My favorite spray lacquer. Tried using a few less expensive brands but found they took a long time to dry and did not give as good a finish as Deft. The deft sprayer is also much better. Your trigger finger doesn’t get tired and you get great accuracy. Top notch

Best spraycan lacquer I've used. For most of the past 5 years this has been my go-to lacquer finish because of its even spray. The ability to change the spray direction on the nozzle is a plus.

Clearcoat did not produce any gloss on the stained wood surface. When first applied, it appeared to be a hazy milky color but eventually dried clear. But it actually reduced the gloss of the black stain and made it more of a flat black color.

The reason it’s not getting five stars. For the price it’s a good product but to get something better you will need to spend almost 10 $ a can

Deft Clear Wood Finish provides optimal finish in a very short amount of time. Three or Four coats about 30 minutes apart and you're done. No sanding between coats. You have to watch for runs, but that is true with every product.

It may be that I should have put more layers on it. I sprayed it on a wood desk that was mass produced in Mexico. I had to seal it so the smell of the stain on the desk didn't bother me. I will add a couple of layers of spray in the future. It did cover most of the smell after 2 quick coats and the desk became much smoother than it began so overall, I am satisfied with the product.

Great Finnish
Great stuff however, in order to get that pro finish, you need about 8 to 9 cotes of the spray. For mirror finishing, 9 to 11 cotes, wet sand with 1800 or 2000 grit sandpaper, a good furniture compound, buffer pad, high speed drill. With a little work you have that Piano mirror Finnish!

    good lacquer
This was the first time I used this particular lacquer, and I am very impressed. I used it for a high gloss finish on a humidor. I build custom guitars and usually get Mcfadden Nitro(Seawards, is what I think it is called now). I treated it as if it was an instrument and had terrific results. Just watch out not to spray to heavy of a coat, it sprays VERY thin, other than that no complaints.

    Quality Product
The aerosol can version of this product is good once you get the hang of it. I'm using it for electric guitar finishes. I am finding the brushing version of this nitro is great too, goes on thick. That's my only complaint about the aerosol, it goes on pretty thin. The spray nozzle is good, keep the can as upright as possible and it will spray on a fine consistent mist. Keep the coats light and they dry in ~10 minutes so you can put 15 coats on in a few hours. You'll need a polishing/buffing routine of some kind as well to get the super glossy finish. I use micro mesh from 1500 grit to 12,000 grit. Key instructions to follow about cleaning the nozzle after every application by turning the can upside down and spraying until clear. If you don't do this you'll get the blobs. Shake the spray can real well, don't shake the brushing version at all, just stirred. Otherwise it goes on pretty well, it's hard not to get some orange peel here and there but it sands out easy enough. And you can really use all of the can, it doesn't run out of air before lacquer. There are pros and cons for both the spray and brushing version so I would try both and see what works best for your project.

    Best DIY Lacquer
I've used Deft lacquer for almost 50 years and have not found a better lacquer for the DIY shop. I have finishes in my home that are 45 years old and look as good as the day they were finished. I've used the brush on and the aerosol spray. Both with superb results.

    good stuff
go to lacquer. believe it or not, alot of luthiers and instrument makers use this stuff. the only problem is you not getting a good deal compared to more expensive brands, they thin it out alot, and has alot of overspray. it sprays on real thin and even, great for getting a super flat finish with effortless sanding in between coats. if you think you need one can, you'll actually need 2 - its really thin.

real nitro; works just fine as it should
I'm refinishing a piano, of all things. For the body, I'm using a spray gun and buying lacquer by the gallon. But for other things, this is perfect. Harder to reach nooks and crannies. Small parts-- like the dampers. Repairs. It sticks to brass and steel OK, too. The gloss is a nitrocellulose, too-- time tested and classic, and importantly, the original chemistry used on millions of pianos and guitars since the 1930s! So good for many instrument repairs (but always check first). The semi-gloss and satin do NOT say that they're nitro lacquers, so be careful. That's why I'm buying the gloss. If I want satin, a bit of rouge and a rag will do nicely to turn gloss to satin. Not all lacquers are the same chemistry at all.

      Deft Lacquer Not Good
I got a quart of deft lacquer and it has been a disaster. I finally sanded it all off and will go and get a diffrerent lacquer. The Deft did not ever dry evenly or smoothly at any strenght .. not just brush strokes but blotchy and uneven .. that meant .. put it on, sand it off, put it on sand it off .. maybe five or six times and I finally had to realize it is NEVER going to go on right and the surface will never be something DEFT likes. No amount of sanding or cleanign or priming or finishing .. or diluting will ever make Deft a workable lacquer. I have previously used Rustoleum so that may be what I will go and buy now. This Deft is three weeks and a lot of sanding and false starts. I will never use it again.

        The best Finish for HardWood!
I learned about this product back in 1977 when I was in 7th grade wood shop. We use to brush it on and sand with 400 between coats. Since then I have tried other products that cost less but they did not give me the same results. Varthane for instance is a bit less costly but it takes several days to dry and smells like Varnish since it has Varnish in it. Deft is Laquer based so it dries to the touch in about 5 minutes and can be sanded between coats in about 30 minutes making me able to finish a product the same day. They came out with the Spray cans back in the 80's and Wow! does that make it easy to get a perfect finish. I usually spray 3 coats of the Satin or Semi Gloss and sand with 400 between coats. The final coat I don't sand, just take some 0000 steel wool and some liquid bees wax and I have a professional finished product. Laquer finishes are great for indoor wood products, for outside I usually use Duraseal polyurethane or a water based Deft. Water base Deft is much like a clear Latex paint, you won't get the same shine as the Laquer but it holds up to the elements well.
