER, every time power is interrupted all settings will have to be reloaded. So, keep your programming instructions nearby. I would pay extra to have a backup battery feature.

Can't handle thunderstorms
A thunderstorm cam through a few nights ago. Power dropped out a few times. By morning three of the four units were toast. By toast, I mean I can't even manually turn on the lights.
I've had these about 6 months total. I've had to reprogram two of them prior to this last storm. Programming is not straight forward. It's easy to inadvertently set up an extra program and mess up the light sequence.
I would not recommend these units
